Rorikstead is a small farming town in western Whiterun Hold.
The town is named after the noble Rorik, who owns a local "manor". Despite its living namesake, Rorikstead is mentioned in two much older accounts: The Merethic or First Era text Holdings of Jarl Gjalund (as "Rorik's Steading") and the Second Era text Atlas of Dragons. It is also mentioned in the bard's song Ragnar the Red as "ole Rorikstead", which may indicate the current town is named after an ancient predecessor. The town contains several crop fields, and the residents claim not to have had a bad harvest in years.

Other Quests[edit]
- After the quest Dragon Rising, you are likely to encounter a dragon attacking Rorikstead. Fittingly, guards in Whiterun will mention how Rorikstead is usually a calm place but is vulnerable to a dragon attack. Throughout most of the game, this encounter is likely to be with a random unnamed dragon; however, the named dragon Nahagliiv is buried in a dragon mound not far west of the town and will be resurrected by Alduin during the quest Alduin's Wall.[verification needed — Do the game mechanics have a special heightened ratio of dragon attacks for Rorikstead?]
- Atop the hill north of the town is a shrine of Akatosh featuring a dragon scale and a copy of the book Kolb & the Dragon. This is the only place where you can obtain a dragon scale prior to completing the quest Dragon Rising.
- Lokir, one of the NPCs in the carriage during the quest Unbound, states he is from Rorikstead, but he has no residence and is not mentioned by anyone in town.
