Felmaru Llendu is a Dark Elf Warrior and the acting lord of the Waters March during Garisa Llethri's absence. She bears the formal title 'Commander of the Horns', and governs from the Redoran Council Hall in Ald Iuval. Her elder sister is a dreugh expert named Ivrosa Llendu, and her husband is Olmu Llendu.
Felmaru is warier of House Hlaalu than her more assertive underling, Delis Llethri, and she is not shy of critiquing Delis' actions when the latter sends Redoran troops to Ibbi-Suen Mine for concern over that house might react. During Eviction Notice, she is similarly careful to ensure that an influx of squatters into Ald Iuval will not be used by the Hlaalu for further land grabs. She has even made a deal with the Ja-Natta Syndicate, exchanging a promise of a blind eye for the syndicate's supplies and protection - as shown in Right of Passage.
For all of this, Felmaru proves quite capable of needling the Hlaalu where she judges she can get away with it. She turns a blind eye to pirate activity on Hlaalu ships during Supplies for Sanvyr Deroth, orders the confiscation of a ship belonging to Hlaalu noble, Dalvus Raran, during Unrest in the House and then readily accepts that Hlaalu's demand for a duel in the Narsis arena during Hope Rides Alone - although Dalvus has her slipped a non-lethal poison before that duel can go ahead.
One of Felmaru's other focuses appears to be the events that led to the collapse of the Waters March in the face of Hlaalu expansionism, although after the The Will of One, she has to conclude that it was not solely the Hlaalu to blame for those events. She bears particular animosity towards the former ruler of Hlerynhul, Bolnor Selvilo, who sold the formerly Redoran town out to Ivul Hleryn. She'll send you to duel Bolnor during Due Vendetta, and again in Funeral for a Son. Indeed, her history with Bolnor goes back to the Arnesian War, where the two fought together, and where Bolnor even saved her life. This war perhaps has affected her later outlook on confronting the Hlaalu - she remembers an incident where she ran away from what turned out to be a weaker force, resulting in the loss of many lives. The event had a great effect on her, and as she puts it:
"The point of the story was that my cowardice cost myself, and others, dearly that day. I shouldn't have tried to run away to save my sorry hide. I was supposed to hold my ground and defend the village. Maybe I would have failed anyhow -- who's to say? But even if I had, I would've died proud, knowing I kept my honor. Not having to live with my shame."
