Votus Titonian, guardian of a haunted tower

Votus Titonian is an Imperial guard and Trooper of the Imperial Legion tasked with watching the entrance to the reputedly haunted Stendarr Tower, in Old Ebonheart's castle. Speaking to him begins the quest, Stendarr Tower Haunting.

For protection, he wears an Imperial chain cuirass, an Imperial chain coif, a set of Imperial steel greaves, a pair of Imperial steel boots, a pair of Imperial steel gauntlets, and a pair of Imperial chain pauldrons. For clothing, he wears an Imperial belt. He wields an Imperial broadsword, and carries a torch and an Old Ebonheart ash statue.

Aside from his natural charm and ability to absorb fatigue from others, he knows no spells.

Dialogue[edit]

(During the quest 'The Prince of Rats'):
"A Dunmer and a Khajiit, eh? Sorry, haven't seen them. Have you checked in town? Maybe one of the Khajiit saw something."

Stendarr Tower Haunting[edit]

  • Greetings:
"Hold up, %PCRace. It's not advisable to enter Stendarr's Tower. The haunting has gotten worse."
(If you are a member of the Imperial Legion):
"Hold up, %PCRank. It's not advisable to enter Stendarr's Tower. The haunting has gotten worse."
"How's your progress on dealing with the ghost? We're counting on you to make Stendarr's Tower usable again."
"Greetings, %PCName. Stendarr's Tower is finally usable again. The vengeful spirit seems to have been successfully driven away."
  • dark idols:
"You say the ghost is angry about some sort of dark idols? Curious -- I wonder if it means the Dark Elf statues being sold down by the docks. I bought one myself."
  • Who sold it to you? And may I have yours? The ghost asked me to collect them and bring them to him.:
"I bought this statue from Cirtiel, a Bosmer with a stall near the docks. And certainly. If the ghost is angry about these little trinkets, and giving him mine will make him leave, I'm all for it." (You receive an Old Ebonheart Ash Statue)
  • You bought one? You're already corrupted by it, Votus!:
"Now that you mention it, I have been having some odd dreams lately. You think this weird Dark Elf statue has something to do with it?"
  • Hand it over to me, and I'll take it from here. And who sold the statue to you?: (See choice above)
  • It's too late, Votus. The corruption has spread too far. The ghost asked me to kill all who possess the statues. Time to die!:
"What? You're mad! You'll be dead before you hit the ground!" Goodbye (Disposition -25, and he attacks you)
(If you are a member of the Imperial Legion):
"You're a traitor, %PCRank! And traitors must die!" (Disposition -25, Imperial Legion Reputation -20, you are expelled from the Imperial Legion, and he attacks you)
"Keep your hands where I can see them, %PCName. Now, have you come to your senses, or shall we have a repeat of last time?"
  • Forgive me for acting so rashly last time. If you'll give me the statue, I'll see about satisfying the ghost.: (See 'I bought this statue from Cirtiel' response above)
  • Give me the statue, Votus, or I'll take it by force!:
"Do not threaten me, %PCName, or shall I beat some manners into your thick skull." Goodbye (Disposition -20, and he attacks you)
(If you are a member of the Imperial Legion):
"Your life is forfeit, %PCRank!" Goodbye (Disposition -20, and he attacks you)
"Have you found out more about those odd Dark Elf trinkets? The ghost is still haunting the Tower."
"Still chasing down those statues? You're going to an awful lot of trouble for very little reward. Have you not found any other way to banish the ghost?"
  • Maybe there's another way to deal with the ghost.:
"Sounds like a good idea to me. The statues are creepy, but they're not harmful."
  • I've convinced Cirtiel to stop selling the ash statues, but her supplier has refused to stop supplying them. Could the Empire have the sale of these statues outlawed?:
"Sorry, but that's asking for too much over some statues, especially from someone who isn't in the Legion. I agree that they're odd, perhaps even unsettling, but they're not serious enough to involve official intervention. Perhaps you can try another approach with the ghost."
(If you are a member of the Imperial Legion):
"You're making a pretty big request for a %PCRank. I agree that they're odd, perhaps even unsettling, but they're not serious enough for the Empire to take direct action. Perhaps you can try another approach with the ghost."
(If Disposition ≥ 70):
"Look, you're a decent sort, %PCName, but no, I don't think I can help you with this. Could you perhaps try another approach with the ghost?"
(If Disposition ≥ 70 and you are a member of the Imperial Legion):
"Look, you're a fine example of a %PCRank, %PCName, but no, I don't think I can help you with this. Perhaps if you had some more clout in the Legion, maybe after a few more promotions. For now, I suggest you try another approach with the ghost."
(If Disposition ≥ 70 and you are at least an Agent of the Imperial Legion):
"You're certainly persistent, %PCName, I'll give you that. Okay, since you're a %PCRank, I'll consider what we can do about stopping the shipping of these Dunmer statues."
(If Disposition ≥ 90):
"You're certainly persistent, %PCName, I'll give you that. Okay, with our friendship in mind, I'll consider what we can do about stopping the shipping of these Dunmer statues."
(If you have completed the vanilla quest 'Corprus Cure' OR have completed the vanilla House Redoran quest 'Clear Varvur Sarethi's Name'):
"Since I assume you know what you're talking about, having dealt with such statues before, I'll consider what we can do about stopping the shipping of these Dunmer statues."
"About those ash statues, %PCRank. I'm going to request that the ash statues be declared an illegal trade good within Imperial jurisdiction. Also, I'm going to request more Imperial patrols in the area to enforce trade regulations." (House Indoril Reputation +2)
"Keep me posted on any new developments regarding the statues, %PCRank. The Hlaalu don't seem to be pleased with the extra patrols, but the Indoril seem satisfied that we've made efforts to stop the trade of those statues."
  • Stendarr's Tower:
"Like I said, it's haunted. Been that way for centuries, if old stories are anything to go by. But recently it got much worse, so we had to evacuate the tower for the time being."
  • Still, can I enter the tower?:
"I won't stop you. I've told you what's in there. Enter at your own risk."
  • Haunted by what?:
"We call it the Fiery Horror. Some say it's the vengeful spirit of some ancient Dark Elven nobleman, angry at us Imperials for building our city here, trying to burn the whole place to the ground. I don't know what to make of that. All I know it's the most terrifying thing I've ever seen -- the night that we abandoned the tower it appeared in the middle of the bunkroom and set every single bed on fire. We were lucky to get out alive."
  • Could I enter the tower?: (See 'I won't stop you' response above)
  • Has anyone tried to get rid of the ghost?:
(Before completing 'The Sorceror's Apprentices'):
"We found out pretty quickly that you can't kill the ghost with swords. It just disappears and comes back. Like it's tied to the place, somehow. The Court Wizard could probably deal with it, but now he's gone missing, and other mages haven't had much luck in deciphering the former Court Wizard's notes." (See other choices below)
  • The Court Wizard has gone missing?:
"Yes. No one's seen Tarhiel for some time now. Off doing his bizarre experiments, no doubt."
  • I'm sorry. He's dead.:
"Tarhiel is dead? Too bad. You should inform his successor in Julianos' Tower if you haven't done so already."
  • I'm sure he'll turn up eventually.:
"Yeah, well, we'll see. I wouldn't be surprised if he's blown himself up."
"Yeah, probably. Wizards are a strange lot."
(If Kelkemmello is the new Court Wizard):
"We found out pretty quickly that you can't kill the ghost with swords. It just disappears and comes back. Like it's tied to the place, somehow. The late Court Wizard could probably deal with it, but his replacement, Kelkemmello has become unapproachable due to his fruitless attempts to deciphering the former Court Wizard's notes." (See choices below)
(If Saturius is the new Court Wizard):
"We found out pretty quickly that you can't kill the ghost with swords. It just disappears and comes back. Like it's tied to the place, somehow. The late Court Wizard could probably deal with it, but his replacement, Saturius, is still looking for books to read up on." (See choices below)
(If Tarhiel has returned to Ebon Tower):
"We found out pretty quickly that you can't kill the ghost with swords. It just disappears and comes back. Like it's tied to the place, somehow. The Court Wizard could probably exorcise the tower, but he's been dealing with a lot lately."
  • Tough luck. Goodbye.:
"Be seeing you."
(If you are a member of the Imperial Legion):
"Be seeing you, %PCRank."
  • Maybe I could help.:
"You're certainly welcome to try, but don't say I didn't warn you."
(If you are a member of the Imperial Legion):
"You're certainly welcome to try, %PCRank, but don't say I didn't warn you."
"The good news is the haunting hasn't gotten any worse. The bad news is that the ghost is still trying to burn the Tower to the ground."
"The ghost that was haunting Stendarr's Tower seems to have departed. We can use the tower again thanks to you."
  • vengeful spirit:
"That specter has made the entire tower unusable. And it's not just the tower, either. Sometimes the portcullis goes up or down randomly, or the gates open and close."
  • Any suggestions on who I could talk to?:
"Good question. Perhaps you could try Helice Rastin, since she's with the Imperial Cult. Or maybe Memistrean Fellux? You can find Rastin in Arkay's Tower, and Fellux in Akatosh's Tower. Or perhaps someone at the Mages Guild in town will know how to exorcise a ghost."
  • Continue:
"I wish you luck. No matter what anyone tries with that spirit, it keeps coming back. If you can exorcise it, you'll be doing the castle a great service."
"As I said, we can't use Stendarr's Tower because of that ghost. And it's not just the tower, either. Sometimes the portcullis goes up or down randomly, or the gates open and close." (See choices above)
  • On second thought, I've changed my mind.:
"What's the matter? You're not afraid of the ghost, are you? If you are, that makes two of us. Well, if you find your courage, come back and talk to me. That specter isn't going anywhere."
(If you gave The Fiery Horror the ash statues and banned their sale in the city):
"The ghost has been banished. Well done, %PCName! Here, take these potions of fire resistance. We don't need them anymore." (Imperial Legion Reputation +2, you receive 2 Quality Fire Resistance potions, and the Ebonheart Bellman article 'STENDARR'S TOWER GHOST NO MORE' is added to the newspaper spawner)
(If you gave The Fiery Horror the ash statues, banned their sale in the city, and are a member of the Imperial Legion):
"The ghost has been banished. Nicely done, %PCRank! Here, I requisitioned these potions of fire resistance, but with the specter gone, we don't need them anymore. You can have them." (Imperial Legion Reputation +2, you receive 2 Quality Fire Resistance potions, and the Ebonheart Bellman article 'STENDARR'S TOWER GHOST NO MORE' is added to the newspaper spawner)
(If Caros Cocceius or Quercus Duro are dead):
"The specter has been banished, but I've heard some strange tales about what happened. How did you drive it out?"
  • Oh, it was easy. All I needed to do was kill some Imperials -- uh, I mean . . .:
"You did what? You monster! You will pay for your murders, %PCName!" Goodbye (Disposition -20, and he attacks you)
  • After I gathered the Dunmer statues that were troubling it, it seemed satisfied and left, but it hinted that it might return.:
"Well, as long as the ghost is satisfied, I am, too, although I hope it doesn't trouble us again. I guess we don't need these potions of fire resistance anymore. Here, you can have them." (Imperial Legion Reputation +2, you receive 2 Quality Fire Resistance potions, and the Ebonheart Bellman article 'STENDARR'S TOWER GHOST NO MORE' is added to the newspaper spawner)
(If you soul trapped The Fiery Horror):
"Yes, thanks for exorcising the ghost! Here, this weapon wasn't useful in driving off the ghost, but perhaps it might come in handy for other hauntings." (Imperial Legion Reputation +4, you receive a Silver Longsword of Protection, and the Ebonheart Bellman article 'STENDARR'S TOWER GHOST NO MORE' is added to the newspaper spawner)
"Again, thanks for clearing out the ghost that was haunting Stendarr Tower. Now we'll actually be able to use the tower again."
