Quick Walkthrough

1. Talk to Solvus Orrich in Goldstone's Great Hall about duties and Shore-King.
2. Go to The Anchor's Rest in Little Arenthia and confront Notius Alvich.
3. Persuade Notius to halt his rumormonging by either:
   • Asking with 90+ disposition.
   • Paying him 500 gold.
   • Threatening him, and then fighting him into a surrender.
4. Relay Notius' information to Solvus Orrich.

Detailed Walkthrough

Somebody is spreading rumors of the imminent return of the Shore-King - a mythical past ruler of Anvil prophesized to return in the kingdom's moment of need. Solvus Orrich wants you to find the source of these destabilizing rumors and put a stop to them. He names The Anchor's Rest in Little Arenthia as the suspected source. Asking around this tavern about the Shore-King will see you pointed to Notius Alvich in the corner. Talk to this man. You'll eventually need to tell him to put a stop to his rumormonging. With 90+ disposition, he will comply immediately. Otherwise he'll demand 500 gold. You can pay this, or else threaten him - he'll then attack. If he attacks, fight back until he surrenders and volunteers the information you need.

Regardless of how you get Notius to talk, he'll confirm that he was paid to spread rumors by one Polonius Victrix (likely the mysterious 'PV' who was referenced in Ashes of the Missing). Report this to Solvus Orrich. He recognizes Polonius' name, and his position as the steward of Herrius Thimistrel - casting suspicion on this notable individual. He'll reward you with the Gauntlet of Arcane Archery for your work.

10		Solvus Orrich is worried about a recent uptick in rumors relating to the Shore-King, the mythical heir to one of the Strident Coast's First Empire-era rulers. The rumors allege that the Shore-King will soon return to take his rightful place on Anvil's throne. Solvus has heard that these rumors are originating from the Anchor's Rest in Little Arenthia and would like me to stop them at the source.
20		I confronted Notius Alvich, the one responsible for the Shore-King rumors. He offered to stop spreading them and tell me who sent him if I paid him 500 drakes.
30		Notius Alvich agreed to stop spreading rumors about the Shore-King. He revealed that he'd been put up to the task by a man named Polonius Victrus.
40		I was told that Notius Alvich had been talking about the Shore-King before his death.
100	Finishes quest	Solvus Orrich thanked me for dealing with Notius Alvich. He revealed that Polonius Victrus is the steward of Herrius Thimistrel, majority shareholder of the Abecean Trading Company.
101	Finishes quest	Solvus Orrich was highly distressed to hear of Notius Alvich's death.
