Quest-Related Events[edit]

The Garland Ring[edit]

You can start this quest from the Crown Store where you will receive a Auridon Target Brief which will mention a tattooed High Elf that is to be trapped as a means of delaying them. You can look for them along the roads north of Vulkhel Guard, alternatively you can come across Tanlorin along the road and start the quest that way.

Either way this happens, you will come across a High Elf that is trapped from the waist down in solid ice:

Tanlorin: "Hey! Help a High Elf out?"
Tanlorin: "My toes have gone numb and I can't feel my knees!"

Speak with them to find out what is going on:

"Look at you. An eye-catching adventurer with an ambiguous smile.
I could really use your help. I was on my way to meet some dear friends when I got caught in this trap."
Does this sort of thing happen to you often?
"Oh this? Just an average day for me. But say … if you help me out of this ice, I'll tell you all about it.
I'll happily pass some coin your way, too. For the inconvenience. Please?"
All right, I'll try and break the ice.

After you break Tanlorin out of the ice, they will thank you:

Tanlorin: "You're the best. Seriously. I was worried I'd be stuck in there until the warm season."

You speak with Tanlorin and they will introduce themselves properly:

"I may never feel warm again! But where are my manners? Nice to meet you! Name's Tanlorin. And that ice trap was definitely not on my schedule today.
Now, I suppose I owe you an explanation. Have you ever heard of a group called the Garland Ring?"
No. The Garland Ring?
"We try to keep a low profile. We're a group of High Elves trying to make Summerset society just a tiny bit better for us little people.
Thanks to that trap, I'm running late and could use some more assistance. Did I mention we're well funded?"
I'm listening.
"I think some rivals hoped to delay me from reaching my friends. I was supposed to meet with two Garland Ring members at Monkey's Rest. Now I'm worried they might be in danger.
Would you come with me? I could use the help and you seem very capable."
All right. I'll accompany you to Monkey's Rest.
"I knew I could count on you the moment you wandered by. You've got that twinkle in your eye.
My friends, Wisteria and Oleander, should have set up camp at Monkey's Rest. Let's go and make sure they're all right. I'll meet you there!"

At this point you can try asking Tanlorin some questions before you leave:

Can I ask you a few questions before we go?
"Anything for my rescuer. Ask away, friend. I'm as easy to crack as that ice!"
Tell me more about the Garland Ring.
"If I tell you about the Ring, I'd have to stick a dagger in your gut. I'm joking! Mostly.
How do I put this? The High Elf colleges make decisions that effect the people of Tamriel. And some in those colleges use their positions to turn a profit."
All right. And the Garland Ring …?
"Our goal is to apply pressure to those well-placed individuals. Sometimes these … what to call them? These wartime profiteers?
They often have secrets. Adulterous affairs, fraudulent treasuries, gambling debts. That sort of thing."
So how did you end up in the ice trap?
"Ha! Not everyone considers our work to be for the greater good.
But if I let a few frozen toes stop me from doing what I love, I'd never have met a stunning adventurer such as yourself."
Can you tell me more about yourself?
"I'm no one special. Just a lover of heists, princesses, and social politics. Which is exactly why I'm part of the Garland Ring!
I adore the work! Even if it involves the occasional trap, daring escape, or the sharp end of a battle axe."
Sounds like you enjoy this line of work?
"It's not without its benefits. You'd be surprised the doors a beautiful lily can open.
Ballrooms, estates, even the odd castle. I'm not one to kiss and tell, but after we've found my friends I'll happily recount some kissing I've been involved in."
You've kissed people at a castle?
"Oh sure! Royalty isn't that different from us, you know. Regular people. Just with diamonds, servants, and palatial estates.
Take the daughter of Whiterun's Jarl. Loves sunflowers, but pale as snow. Nearly lost her in a blizzard! But I digress."
Let's make our way to Monkey's Rest. (Appears when you ask one of the above questions and progresses the quest.)
"When we get to Monkey's Rest, don't tell Wisteria you found me frozen in ice. She still hasn't let me live down that time I got stuck in a window on the third floor of Cey-Tarn Keep.
You'll love her though. Like a viper with killer eyelashes."

Tanlorin will meet with you as you arrive at Monkey's Rest, but quickly becomes concerned when no one is there:

Tanlorin: "Wisteria can be a bit cold, so let me …. Wait. They're not here? Let's look around."

Speaking with them during your search:

"I was hoping that ice trap at Vulkhel Guard would be the worst of it. Just something to delay me, but now ….
Let's look around. Maybe Wisteria and Oleander left us a clue."

Tanlorin will comment as you find items around the ruins:

Finding the Scarf:

Tanlorin: "That scarf. I gave it to Wisteria."

Finding the Crystal Charm:

Tanlorin: "That charm belongs to Oleander. He says it brings him luck. He'd never just leave it behind."

Finding the Scrap of Paper:

Tanlorin: "That note's barely legible. Looks like the monkeys got at it."

Once you have found everything you talk to Tanlorin and hand over the letter:

"This note you found mentions the ice trap, and Wisteria and Oleander aren't here. Something is definitely wrong.
Members of the Ring are always ready for trouble, but …. What if our rivals got the better of them?"
Who are these rivals you mentioned? Do you know who did this?
"Sort of. I have my suspicions. I need to check in with my mentor, Hyacinth. He might have a suggestion about what to do here.
I even have a fancy way to contact him. You'll love this."
You have a way to contact Hyacinth?

At this, Tanlorin will walk over to a clear space and takes out a glowing sack:

Tanlorin: "Hyacinth is an accomplished mage, loves poking around in old ruins. This little bit of spellcraft is his work."
<Tanlorin places the sack on the ground and opens it. A blurred blue image of an elf appears and turns around.>
Hyacinth: "Bogcup? I can't see you. Did you crack the magicka lattice sitting on it again?"
Tanlorin: "I didn't … Hah. I've never done that. The ice trap must have messed with the spell. You talk to him while I try to fix it."

While Tanlorin fiddles with the item, you can talk to Hyacinth, who believes you are Tanlorin. He will mention that Oleander and Wisteria were heading to Toothmaul Gully to investigate a hidden base, and assumes you (Tanlorin) did not read the brief. As he realises the case of mistaken identity, the conversation will end:

Hyacinth: "Wait, what? Who is this?"
<His image flickers out.>
Tanlorin: "Toothmaul Gully? That wasn't …. Never mind."

Speak with Tanlorin about what you learnt, they will be confused why her companions were going to Toothmaul Gully:

"Why would they go to Toothmaul Gully without me? And leave behind their scarf and charm?
Remember I said we like to cause trouble for ne're-do-wells high up in Summerset society? There's this group we've been tracking. We think they're dangerous."
You think this group captured your friends?
"Attractive and smart! I'm so glad you stopped to help me!
Even if they've been captured, they probably were taken to Toothmaul Gully. Now, that place is huge. But I have a little something that will help us locate them. We call it a tracker fly."
What's a tracker fly?
"It's a magical construct, another Hyacinth invention. It will focus in on Wisteria if we apply a special concoction—resonating fluid.
Each Ring member uses a unique formula. I happen to know Wisteria's is made with river lilies and silver dust."
River lilies and silver dust. I could get those for you.
"Amazing! Let's see … river lilies should be easy enough to find along the stream near Phaer.
Oh, and ask my friend Chirrabi in Mathiisen to sell you the silver dust. Tell her "buttercups aren't weeds" and she'll know you're with me."
Where should I find you after I get the supplies?
"There's a big rock just west of Skywatch, near the road. I'll set up a little alchemy station there. We can use it to combine the lilies and silver dust, whip up some resonating fluid, and find my friends!
Hey! I can feel my toes again!"

At this point, you can take the opportunity to ask several questions:

Before I head out, I'd like to clarify a few things.
"Ugh! Sorry. Happy to answer any questions, but I just saw a monkey eat the most horrid-looking bug. There's just … there's so much goo!
Please, go ahead. You have my undivided attention now. What would you like to know?"
Hyacinth. Wisteria. Oleander. Those are all the names of flowers, right?
"Good ear! Garland Ring members listen in at lavish parties, help the less fortunate, and sometimes get into a lot of trouble. The flower names are supposed to keep our private lives private."
What kind of flower is Tanlorin?
"Tanlorin's not a flower. It's my real name. I … I don't like the codename they gave me. I mean, would you want people to call you Bogcup? I don't think so.
I just hope that group we've been worried about isn't involved in all this."
Who's this group you're worried about?
"We've been keeping an eye on some very bad people for a long time now. When we realized a number of them belonged to the same secret group, we knew we were on to something.
I shouldn't say too much. But if this is their doing, we're in trouble."
Why do you know Wisteria's resonating fluid recipe?
"A lucky guess? I owe you better than that. My relationship with Wisteria is complicated. We've had these intense, lengthy chats and I know so much about her, but … sorry.
We can talk about this more later. After we find her and Oleander."
Do you mind if I ask you about your tattoos?
"Sure. I was wondering when you'd ask. Not exactly subtle, are they? My family convinced me to get them.
They're magical. Something to keep me a little more, um, contained?"
What does that mean?
"My family members are renowned mages, every one of them. But growing up, my relationship with magic was always a little more wild. Unstable.
These tattoos are meant to keep the magic, to keep me, under control."
If you're uncomfortable talking about this ….
"No, no. It doesn't really hurt to talk about it anymore. Thanks to Wisteria, actually.
She really helped me get my magic under control. Mostly. Together we even discovered a few things. Maybe I'll show you later. If you play your cards right."
I'll meet you with the supplies near the rock west of Skywatch. (Appears after you ask one of the above questions and ends conversation.)

Once you have the River Lily and Chirrabi's Silver Dust, you can meet with Tanorlin at their makeshift alchemy lab near Skywatch:

Tanlorin: "Over here, friend! I assume you got everything we need?"

Speak with Tanlorin to hand over the reagents:

"I hope Chirrabi didn't give you a hard time. She's quick to show her claws, but you should hear the way she purrs when ….
You know what? Never mind. I'll take those ingredients now, if you please."
Here you go. Silver dust and river lilies.
"Perfect. I'll get this made right up. The concoction doesn't need to be precise. Hyacinth tried to explain it to me once. It's a symbolic link to the person you're trying to find."
Once you make the fluid, then what?
"Then we head to Toothmaul Gully. Once inside, we just need to find a clear spot to fill the fly's reservoir with the resonating fluid. The little guy will go after Wisteria faster than a Sload takes to a swimming hole."
All right. I'll let you get to mixing.

Tanlorin will then walk over to the alchemy table and begin crushing ingredients with a mortar & pestle:

Tanlorin: "Just need to muddle the petals, mix in the silver and oil … and there! Done!"
<The ingredients are the mixed into a flask for you to pick up.>
Tanlorin: "Grab the fluid and meet me at Toothmaul Gully. Wait until you meet the others! How exciting!"

Speaking with them before picking up the fluid:

"Just grab that fluid and meet me outside Toothmaul Gully.
Oh. And if the bottle feels a little warm, that just means I got the mix right. Just try not to shake it too much."

Talking to them after picking up the Resonating Fluid

"The tracker fly can't follow Wisteria's resonance until we're inside Toothmaul Gully. I'll activate the little guy when we get there.
I wonder who you'll like more. Wisteria or Oleander? I want to say Wisteria, but Oleander has such a great smolder."

You can then head southwest to the Toothmaul Gully where Tanlorin will be waiting for you:

Tanlorin: "Glad you made it, friend. Next, we'll need to find a spot inside to activate the tracker fly."

Talking to Tanlorin before heading inside:

"And here we are, Toothmaul Gully. Let's head inside and find a suitable place to activate the tracker fly. Once it's on the move, we'll have to race after it."
And you're sure the tracker fly will lead us to Wisteria?
"Wisteria and, if we're lucky, Oleander too! If Auri-el is feeling merciful today we'll find them together, unhurt, and at the door to this secret hideout.
And wondering where I am. As usual."
Do you really think that what we'll find?
"Hey, I'm trying to say it out into the world so the gods hear me. Either way. Thanks for helping out a stranger today, friend.
Now, let's get in there."
All right.

After this, Tanlorin will run into Toothmaul Gully and you can follow them. Once inside, they will be standing to the side and comment:

Tanlorin: "Let's find a spot to activate the tracker fly."

Talking with them before continuing:

"Once we find a spot, I'll just need a moment to activate the tracker fly. It's a finicky little gadget. Delicate wings and all that."

Head down the passage to the south, and you will soon find an appropriate location:

Tanlorin: "There, just ahead. Give me a moment."
<Tanlorin takes out the Tracker Fly and places it down.>
Tanlorin: "Now pour in the resonating fluid and get ready to move."

Talking with them before pouring the Resonating Fluid:

"Go ahead, pour some of that resonating fluid into the tracker. Don't be stingy with it either. It has to resonate with the essence of Wisteria to find her.
I think that's what Hyacinth said, anyway. To be honest, I wasn't really listening."

After pouring in the Resonating Fluid, the Tracker Fly will zip away southwards:

Tanlorin: "Follow that fly!"

Speaking with Tanlorin after:

"Look at it fly! Do your best to keep up with it. We don't want to get lost in here."

When you reach the Gully Side Chamber, Tanlorin will comment:

Tanlorin: "This is it. Wisteria must be just beyond this door."

Speaking with Tanlorin before continuing:

"Tread carefully, friend. I don't know what we might find in here. So stay on guard."

Inside this chamber, you will see a small Ceythalmor camp and Tanlorin will comment as you walk forward:

Tanlorin: "Do you see Wisteria anywhere?"

On an cot, you will find the Scrawled Ceythalmor Orders and Tanlorin will comment:

Tanlorin: "Ceythalmor? This isn't good. Let's keep looking."

Speaking with them afterwards:

"This place has a bad feeling to it. We need to find Wisteria and Oleander, quick as we can."

Walking past the camp, you will find the broken body of Oleander:

Tanlorin: "Oh no. Oleander."

You will have the option of talking to Tanlorin about this or continuing on:

"Oh, Oleander! Divines above, I didn't expect these bastards would go this far."
Why did they kill him?
"Because they're cruel. Because they work for greedy, callous puppet-masters who can't abide when their status quo is challenged.
Look, where his neck meets his shoulder. That's frostbite. Gods, they tortured him the same way they trapped me."
What about Wisteria?
"We need to find her. Now."
I'm with you, Tanlorin.

Speaking with them again:

"We were too late for Oleander. But there's a chance we can still help Wisteria. Let's find her."

At the end of the passage, you will reach the door to the Interrogation Chamber, as you approach you hear a voice call out:

Wisteria: "Hello? Is someone there?"
Tanlorin: "She's alive!"
<Tanlorin runs through the door.>

Once inside, Tanlorin will walk up to the cage containing the injured Wisteria:

Tanlorin: "You're hurt! What did they do to you?"
Wisteria: "I … heh. I didn't play nice. Ow. It hurts to smile."
Tanlorin: "We're here thanks to my new friend. Talk to them for a moment while I work on this lock."
<Tanlorin begins picking at the lock of the cage.>

When you talk to Wisteria, she will explain she and Oleander were captured and interrogated about their work with the Ring. Oleander was later killed as an example to keep her in line, Wisteria then asks you to check on Tanlorin's progress at picking the lock:

Tanlorin: "Have some faith, it's unlocked. Let me help you, Wisteria."
<Wisteria is helped up and she begins walking to the exit.>
Wisteria: "Tan, if I'd known a broken rib would get you to fawn over me, I'd have done this ages ago."
Tanlorin: "Impressive, isn't she? Let's talk outside. I want to make sure she's all right."
<Tanlorin follows her outside.>

Once outside, you can meet them on the road:

Wisteria: "Tanlorin. I'm sorry about Oleander."
Tanlorin: "You're hurt and you're the one apologizing? I'll mourn Oleander soon enough. Right now, I'm just happy you're safe."
Wisteria: "You're incorrigible. Ow!"

You can now speak with Tanlorin about what happened:

"Oleander was kind. Maybe a bit too dashing for his own good, but you would've liked him. The greenhouses won't be the same without his laughter. His smolder.
Look at me. Spoiling the mood. I'm not usually this serious. Promise!"
I think it's time you told me what's really going on, Tanlorin.
"Right, right. You've earned the truth, friend. And more. The Garland Ring, we don't just try to root out corruption. We're spies.
Those Elves that captured Wisteria belong to a group that calls themselves the Ceythalmor."
And who are the Ceythalmor?
"We don't know. Not specifically. They're led by people inside the Thalmor proper, hence their not-so-clever name.
We thought they were just war profiteers, making coin off the Three Banners War. They never resorted to kidnapping and murder before."
What do you want to do now?
"The Ring has boltholes we call greenhouses scattered across the Dominion. Hyacinth's is in Greenshade. I want to check that he's safe and get his take on all this.
If you decide to walk away, I won't blame you. But I sure would love some company."
I'm in. Where should I meet you?
"You're amazing. I've known it since I first laid eyes on you.
Hyacinth's greenhouse is near Serpent's Grotto. But before we get moving, I just dropped a lot on you. I'm sure you have questions."

As mentioned, you will be able to ask Tanlorin some additional questions before you leave:

I have a few questions, actually.
"All right, spit it out. I'll tell you what I know, for whatever that's worth. The day is moving kind of quickly."
If you're spies, have you ever worked with the Eyes of the Queen? ([verification needed — does this dialogue chain not appear at all if you haven't met the eyes of the queen]
"The Eyes of the …? No. Very, very much no. Everyone in the Garland Ring is like me, just a regular person who hopes to make tomorrow a little bit better than today.
I've heard stories about the Eyes. Honestly, they scare me."
"I've worked with the Eyes in the past.
"Auri-el must be looking out for me today. She sent me someone that's worked with the Eyes of the Queen!
I imagine we seem small in comparison. But I promise you, we make up for size in charisma, enthusiasm, and winning personalities."
You mentioned the leaders are part of the Thalmor. What's the Thalmor?
"So don't be alarmed. But they're the ruling bureaucracy of the Aldmeri Dominion.
The Thalmor consists of … well. Exactly who you'd expect. Canonreeves, merchants, and nobles. All, theoretically, advising Queen Ayrenn on how to run the alliance."
So the leaders of the Ceythalmor are a part of this Thalmor group?
"Precisely! And we've got the papers to prove it. The name alone … in old Ayleidoon cey means shadow. So literally, the Shadow Thalmor.
It's exactly the kind of pompous affectation a Thalmor official would find appealing."
Completed the Auridon Storyline [verification needed — how many quests qualify for this]:

That reminds me of the Veiled Heritance.
"You're full of surprises, my friend! I'm guessing you had a hand in what happened to them. Thank you, honestly.
I lost a cousin to the poison the Heritance was spreading. And you're right, they were connected to some powerful people."
Are there many of these factions in the Thalmor?
"More than any citizen of the Dominion should be comfortable with, if they bother to think about it. Have you ever heard of those Veiled Heritance idiots?
Xenophobic racists, the lot of them. Rumor is they have support in the Thalmor. Disgusting."
How did you become a spy?
"It's not much of a story. I have a complicated relationship with my family. I'm technically oustered, if you know what that means.
Anyway, I'm pretty good with my hands. You saw how I handled that lock. I took to thieving to make ends meet."
You were a thief before you joined the Garland Ring?
"I'm in the Garland Ring because I'm a thief. I was snatching rings and coins off some rich nobles in Skywatch when I looked behind me and realized one of my marks was following me. A strange-looking man in a frankly shocking outfit."
What happened?
"I thought he was going to turn me in to the city guard. But he wanted to compliment me! Said he was impressed, and offered me a … how did he put it? A job that would make frequent use of my skills.
And here we are today."
What does being oustered mean?
"In the eyes of my family and Summerset society, I'm banished. It's ceremonial, of course, but still.
My family had expectations of me I couldn't fulfill. My tattoos are a memento of all that. I just don't fit in."

After you have finished talking to Tanlorin, they will mention they have a means to reach Greenshade quickly:

Tanlorin: "Listen, I have a boat tucked away on the Skywatch docks. We can use it to get to Greenshade, if you need it."
<Tanorlin then walks over to where Wisteria is resting and crouches beside her.>
Wisteria: "Tan, these people? They're dangerous. Promise me you'll keep clear of them."
Tanlorin: "I'll be fine. I learned from the best, after all."

Once you arrive in Greenshade head to Serpent's Grotto and you will meet Tanlorin on the road:

Tanlorin: "Here, friend! The entrance is just up this hillside."

They will then run ahead and into the entrance of Hyacinth's Greenhouse:

Tanlorin: "Hyacinth will want to hear what happened. And I need to break the news about Oleander."

When you go inside, you will find it ransacked with green fumes everwhere:

Tanlorin: "Hyacinth! We need to talk about the Auridon mission. Hyacinth?"
<Tanlorin slows and looks around.>
Tanlorin: "The place looks ransacked. And by Auri-el, what's that smell?"

You will then need to speak with Tanlorin:

"We're too late. Look at this place. And that smell, gods.
Spread out. I don't think Hyacinth's still here, but maybe we can learn something about what happened."
What should we look for?
"Hyacinth is a genius. If the Ceythalmor took him, he'd find a way to leave us a message.
That's my hope, anyway. So look for anything that appears to be a clue, all right?"

After you speak with Tanlorin:

Tanlorin: "Come on, Hyacinth. I can't lose you, too."

As you examine various things around the room, Tanlorin will follow you that area.

Examining the Pheromone Bottles:

Tanlorin: "Ugh, that's Skeever musk. No wonder it reeks in here. Yech."

Examining the Spore Pods:

Tanlorin: "Careful. Those pods release paralytic spores. Nasty stuff."

Nearby you will notice the Pocket Ballista Design Document, after reading it Tanlorin comments:

Tanlorin: "Aww! Hyacinth took my pocket ballista idea seriously!"

Tanlorin then walks over to the ballista mentioned in the note and says:

Tanlorin: "Hyacinth bought a ballista? Amazing."
<They then look around the room and stop.>
Tanlorin: "A dead Ceythalmor agent pinned to the shelves? That's got to be Hyacinth's handiwork!"

Heading over the body pinned to the bookshelf, you will find the Ceythalmor Mission Orders when you search them. At this Tanlorin will ask:

Tanlorin: "What did you find?"

You can then speak with them and share what you found:

"Bottles of musk, spore pods, and a ballista. I wish I'd been here to see this. Knowing Hyacinth, he was taking notes about how effective each was on his attackers.
What did you find on that corpse? Anything telling?"
Ceythalmor orders. Take a look.
"They knew we were going to be in Auridon. And they used the opportunity to capture Hyacinth. Damn it. This is bad.
It says they took him to Rulanyil's Fall. That's not far from here! We need to look for a red banner. That's where we'll find them."
You want to go after them?
"Absolutely. Let me just grab some gear. Won't take but a moment, then we can rescue my friend.
Hey. How do you feel about kicking down some ancient Ayleid doorways?"
Whatever you need.

You having the options of leaving or waiting for Tanlorin to grab their gear:

Tanlorin: "I keep some supplies here for emergencies."
<Tanlorin the runs to some drawers in the corner of the room.>
Tanlorin: "Hyacinth made this armor just for me. Said he was bored."
<Tanlorin gets changed into their armor.>
Tanlorin: "There. Now I'm ready to crack some skulls."
<Tanlorin then runs towards the exit.>
Tanlorin: "Let's get out of here. I'll meet you at Rulanyil's Fall!"

Once inside Rulanyil's Fall, Tanlorin will be your follower:

Tanlorin: "Daedra and cultists won't stop us from saving Hyacinth. Let's find that hideout!"

Speaking with them at this point:

"Look at us. Rushing to save the day. Or, at least in the process of it. I can't wait to see Hyacinth's face when we storm in!
Now let's find that red banner and go cause some trouble."

Once you reach the entrance to the Ceythalmor Hideout:

Tanlorin: "Over there! What a sad looking banner. That must be our way in."

Talking to Tanlorin:

"No matter what we find in here, I'll be right beside you. Let's do this."

When you enter the hideout, Tanlorin will call out:

Tanlorin: "Hyacinth? Are you in here?"

Further into the chamber, Tanlorin will notice Hycainth as they look through a barred window:

Tanlorin: "There, I can see Hyacinth through the bars. Let's get in there!"

Once inside the Interrogation Chamber, Interrogator Cainthel will taunt Tanlorin:

Interrogator Cainthel: "The outcast Elf thawed out? No matter. I'll put you back on ice."
Tanlorin: "Hyacinth! Hold on, we're here to save you!"

After you defeat the Ceythalmor Agents, Tanlorin will run up to the device Hyacinth is being held in. Three beams of frost magic are focused on him, freezing him alive:

Hyacinth: "Bogcup, help me. I'm so cold."
Tanlorin: "I can weaken the ward holding Hyacinth, but I need you to deactivate the control pillars!"
<Tanlorin begins channeling magic at the ward.>

If you try talking to Tanlorin now:

"Quickly, I can weaken the ward holding Hyacinth, but I need you to deactivate the focusing pillars! There should be a button on each, I think."

Press the the three buttons on the control pillars and Hyacinth will be freed:

Hyacinth: "I'm free! Thank you. Thank you both."
<Hyacinth slowly walks away from the machine.>
Tanlorin: "I could never have saved you without my friend here. You've, um, already met."
Hyacinth: "Yes, your friend. We met through the lattice. Please, let's talk a moment."

Speaking with Tanlorin before Hyacinth:

"Hyacinth means the world to me and I want to thank you properly, but he wants to speak to you first."

Talking with Hyacinth, you can ask what the Ceythalmor wanted him for, and he will in turn ask what you know. Afterwards, he will speak to Hyacinth and approve of them telling you everything.

You can then speak with Tanlorin to complete the quest:

"We did it! We defeated the Ceythalmor and saved Hyacinth. Side by side, what a feeling! I knew you were special. Not everyone would drop everything to assist a stranger.
You know, you'd make a great addition to the Garland Ring."
Thanks … Bogcup?
"No, no. I didn't choose my codename. I prefer Tanlorin. It's simple. It's me.
Listen, other than some allusions, the Garland Ring has nothing to do with flowers. We genuinely believe that a few people can change Summerset society for the better."
Sounds ambitious.
"I'm not naive. I know we can't change the world overnight. But all you need is one spark to start a fire, right? To start burning away the corruption that eats at my homeland.
Out of idle curiosity. Does that sound at all fun to you?"
I'll think about it.
"Oh, I like you. Listen, the Ring will lay low for a bit. Try to figure out how they learned about our mission. I'm going to have some time on my hands.
I'd love to travel with you. I promise not to get you into trouble. Not too much, anyway."
You really want to travel with me for awhile, Tanlorin?

Leaving and returning to the conversation at this point:

"I really worked up a sweat saving Hyacinth! That was so exciting. And you? You were amazing!
Hey, maybe we should make a habit out of this."
You really want to travel with me for awhile?
"Is that so hard to believe? I knew you were special the moment you pulled me from the ice. Thanks to you, Wisteria and Hyacinth are safe, and we're alive to mourn Oleander.
And I promised you a reward. Here. Compliments of the Garland Ring!"

After completing the quest, the following will happen:

Hyacinth: "Bogcup, we should return to the Greenhouse. I need to recover and bolster my wards."
Tanlorin: "Of course. Oh, I hope Wisteria made it back all right."
Tanlorin: "And friend, remember what I said. Call on me anytime. I owe you and it would be fun!"
<Tanlorin then runs towards the side exit and leaves.>

Thorns and Blossoms[edit]

When you reach Friendly rapport with Tanlorin, they will want to talk to you about the last Garland Ring mission and a letter they received:

"Hey there friend! I have so many questions about that last mission! How did the Ceythalmor know we'd be in Auridon?
Or that Hyacinth would be alone at the Garland Ring base? And they had a hideout in Greenshade? Why didn't we know that?"
The Garland Ring must have some answers by now.
"You'd think so, right? But so far all Hyacinth will tell me is that he's too busy for my antics. And Wisteria threatened to punch me if I didn't leave it be. So I decided to go over their heads and finally got an invitation from the Gardener himself!"
The Gardener?
"He's no big deal. Just the founder of the Garland Ring itself! The cultivator of all our spylike activities. A font of sunshine and hope and … and all the other stuff the Ring stands for.
And he loves riddles. You up for a little adventure?"
I'll go with you to see the Gardener, but what was that about riddles?
Tanlorin: "Here, take a look!"
<Tanlorin goes and places something on the ground, two messenger-bugs fly around, and a floating letter appears.>
Tanlorin: "Don't mind the sparkles, just reach in and grab the note!"

Speaking Tanlorin before reading the letter:

"Go ahead. Reach into the sparkles and take the note from the messenger-bug.
You know, the Gardener never summoned me before. Usually Hyacinth sends the briefings. And his aren't nearly as flowery. A shame, too, considering all our flower references."

You can then read the Invitation from the Gardener which contains directions to the new Greenhouse in a form of a riddle. Tanlorin will ask your opinion afterwards:

Tanlorin: "What do you think? That's a good riddle, right?"

Speak with them to solve the riddle together:

"Whoa, a brand new greenhouse! The Gardener must be taking this Ceythalmor threat very seriously.
That must be why he used a riddle to disguise the location. Could you make any sense of it?"
I'm not sure. Any idea who Belarata is?
"Belarata. Belarata. Oh! Belarata's not a who, it's a what! There are ruins in Malabal Tor called Belarata! They're just south of Vulkwasten, along the Xylo River. They've got broken arches for sure!
That's half the riddle. What about the rest?"
An islet home and something growing in a ring of loam?
"Honestly, every time I go to Vulkwasten, I end up … well. Let's say I don't have any clear memories of the area. But I think there's a little island near Belarata.
But what sort of ring can you grow? Let's head there and find out!"
All right. I'll meet you at the ruins of Belarata in Malabal Tor.

After you agree to meet with Tanlorin, you take opportunity to ask them more questions about the situation:

"I'm glad I waited until you were available. We make an excellent team, if I do say so myself! Let's meet in Malabal Tor and find this ring grown in loam near Belarata.
At least this wasn't a Hyacinth riddle. Those always involve math."
I have a few questions, Tanlorin.
"Sure thing, friend! Consider me an open book! Well, maybe not a book. Dusty, musty things. What's the opposite of a book?
A puppet show? That's it! I'm an open puppet show! Anyway, what do you want to know?"
Tell me about the Gardener.
"I'll tell you what I can, but he's a bit of a mystery to me. I've only met him a handful of times.
Strong scent of perfume, fancy clothes. And like I said, he loves riddles. He's the one that picks our flowery code names, so Bogcup is his fault."
Is he a noble or a merchant?
"Not a clue. Oleander and I did try to figure it out once, but we didn't get very far.
The only thing we know for certain is that he has access to coin—heaps of it! Our gear, our weapons, the greenhouses, the Gardener provides them all."
How many greenhouses does the Garland Ring have?
"Hard to say. As the Gardener says, he's always growing something. I think he opens and closes them to maintain secrecy.
I spend most of my time at Hyacinth's greenhouse, in Greenshade, but others are scattered all across the Aldmeri Dominion."
Are they all like Hyacinth's?
"Not at all. Hyacinth's greenhouse is unique. It reflects his personality, what with all the constructs and magical gear.
Most are just warehouses. Hideouts to spend the night or weather a storm. I've got wine stashed in a few of them, just in case!"
Why did you wait for me before you went to answer the Gardener's summons?
"Why wouldn't I wait? I've enjoyed traveling with you so far … I mean, other than what happened to Oleander. Not sure I would have gotten through all that without you.
Besides, the invitation specifically said to bring a friend, so here we are!"
Let's head for Belarata Ruins. (Appears after asking one of the above questions)

When you reach the Belarata ruins in Malabal Tor:

Tanlorin: "There's the ruins. And look! I'd call that an islet."

Talking with Tanlorin at this point:

"I'm sure there's more to this puzzle than a single riddle. I can't wait to see what the Gardener leaves for us next!"

When crossing the water to the islet:

Tanlorin: "Hope you don't mind getting your feet wet."

On the islet, you will find a mushroom ring:

Tanlorin: "Those mushrooms form a ring! This must be the place!"

Touching the illusory mushroom, a new scroll will appear instead:

Tanlorin: "More sparkles! Ooo, is that another note?"
<Picking up the paper, you see it is a sketch of some trees.>
Tanlorin: "What'd you find? Is that a map of some sort?"

Talk to Tanlorin to show the sketch to them:

"A sketch hidden in a ring of mushrooms? Curious. I find mushrooms disturbing. Did you know they're alive? That they talk to each other? Isn't that horrific?
Anyway, what do you make of the drawing? Some sort of map, maybe?"
I think you may be right about it being a map. Here, take a look.
"Interesting. And the composition is nice, so we can add that to the things we know about the Gardener.
Hmm. Woven tree branches. There are plenty of those around here, but these look particularly familiar."
You're familiar with this place?
"Well, there are a bunch of Wood Elf camps and villages scattered around Malabal Tor. It could be Woodhearth.
No, wait. Deepwoods! There's a gate there formed by an arch of tree branches! Deepwoods must be where we'll find the next clue!"
Then let's head to Deepwoods.

Speaking with them again before leaving:

"Hmm. A riddle and a sketch. So far these clues all point to spots in Malabal Tor. I wonder if that means the new greenhouse is around here somewhere.
Anyway, let's find that arch and see what the Gardener left for us this time."

Reaching the Deepwoods, you will soon notice a strange silver bird perched on a rock:

Tanlorin: "Look, a sparkly bird! Check it out, friend."

Talking to Tanlorin before interacting with the bird:

"The Gardener loves his illusions! I wonder what this one does? You don't think it explodes, do you?
No, that would be silly. Still, why don't you examine it and see what happens."

Touching the bird, a voice will begin to speak, Tanlorin will begin taking notes:

Silver Bird: "Seek a ritual recorded in ancient stone, weary traveler."
Silver Bird: "Rest you shall find, behind an egress revealed by royal lavender."
<The illusion of the bird disappears and Tanlorin finishes writing.>
Tanlorin: "… Royal lavender. Got it! I jotted it down, so we won't forget."

Speak to Tanlorin about the latest riddle:

"I much prefer illusory birds to rings of mushrooms. That rhyme was terrible, though.
Let's consider the clue. An egress revealed by royal lavender? Sounds like a hidden door to me! That must be the entrance to the new greenhouse!"
So how do we find this hidden door?
"All of the clues pointed us here, to Malabal Tor. The answer lies in the first line. A ritual recorded in ancient stone. Maybe an Ayleid ruin? No, we've already been to a ruin. The Gardener wouldn't repeat himself.
Wait. Ritual stone. That's it!"
What's it?
"Malabal Tor has three ancient Mundus Stones. The Ritual is one of them!
I think it's at the southern edge of the region. Once we find it, we'll just need to gather some royal lavender to reveal the hidden door!"
All right, we'll travel to the Ritual Mundus Stone in Malabal Tor.

Afterwards, Tanlorin will hand you their notes:

Tanlorin: "Here, you should hold the note I wrote. I tend to lose things."

Speaking to them again before leaving:

"Royal lavender is a flower. What can I say? The Gardener loves his flowers! We can find some growing near the Ritual Mundus Stone. It's the purple one, right?
Just teasing! I know my flowers. The Garland Ring makes us take a test and everything!"

When you approch the Ritual Mundus Stone Tanlorin will comment:

Tanlorin: "There, the Ritual Stone is just up the hill. Let's look around for some royal lavender."

You will find the Royal Lavender growing around the Mundus Stone and will be marked out by blue light. You will need to collect three bunches of them before Tanlorin gives you further instructions:

Tanlorin: "See that bowl? That's got to be the Gardener's handiwork. Place the lavender in it and let's see what happens."

Talking to Tanlorin about it:

"That bowl was definitely set there by the Gardener. Not only is it his style, I saw one just like it on a table at a greenhouse in Reaper's March. Or was it Auridon?
Anyway, I'm sure that's where we need to put the lavender to reveal the door."

After you place the Royal Lavender into the nearby bowl:

<A purple ball of light flies towards the vine-covered door and the vines dissolve in purple light.>
Tanlorin: "It worked! Thank you, illusory poetry bird!"
Tanlorin: "Well, we made it! Let's go see this new greenhouse!"

Talking to Tanlorin before entering The Gardener's Greenhouse:

"Understated but still a bit flashy. Classy, in a restrained sort of way. Almost dignified, even.
Let's head inside and see what this new greenhouse looks like!"

Walking through the door, you find a garden with ancient elf architecture within the cavern:

Tanlorin: "This is beautiful. Gardener? Hello?"

Speaking with Tanlorin at this point:

"This place is gorgeous! Like he took a slice out of a mansion and dropped it into this cave.
You talk to the Gardener while I have a quick look around."

Exploring the area, you soon find the Gardener who is accompanied by Hyacinth. Speak with the Gardener to find our what is going on, he will explain that after the last mission he reached out to all Garland Ring members—past and present. Snapdragon, an ex-member had not responded to any the Gardener's messages and he asks you and Tanlorin to check on her in Skywatch.

After you agree to help:

Tanlorin: "You get to meet Snapdragon! Oh, I miss her. This is going to be great."
Hyacinth: "The Ceythalmor will almost certainly be watching. Tread carefully."

You can speak to Tanlorin before you leave and ask them about Snapdragon:

"Snapdragon? I haven't seen her in ages! A force of nature, that one! I saw her conjure a storm during an argument with the Gardener once. Petals and papers everywhere!
It shouldn't be hard to find her in Skywatch. Provided she hasn't been captured."
Sounds like you know Snapdragon well.
"We never went on any missions together, but she made quite an impression. Commanded the room, you know? And she liked me. I think.
She always teased me about something. In my experience, that's a good indication that someone doesn't hate you."
You admired her?
"Very much so. How did she say it? She knew what she was about. Composed when she needed to be, but otherwise she took up the space she felt she deserved. How could I not admire her?
Now let's go make sure she's all right!"

Once in Skywatch, you will need to head to the Mages Guild but as approach you overhear some adepts:

Votary Nofring: "Is it true? A reeve arrested a mage right in the guildhall?"
Adept Sethya Aloren: "I was there! Reeve Nardarmor marched right in with armed guards and arrested Lirinisse."
Adept Melinthewe: "That's terrible! Did they offer any explanation?"
Tanlorin: "Snapdragon's been arrested? We need to talk to those adepts."

Talking to Tanlorin before the adepts:

"Those adepts mentioned Lirinisse was arrested by a reeve. Lirinisse is Snapdragon!
Let's talk to them and find out what happened."

Speaking with Adept Sethya Aloren, she explains what happened and suggest you check Reeve Nardarmor's office in the Skywatch Manor:

Tanlorin: "The reeve's office. That's a great suggestion! Let's get over to the manor."

Talking to Tanlorin afterwards:

"Only the Ceythalmor would dare to arrest Snapdragon in the Mages Guildhall. She may have a temper, but she only yells at the people she cares about.
Let's search the Reeve's office and see what we can find out."

Inside the manor, the reeve's office will be on the west side of the building. Once inside, Tanlorin will be ready to look around:

Tanlorin: "Now, if I were a local Reeve with corrupt tendencies, where would I hide my secrets?"

Speaking with them at this point:

"There must be a record of Snapdragon's arrest. Where she was taken and why.
Don't be shy. We can tear this place apart if we have to. I'm not leaving until we find something!"

Tanlorin will comment on the things you check:

The bronze cat statue:

Tanlorin: "Good thought. I was hoping it was the switch to a secret panel, too."

The Skywatch Guard Report on the desk:

Tanlorin: "No mention of any Mage Guild arrests. Hmm."

The displaced wall panel:

Tanlorin: "A loose wall panel? The sure sign of a hidey-hole!"

Opening up the panel, you will find Reeve Nardarmor's Private Journal:

Tanlorin: "Told you! These types always have something to hide!"

After reading it, speak with Tanlorin about it:

"The moment people like this Reeve Nardarmor sit behind a desk, they start looking for a way to get rich. Or more rich. It's like this everywhere! Ugh.
Anything good in that journal?"
The reeve sent the mage they arrested to Sunhold. Here, take a look.
"Sunhold? This is bad. In my experience, you aren't sent to Sunhold unless they want you to disappear. Poor Snapdragon!
And poor us! We're going to have to get over there in order to save her."
Is Sunhold that terrible?
"It's an authoritarian fortress on the southern edge of Summerset! My family threatened to send me there when I disappointed them.
We need to contact Hyacinth. He should know how we can approach Sunhold without getting captured or killed."
All right, let's get in touch with Hyacinth.

Tanlorin walks to the corner of the room and places down the communication lattice:

Tanlorin: "I can contact Hyacinth through my lattice, but I'll need you to talk to him. Just be a moment."
<The projection of Hyacinth appears.>
Hyacinth: "Ah, Bogcup. Have you located Snapdragon?"

Speaking with Hyacinth, he comes up with an plan for you to enter Sunhold and asks you to meet him at South Beacon:

Hyacinth: "South Beacon, southwest of the lighthouse. And Bogcup, don't stop to feed any monkeys along the way."
<The projection disappears.>
Tanlorin: "Heh, that Hyacinth. Let's get moving."

Talking to Tanlorin before you leave:

"Told you Hyacinth would have an idea! This one time he smuggled Oleander, Wisteria, and me into a Khajiiti monastery using only an old Dwarven cookpot and a handful of sulfur.
Let's go to South Beacon as quick as we can."

Head to South Beacon, and you will find Hyacinth on the beach in front of an intricate ritual circle:

Hyacinth: "Take care not to disturb the sand, if you please."
Tanlorin: "I recognize a few of these runes. What are you planning, Hyacinth?"
Hyacinth: "Everything will be fine, Bogcup. Friend of Bogcup, a word."

Talking to Tanlorin before Hyacinth:

"Hyacinth has that look. He thinks he's being very clever right now. And he wants to talk to you, not me.
That makes me kind of nervous."

Hyacinth will want Tanlorin to use their soul magic on the nearby sail boat, to increase it's connection to Sunhold. This is to enchant the boat for a speedy and safe journey:

<Tanlorin walks up to the circle and Hyacinth.>
Tanlorin: "I am so mad at you right now, Hyacinth."
Hyacinth: "Of course you are. Take this portal curio for a quick return exit when you're done. Now, into the circle. And focus."
<Tanlorin walks into the circle and begins focusing on the sail boat. They glow with blue and gold light and the sail boat glows blue as well.>
Tanlorin: "Focus. I can feel the ship. And there! Hah! Hyacinth, you were right! I am exceptional!"

Before you leave for Sunhold, you can talk to Tanlorin and ask about their soul magic:

"I did it! Hah! Who knew? Hyacinth, I guess.
Let's get on the boat, head to Sunhold, and rescue Snapdragon! Then just an easy portal back to the greenhouse. What could go wrong?"
Can I ask you about this soul magic of yours?
"If you must. I try not to dwell on that too much. Hyacinth always tells me to utilize my inner talent. His words, not mine. My magic is all muddled up with my family, my tattoos. I'll tell you what I feel comfortable talking about. But beyond that …."
Your magic reminds you of your family?
"My family never understood me or my magic. You could only be a mage if you performed magic the way the Sapiarchs taught it. My mother said I was lying about my abilities, even after I showed her what I could do.
That's all I want to say about this."
How is this related to your tattoos?
"The tattoos were my family's attempt to control me. To stop me from sensing stuff, talking about things I shouldn't know. Generally, to keep me from being me.
As you can tell, it didn't work. Heh."
You don't like to use magic?
"Slinging around fire or soul stuff in a fight, I don't mind that at all. I even think I'm pretty good at it. I hope I've been useful in our scraps so far.
No, I don't like to use my … I don't know what to call it. My deep magic."
Deep magic?
"Ever since I was very young, I could sense connections between me and other people. Between people and objects. And sometimes, like just now, if I focus I can strengthen that connection. Almost reach out and touch it.
Anyway, we should get going."

Getting on the boat, you will sail from Auridon to Sunhold without incident. Tanlorin will comment as you leave the boat:

Tanlorin: "We're here! And no one even noticed as we sailed by, thanks to Hyacinth. Come on, Snapdragon's cell should be on the west side of the fortress."

Speaking with Tanlorin at this point:

"I did it! Hah! Who knew? Hyacinth, I guess.
Let's get on the boat, head to Sunhold, and rescue Snapdragon! Then just an easy portal back to the greenhouse. What could go wrong?"

Seeing the Maormer pirates, Tanlorin will comment:

Tanlorin: "Damned pirates. A plague on every port in Tamriel."

Heading along the west path, you will reach the Ceythalmor Prison:

Tanlorin: "Look up there! The same sad banner again. This must be the Ceythalmor prison!"

Talking to Tanlorin before entering the prison:

"All right. The reeve's journal said that Snapdragon was going to spend the rest of her days in a musty cell on the west side of Sunhold. So that's where we'll start looking. Let's go!"

Once in the prison:

Tanlorin: "Let's look around. They must have left something useful behind."

Exploring the prison, you will find an office on the top floor:

Tanlorin: "Hey, this room looks promising."

Speaking with Tanlorin before searching the room:

"Let's keep an eye out for anything that might tell us where they're holding Snapdragon.
Prison logs, arrest warrants, scribbled notes—that sort of thing. You know what I'm talking about."

On the desk, you will find Ceythalmor Interrogation Log which details the first session between Warden Harvithiel and Snapdragon.

Tanlorin: "Stay strong, Snapdragon! We're going to find you!"
"That journal says they're holding Snapdragon in a cell on the lower level. Let's go find her!
And Auri-El help anyone who gets in our way."

You can go downstairs and enter the Prison Cells where Warden Harvithiel will be waiting for you. Speaking with Tanlorin before fighting the warden:

"That's the prison warden. What do you say we do a little interrogating of our own?"

Once you kill her, Snapdragon will call out from her cell and tells you find the key:

"That takes care of the warden. There's got to be a key to the cells around here somewhere. Let's look around."

You can then enter the nearby side room where Snapdragon will be behind a cell door:

Tanlorin: "Snapdragon! Am I glad to see you! Alive and everything even!"
Snapdragon: "It would take more than a few rough questions to take me down! The key's right there. Grab it and unlock this cell, please."

The Prison Warden's Key is on the nearby table. You can then use it on the prison door:

Snapdragon: "Good to see you, young one. I assume you also have a plan to get us out of here?"
<Tanlorin takes the Portal Curio on of their bag and places on the ground.>
Tanlorin: "Hyacinth gave me one of his portal curios. One moment and …."
<The Portal Curio crawls over to the corner of the room and a portal opens.>
Tanlorin: "There! Now let's get out of here before more guards show up!"
<Snapdragon and Tanlorin enter the portal.>

Once back in the Gardener's Greenhouse, you can talk to Tanlorin before looking for Snapdragon:

"Let's go talk to Snapdragon and make sure she's all right.
And don't worry. Despite her name, she doesn't bite. Much."

Walking further into the greenhouse, you will find that Wisteria and Hyacinth are also here. You will soon come across the Gardener welcoming Snapdragon:

The Gardener: "Welcome to my greenhouse, Snapdragon. It pleases me to see that you're safe."
Snapdragon: "Spare me your pleasantries, Gardener. I must have a word with my rescuers."
Tanlorin: "Heh. She's as spirited as ever. Go introduce yourself to her, my friend."

Speaking with Snapdragon, she will explain why she originally left the ground and tells you about her belief that the Garland Ring is compromised.

Afterwards, Tanlorin will react to this announcement:

Snapdragon: "Not yet, but I have copious notes. Gardener, I'll speak to you now."
Tanlorin: "A traitor! In the Garland Ring? How is that possible?"
Wisteria: "Tan? Can I talk to you and your friend?"
Tanlorin: "Wisteria! Are you all right? How are your wounds healing? Do you need anything?"
<Tanlorin runs up to Wisteria.>
Wisteria: "I'm fine! I just wanted to catch up. I've missed you."

Talking to Tanlorin at this point:

"A traitor in the Garland Ring! That's not possible! Is it?
You should talk to Wisteria. I'd love it if the two of you got to know each other better. Heh. It might help dull the dread?"

You can then speak with Wisteria and she will tell you her concerns about Tanlorin due to the news of traitors. Afterwards Tanlorin will react:

Tanlorin: "You know I'm right here! I heard every word of that! But no more serious talk. We need some drinks."
<Tanlorin runs past Wisteria and climbs the stairs to the small library.>

Despite their blasé comment, Tanlorin will reveal their worries when you talk to them:

"A traitor in our midst? Someone I trust working against us? I'm not sure what to think.
It's all too much, my friend. I feel … lost."
You don't believe Snapdragon?
"That's the problem. I do believe her. I just don't want to. It's just … I hate to think of my friends, my family, as suspects in an investigation. And that's just what this is going to turn into.
We're going to figure this out. You and me."
You want us to determine who the traitor is?
"Who else is going to do it? I just need a glass of wine first. Maybe a bottle. After that ….
The Garland Ring is basically the people right here and a few agents in the field. It has to be one of them. We'll figure this out. Together."
I'm with you, Tanlorin.

Leaving and returning to the conversation at this point:

"Not to get all mushy, but we make a good team. Since I met you, I've felt more in touch with who I am. I never realized how much I used to hold myself back. Why? Insecurity, maybe. But with you, that all fades away.
We'll figure this out. Together."
I'm with you, Tanlorin.
"We started with illusory riddles and ended with a prison break! Then Snapdragon revealed there's a traitor in our midst.
We'll need time to plan. For Snapdragon to recover. But, friend, we're going to find the traitor and root them out! Together."

Uprooted[edit]

When you reach Close rapport, Tanlorin will approach you after receiving a letter from Hyacinth and will tell you about it:

"Friend, I've been struggling. There's a traitor in the Garland Ring. I still can't understand it.
I've been anxious to move, to do something. Well, thank Auri-el, the wait is over! I got a letter from Hyacinth."
What does the letter say?
"Sounds like Snapdragon and the Gardener have been going around and around, just like old times. But they must be making progress. Now Snapdragon wants us to meet her and collect her research.
Here, you hold onto the letter. For safekeeping."
Tell me about this research.
"Snapdragon has apparently been looking into the traitor situation since she quit the Ring. She keeps her research at a little cottage she has in Firsthold. Place we often used as a safehouse.
I'll mark it on your map and then we can go meet her."
Let's head to Firsthold and see what Snapdragon has to say.

Once you accept the quest, Tanlorin will hand over the letter for you to read and can be asked some more questions before proceeding:

"Last I heard, Firsthold is a mess. We might have to fight to get to Snapdragon's cottage. But if it means we can track down the traitor, it will be worth the effort."
Let me ask you a few questions before we head out.
"Sure thing! Actually I've been meaning to ask, have you been sleeping all right? I've got this nasty kink in my neck and I …. You know what? Not important right now.
What did you want to talk about?"
The traitor to the Garland Ring. What do we know?
"We learned about the traitor from Snapdragon, a former member of the Ring. We helped her escape from a secret prison, after she was captured by the Ceythalmor.
The most daring prison break I've seen since that Hidden Armiger we—uh—never mind!"
Do you have any idea who the traitor is?
"I don't even want to think about it. You've seen how we operate. We're a circle of trust, handpicked by the Gardener to get the job done.
Whoever has turned against us, I know them. Probably very well. It hurts my stomach to even imagine."
Has Snapdragon rejoined the Garland Ring?
"No, and I doubt she ever will. But if I know Snapdragon, that won't matter. Not until we find the traitor that imprisoned her. That got her husband killed.
I just hope I get a chance to say goodbye before she leaves us again."
Remind me, why did Snapdragon leave the Garland Ring?
"Snapdragon became convinced someone in the Garland Ring had turned traitor. We'd finally get a lead on the Ceythalmor and it would dry up. Over and over.
Her husband was killed in an ambush, and she quit. Said she couldn't work with us anymore."
How did her husband die?
"Gladiolus and Snapdragon were on a simple mission. Follow and observe. Easy. They were attacked. Got separated. When she found him, Gladiolus was dead. Frozen. A look of fear on his face.
This traitor, they've taken so much from us. It has to end."
Snapdragon was right about the traitor.
"We know that now, but back then? We've always been a small group. Tight knit. Like a family. The Gardener said he trusted every one of us. That we couldn't start pointing fingers.
Without solid proof, it would have destroyed us."
Have you enjoyed adventuring with me?
"What's not to love? We're cracking skulls and earning gold. The work I did for the Garland Ring was fulfilling, don't get me wrong. But it doesn't pay for drinks. No, to do that, I had to get creative.
Got real good at bar tricks."
Do you ever miss it?
"Miss what? Shoving gold coins up my nose? Oh, you mean the Garland Ring. Yes and no. It all has this weight to it now.
Honestly, I'm trying to stay focused here with you. The traitor is a friend, right? Or, at least, I thought they were."
We'll find them, Tanlorin.
"I'm not worried. Not really. Not when I'm by your side. We've done so much together already. Whoever the traitor is, we'll find them.
We have to, for Oleander. For Gladiolus. They deserve justice."

Once you enter the gates of the city of Firsthold, you can look for Snapdragon's Cottage until Tanlorin points it out:

Tanlorin: "This is the place. Let's go inside and find Snapdragon."

Speaking with Tanlorin before entering the building:

"Let's go find Snapdragon and her research. Maybe it'll finally get us on the trail of the traitor."

When you enter the building, you find it has been ransacked and Tanlorin says:

Tanlorin: "That smell, like burnt paper! And where's Snapdragon?"

You can then talk with them:

"No sign of Snapdragon, but there's soot all over the floor. Someone burned something here, and not too long ago."
Why would Snapdragon have burned anything?
"She wouldn't. But she was supposed to meet us here. And the place is a mess ….
Oh no. What if we're too late? What if the Ceythalmor got here ahead of us? Hurry, look around! Maybe they didn't find her research."
Let's see what we can find.

After this, Tanlorin will look around the room and comment:

Tanlorin: "I can't believe they did this."

When you check Snapdragon's Burnt Notes on the ground:

Tanlorin: "Nothing but ash now. Damn them."

On the table, you will find a piece of Blank Paper:

Tanlorin: "They didn't burn this. We might still have something! Here, let me see."

You can had the paper to Tanlorin and they will be excited when you speak to them:

"Ha! Snapdragon, you angry genius! I don't know how the Ceythalmor beat us here. Or what happened to Snapdragon, or what was in those burnt pages. But this blank piece of paper has my heart racing."
You're excited about a blank piece of paper?
"Ecstatic. And for two reasons. First, you remember the boat? Back on the beach? Through my deep magic I can sense the connection between people and objects.
And I sense Snapdragon all over this piece of paper. She cared about this sheet."
And the second?
"Because Snapdragon taught me how to hide messages in plain sight! You use an ink wash, almost like a watercolor. We just need to make a pigmented oil. Easy!
Knowing Snap, we can find everything we need somewhere in the cottage."
You think this paper contains a hidden message? So how do we make pigmented oil?
"There's a Bluemoth flower near the door. Grab some petals and … oh, there's some oil on that bookcase. You can grind the petals and combine them with the oil at her alchemy workbench.
Here, I'll put the sheet of paper back on the table."
All right. I'll get what we need.

If you speak with Tanlorin again while searching:

"All we need are some flower petals and a little oil. Ideally linseed, but any old oil would do fine.
Walnut, poppy seed, bugloss. You get the idea."

Finding the Cruet of Alinor Oil on the bookcase:

Tanlorin: "Oil from Alinor? Perfect. Mix it at the alchemy table!"

Taking the Bluemoth Petals from the plant near the bookcase:

Tanlorin: "Perfect. All we need is a few petals." [verification needed — see talk page]

After you have both, ingredients go to the alchemy table and create the Inkwash:

Tanlorin: "You're a natural! Now pour that on this sheet of paper."
<Tanlorin places the blank paper on the table.>

Talking to them before using the inkwash:

"The blank sheet of paper is right there on the table. Just pour a bit of the ink wash onto it and see if it reveals any hidden writing.
A little goes a long way, so don't get too wild."

Using the ink, it will cause gold motes of magic to appear on it. You can then speak with Tanlorin before reading it:

"I think you did it! I can see letters appearing on the paper. Read what it says already! The suspense is killing me."

You can then read Snapdragon's Revealed Notes, understandably Tanlorin will be concerned:

Tanlorin: "Auri-El's bow! This is bad."

Speak to them about what you just read:

"Damn and blast and arse!
This is not good. In Snapdragon's letter she says Hyacinth asked her to meet him alone at Bone Tree. But why would he do that if he sent us here to rendezvous with her?"
At least she apparently avoided the Ceythalmor that burned her research and ransacked the cottage.
"Right, but how did anyone know about her research? Or that it was stored here? Something's terribly wrong.
Friend, we've got two very different letters from Hyacinth. Obviously, he didn't send one of them! We have to get to him and Snapdragon!"
Where is this meeting place she mentioned?
"It's a big tree in Grahtwood, near the Bone Orchard. We used to have meetings there to exchange information, back when I first joined the Ring.
I'll mark it on your map. We've got to get over there as fast as we can!"
Right. Let's get to Grahtwood.

Talking to Tanlorin again before you leave:

"The old meeting site is near the Bone Orchard. I can't remember the last time I was there, but I'll know it when I see it.
I'm so glad you're here. I'm beside myself. Is this happening again? Is the Ceythalmor going after my friends?"

While on the road in Grahtwood leading to the Bone Orchard, Tanlorin will comment if you pass a Dominion camp:

Tanlorin: "Dominion soldiers? Let's stay well clear."

When you arrive at the meeting place, will see smoke in the area and blood on the ground:

Tanlorin: "No, no, no. Something bad happened here! Hyacinth! Snapdragon?"

Talking with Tanlorin before searching:

"Let's look around. They have to be here somewhere!"

Examining the Blood-stained Plant:

Tanlorin: "Blood everywhere. That's not good."

Examining the Smouldering Ashes:

Tanlorin: "Snapdragon's magic did this. It happened quite recently."

Examining the damage to inside the tree:

Tanlorin: "Auri-El, they wrecked this place."

Examining the dagger:

Tanlorin: "A Ceythalmor dagger."

Talk to the upset Tanlorin:

"Gods, look at this place! No sign of Hyacinth, but I think Snapdragon's magic set everything on fire. I think I'm going to be sick."
Stay focused, Tanlorin.
"Right … right. Ugh. There was blood on those leaves, but no bodies. There might be a trail we can follow. We'll probably have to crouch down to spot it.
I hate this, but let's take a look."
Let's look for that trail.

Afterwards, Talorin will tell you how to track:

Tanlorin: "We should be able to pick up the trail if we crouch and examine the ground."

This will highlight the pools of blood going westwards. Talking to Talorin during the search:

"I can't believe this is happening. Let's find them. Before …."

During your search they will comment on the bloodstains:

Tanlorin: "There's so much blood."
Tanlorin: "We don't even know whose blood we're following."

At the each of the trail, you will find the gravely injured Snapdragon:

Tanlorin: "Snapdragon! We found her!"
<Tanlorin runs up to her.>
Snapdragon: "Bogcup, thank the gods!"

Speaking with Snapdragon, she will call Hyacinth the traitor, as he was with Ceythalmor agents when she arrived. She attacked them with magic and barely got away, but was severely injured during the attack. She will tell you to go the smuggling tunnels beneath Southpoint and deal with the traitor. Afterwards, she will have some final words for Tanlorin:

Tanlorin: "Snapdragon. Please. No."
Snapdragon: "You were always the best of us. Bogcup."
<Snapdragon dies.>
Tanlorin: "I can't. Let's go to Southpoint. I need to kill something."

You can try talking to Tanlorin afterwards:

"If I try to make sense of this. If I try to understand why Hyacinth would do this. I'll fall apart.
Let's get to Southpoint and reach those tunnels. We do that, we find him. We get our answers."
Do you want to talk about this, Tanlorin?
"I can't. Not right now. I can't stop to talk about this while Snapdragon lies there and Hyacinth gets away!
I—. Do you really think Hyacinth did this? That he's really the traitor?"
I just know what Snapdragon told us.
"Right. Just more words. And that scares me.
Let's push forward. Find Hyacinth. Then, for Snapdragon's sake, I'm prepared to do what needs to be done."

Once you arrive in Southpoint, you can find the entrance to the Smuggler Tunnels in the southeast tower:

Tanlorin: "A trap door. That must lead down into the tunnels."

Speaking to Tanlorin while in the tunnels:

"Eyes sharp and daggers ready. If Hyacinth is the traitor …. He's not getting away."

Deeper in the tunnels, you will come across a injured Agent Firinn:

Tanlorin: "Well look at this. A wounded Ceythalmor agent. How'd you get hurt?"
Agent Firinn: "No, no, no! How did you find us? You weren't supposed to find us."

Speaking with Firinn he refuses to say anything and Tanlorin will bargain with him:

Tanlorin: "That burn Snapdragon gave you, it must be very painful. I've seen wounds like that before. If you don't get healed soon …."
Agent Firinn: "I can endure. We march forward toward … agh."
Tanlorin: "I've got a healing poultice here. I can make all that pain go away. You just need to talk."

Talking to Tanlorin before Firinn:

"If he knows what's good for him, he'll talk."

You can talk to him again and he will tell you some things, because he thinks you won't be able to change anything. He has no idea where Hyacinth is, due to the nature of the Ceythalmor cells and says you can check his captain's quarters in the nearby room for information. When you ask him about the traitor, he says that he never met them, but knows they were embedded in the Garland Ring for years.

At this, Tanlorin will hold up their end of the bargain:

Agent Firinn: "Augh, thank you. Please. The pain is unbearable."
<Tanlorin approaches Agent Firinn and gives him the healing poultice.>
Tanlorin: "Here. Just so you know, it's got a side effect."
Agent Firinn: "What side effect?"
<Tanlorin punches him in the face and knocks him out.>

Talking to Tanlorin afterwards:

"I won't lie. That felt good.
Let's check the captain's quarters. Even if we can't find out where Hyacinth went, maybe there's something else in there we can use."

Entering the captain's quarters, you will find yourself in a makeshift torture chamber:

Tanlorin: "Let's look around. They must have left something useful behind."

On the ground you can find an Etched Metal Disk:

Tanlorin: "A metal disk? I think I recognize that. Hold onto it."

When you read the Ceythalmor Captain's Journal on the table:

Tanlorin: "Anything interesting? Let me take a look."

Talk to Tanlorin to show them the items:

"No surprise, they were behind the attack that killed Snapdragon. Hmm. They're moving Hyacinth to Crimson Cove in Malabal Tor … but it's hard to tell if he's a prisoner or working with them.
Do you still have that metal disk?"
Here you go.
"Just as I thought. Hyacinth's handiwork. I can feel his lingering connection to the disk.
He imprints these with a little device he put together. It's like a music box, except instead of sound it records moments. A brief glimpse into the past."
So there's a moment on the disk? How can we view it?
"Since we don't have his device, just toss it into the fire. It will heat the etchings. Before the disk melts, it should reveal whatever moment was captured within it."
Let's give it a try.

When you throw the Etched Metal Disk into the nearby brazier, a scene between Hyacinth and Captain Cynoric will play out. It shows Hyacith bound, and he asks Captain Cynoric where he is being taken. The captain responds that the insider wants to introduce themselves at Crimson Cove.

You can then talk to Tanlorin:

"Auri-El, that makes me happy! Did you hear that? Hyacinth isn't the traitor!
I'm happy, but also feel sort of sick at the same time. Weird."
If Hyacinth isn't the traitor, that doesn't leave a lot of options.
'I know, and I'm absolutely nauseous about it. The Garland Ring isn't that big. Poor Snap is dead, Hyacinth is innocent but captured. That only leaves ….
Let's focus. We need to get to Crimson Cove and save Hyacinth. Again."
Where is Crimson Cove?
"It's a cave on the north shore of Malabal Tor. On a good day, it's dangerous. If the Ceythalmor are there, we're in for a tough time.
Doesn't matter. We need to get in there. I'm not letting another friend die today."
All right. Let's head to Crimson Cove.

Afterwards you will hear Tanlorin comment:

Tanlorin: "Let's get out of here. We've got a tinker to save."

You can talk to them and ask about Crimson Cove and their thoughts on the situation:

"We might have to do some searching once we get to Crimson Cove. I expect the Ceythalmor base will be well hidden.
Crimson Cove isn't my favorite place in the world. But it's worth the trouble to save Hyacinth."
What's the problem with Crimson Cove?
"Oh, nothing much. At least not if you like damp and creepy caves full of pirates, ogres, and now Ceythalmor agents.
But we should head out. We need to save Hyacinth and find out who the traitor really is."
How did Hyacinth capture that moment on the disk?
"Heh. That's why you always search a Garland Ring agent. He must still have some of his constructs on him. Most aren't very large.
I'm not sure how it works, but it imprints events that can be reviewed later. Like we just saw."
Clever.
"Always. When I thought Hyacinth had turned against us. Gods. What his mind might do working for the Ceythalmor.
Very glad that's not something we'll have to deal with."
You know Wisteria might be the traitor, right?
"Don't, please. I know what you're saying. But if it's her ….
If we walk in that cave and Wisteria turns out to be the traitor … I don't know what I'll do. I can't run from this. But I can't talk about it right now, either."
How are you feeling now?
"Sick to my stomach, but I guess I'm less angry. I'm trying not to lose sight of Snapdragon's death. Even if I'm incredibly relieved Hyacinth isn't the traitor.
Gods, she went to her grave thinking her friend had betrayed her. I hate these people."

You can then head to Malabal Tor and the Crimson Cove, once inside Tanlorin will comment:

Tanlorin: "Smell that? Sea salt and blood. Be ready."

Speaking with Tanlorin at this point:

"There's no need to go in quiet. In fact, let's make as much noise as possible. I want them to know we're coming.
Let's find that base and get Hyacinth out of there."

From the entrance, go east until Tanlorin notices a familar banner on the cave wall:

Tanlorin: "There, up top. That banner again. This must be the Ceythalmor base."

You can then go through the hidden passage into the Ceythalmor Base. Once inside, you will Hyacinth trapped in a magical torture device as the traitor talks to him. Captain Cynoric and some fellow agents will be watching the show:

Wisteria: "Hyacinth, it doesn't have to be like this. Give me what I need and all this pain will stop."
<Tanlorin runs up to the platform and points at Wisteria.>
Tanlorin: "Wisteria! Stop!"
Wisteria: "Tanlorin? How? I … Agents, go! I need some more time."
Captain Cynoric: "You heard the boss! Let's squash this flower."
<Captain Cynoric and two Ceythalmor Agents jump down to fight.>

Once Captain Cynoric and the other agents are dead, Wisteria will leave:

Wisteria: "I did this for us, Tan. You'll see. This is all for us."
<She leaves through a portal.>
Hyacinth: "Tanlorin … the levers."
<Tanlorin runs up to the magical torture device.>
Tanlorin: "Pull the control levers, friend!"

If you try and talk to Tanlorin:

"Forget her. We need to get Hyacinth out of that contraption. Looks like those levers there should set him free."

As you start using the levers, you may hear Tanlorin comment to Hyacinth:

Tanlorin: "We've got to stop meeting like this, Hyacinth."

After the machine is turned of, Hyacinth will stagger down:

Tanlorin: "That did it! Hyacinth, are you all right?"
Hyacinth: "Thank you, both. I would not have lasted much longer. We should speak outside."

Talking to Tanlorin before leaving:

"Let's just get out of here."

When you go outside, Hyacinth will despondently sitting on a rock while Tanlorin stands to the side. If you try talking to them before Hyacinth, they will just say:

"Talk to Hyacinth, would you? I need to think about what happened in there. He'll understand."

Speaking with Hyacinth, you learn that he and Snapdragon were tricked into meeting at the Bone Orchard so they could be ambushed. The reason Hyacinth was to be kept alive, was because Wisteria wanted to torture Hyacinth for information about the Garland Ring. He managed to convince her that he had a hidden journal with this information back in his Greenhouse. A portal will then be opened nearby so you can travel to the Greenhouse quickly.

Afterwards there will be a short conversation between Hyacinth and Tanlorin:

Tanlorin: "Wisteria has gone to your greenhouse? Good. She and I need to have a word."
Hyacinth: "Careful, Bogcup. Wisteria is not who we thought she was."
Tanlorin: "Get to the Gardener, Hyacinth. We can handle Wisteria."

Speaking with Tanlorin afterwards, they will be mulling over what Wisteria said:

"Did you hear what Wisteria said? This is all for us. What was she talking about?
Let's get to Hyacinth's greenhouse. I need some answers."

Once you have returned to Hyacinth's Greenhouse, Tanlorin will comment as you walk further in:

Tanlorin: "She's here, I can feel it."

Talking to Tanlorin here:

"If Wisteria is here, she's probably deeper in, searching for that nonexistent journal. Let's see if we can find her."

You can find Wisteria in the northeast corner behind a magical barrier as she searches through drawers:

Tanlorin: "Wisteria! Why are you doing this? Help me understand."
<Wisteria stops searching and walks over to the barrier.>
Wisteria: "I'm doing this for us, Tan. Remember our dream? A world free from suffering, from corruption. Safe."
Tanlorin: "A world controlled by the Ceythalmor? How is that safe?"
Wisteria: "The Ceythalmor are a means to an end. It would be a world under our control. Please. Listen to me."
Tanlorin: "Wisteria, I thought I knew you. But this is … no. I won't. I'm sorry."

When you speak to Wisteria, she will reveal her true feelings about the Garland Ring and you. With the latter, she is convinced that you turned Tanlorin against her and hates you for it. She will then mention that the Ceythalmor plan is in action and that it is too late to stop it. With the end of the conversation, she leaves:

Wisteria: "I'm sure you will. And Tan? My offer still stands."
<Wisteria walks away from the barrier, opens a portal and leaves.>
Tanlorin: "She makes it look so easy, walking out of my life."

You can then speak with the emotionally wrecked Tanlorin:

"I feel hollow. Like she took a part of me with her. In a way, I suppose she did.
What am I going to do? Wisteria taught me everything I know."
You're more than just your training, Tanlorin.
"Maybe. But the Ring is in shambles. Snapdragon's dead. And Wisteria …. After my family turned away from me, she helped me redefine who I was.
I wouldn't be who I am without her. So, what's left of me now that she's gone?"
Do you want to take her up on her offer?
"What, and rule the Summerset Isles as pawns of the Ceythalmor? Not even a little bit.
She's been one step ahead of us at every turn. We don't even know what this plan of hers is really about."
We dealt with the Ceythalmor before. We can do it again.
"Ah, so this is what it's like. Here I am, feeling like my life is over. But you're all supportive and determined to inspire me.
Now I see why Hyacinth finds me so annoying. You're right, friend. She hasn't broken us yet."
Right. We'll figure this out. Together.

Leaving and returning to the conversation at this point:

"Thanks for picking me up off the floor, friend. This has been … well. A terrible day."
Right. We'll figure this out together.
"We lost Snapdragon, and I'll never understand why Wisteria is doing this, but we saved Hyacinth. That's something.
What did she call you? A thorn in her side? We'll figure out her plan. And then we'll jab that thorn into the Ceythalmor's heart."

After the quest is completed, you can talk to Tanlorin some more:

"Wisteria is the traitor. It feels impossible and inevitable at the same time. Was anything she ever said to me real? Or was it all just part of her plan? Whatever that is.
Sorry. I'll try to stay positive. Just a lot to take in."
Tanlorin, will you be all right?
"Remember when I was stuck in that ice? I kept thinking, Wisteria will save me.
She'd come strolling down the path from Vulkhel Guard, smiling that sharp smile of hers. I'd crack jokes while she chipped me free."
Instead, it was me.
"And look how far we've come. Actually, maybe that's why she hates you so much. She seems to really hate you, by the way. In case you hadn't noticed.
If she hates you, the best adventuring partner I've ever had, clearly I'm doing something right."
That's the spirit.
"The Wisteria I know. Well, the one I knew. She could face down a minotaur and not break a sweat.
But one look at you and the veins in her neck pop! I think she's scared of you. Scared of what we can do together. And that gives me hope."

Of Crown and Flowers[edit]

When you reach Allied rapport with Tanlorin, they will want to talk about a surprising letter they received from the Marbruk bank:

"Wisteria betrayed us and for what? A Ceythalmor plan we know nothing about? I've been struggling to think of something, anything that could help us end this threat. Give us a direction.
So, imagine my surprise when I got a letter from a ghost."
A letter from a ghost?
"The letter's from Snapdragon, by way of a banker in Marbruk. She left behind instructions that in the event of her death, I was to inherit a locked coffer.
A coffer that the banker says she gave to the bank for safekeeping a week before her death."
Any idea what's in the coffer?
"I'd guess it has something to do with all the research she did into the Ceythalmor, but there's only one way to be certain.
I say we head to the Foundation of Trust bank in Marbruk and see what she locked in the coffer for me. Well, for us."
All right. Let's head to Marbruk.
"I'm trying not to get my hopes up. But Snapdragon is—was—meticulous. If anyone could have uncovered Wisteria's plan, it's her.
Let's head to Marbruk. We need to ask for a clerk named Lahathril. Hopefully, this will get us back on track."

You can keep on talking to Tanlorin and ask more questions:

Let's talk about a few things before we head out.
"I know, I know. You're supposed to talk about your feelings when things are rough. I'd rather just get a drink, to be honest. But talking is fine, too.
So, what do you want to talk about?"
Have you heard from Hyacinth or the Gardener?
"Enough to know they're alive, but that's about it. I'm not surprised. Those two love to sit in dark rooms and map out every move the Ring makes ahead of time.
In the early days, I couldn't so much as kick down a door without consulting Hyacinth."
What changed?
"Wisteria started running the missions. She let me make my own decisions. Let me make mistakes.
It was a big change from when I was growing up. Back then, every moment was calculated, controlled. And when that didn't work, I got these tattoos."
How do you feel about your tattoos now?
"For a long time, I couldn't look at them without feeling a sense of failure, of disappointment. But the way you and Wisteria look at me? Look at them?
They've grown on me. They make me feel kind of special, actually."
Wisteria is the traitor. Has it gotten any easier?
"Is it any easier to know that she was lying to us from the beginning? That she's been undermining our efforts since the moment she joined the Garland Ring? No.
And the more I think about it, the more confused I am."
What do you mean?
"We still have no idea what her actual plan is. I mean, some of our missions against the Ceythalmor actually succeeded! Were those just shams? Her letting us think we won?
Another thing. That day in Auridon. The ice trap. Why me? Why not Oleander?"
Was she trying to protect you?
"Instead of trying to protect me, she could have treated me like an equal! Told me the truth! If she had, maybe I could have changed her mind. Or she could have changed mine.
I don't mean that. I just wish a lot of things had gone differently."
Do you still enjoy traveling together?
"After everything that happened? You've been a boon. I can't imagine what sort of trouble I'd have gotten into without you. The Divines know I needed a distraction.
Without you, I'd probably be three bottles deep before midday."
There's still time to stop at a tavern before we go to Marbruk.
"Ha! Don't tempt me!
You're a good friend. Gallivanting aside, you've shown me kindness. And that's a rare thing in this world. More rare than you might realize. I appreciate it, and I appreciate you."
Thanks for talking. Let's get to Marbruk. (Appears when ask one of the above questions. Will end conversation and remove the above dialogue options)

You can then head to Marbruk and find their local bank. Once inside The Foundation of Trust bank, Lahathril that wrote to Tanlorin is waiting for you:

"That's Lahathril, the clerk that wrote to me. I'll keep an eye out for any Ceythalmor on the off chance this is a trap.
Heh. If things go sideways, grab as much gold as you can and run."

Talking to Lahathril, she will recognize you and Tanlorin by description and hands you the Safebox Key. Talking to Tanlorin before opening the safebox:

"Let's find out what Snapdragon left us. Fingers crossed this gets us closer to figuring out Wisteria's plan.
Or I guess, failing that, we're eating and drinking very well tonight."

Opening the safebox, you find a copy of Snapdragon's Research Journal:

Tanlorin: "That's a journal! Let me take a look."

Hand over the book so Tanlorin can read it:

"This is it, friend. I can hardly believe it! These are the notes the Ceythalmor burned back at Firsthold. Snap made a copy!
Look at this, a suspect list and all of our recent movements. I'm impressed, a little scared, and kind of hot and bothered."
The journal has a section about Wisteria.
"Yeah. Snap has her all over Greenshade. Along the coast, near the ruins of Labyrinth, and somewhere called Echo Pond. What were you up to, Wisteria?
How do you feel about taking another little trip, friend?"
What do you have in mind?
"Snapdragon didn't have a chance to follow up. These could be mustering outposts, with all kinds of notes about what the Ceythalmor are really up to.
Best case, we figure out Wisteria's plan. Worst case, we cause the Ceythalmor some trouble."
All right. Where do you want to start?
"Let's work down the list, starting with the area southwest of Seaside Sanctuary. I marked your map. Greenshade's coast is all coves and inlets. Plenty of spaces to hide.
Now let's go. This authoritarian plot isn't going to unravel itself."

Before you continue, you can ask Tanlorin some more questions:

Should we contact Hyacinth and the Gardener and tell them what we found?
"You want us to waste time getting approval? No. I don't think so. I'm tired of waiting to be told what to do and when to do it.
We can handle this without them."
What if we need help?
"When have we ever needed assistance? We've been fine on our own, right? If anyone's going to stop Wisteria, it's going to be us. It has to be us. Hyacinth will just try to talk me out of it. Take things slow. Play it safe.
Not today. Today we act."

You can then travel to Seaside Sanctuary and then head southwest along the coast, where you will find a Ceythalmor Encampment. Speaking with Tanlorin before continuing:

"Would you look at that. A Ceythalmor encampment. Let's see if we can turn up anything interesting."

After you have killed Captain Dinfanuel and his squad, Tanlorin will comment:

Tanlorin: "That's all of them. Let's look around."

When find the Ceythalmor Relocation Orders:

Tanlorin: "Plans for Alinor? That doesn't sound good."

There will be a path leading from the main camp to a singular tent, where you will find a bottle of wine:

Tanlorin: "That bottle looks familiar."

When you examine the bottle, the following will happen:

Tanlorin: "Shimmerene Rose. Wisteria's favorite. Wait, I can feel her."
Tanlorin: "It's like with the boat and the disk. It's like she's right here. If I just …."
<A blue light surrounds Tanlorin's head as they stretch out their arm. A spectral copy of Wisteria then appears in chair.>
Wisteria: "I must return to Alinor soon. I had hoped Tan would have come to their senses and joined me …."
<Wisteria takes a sip of her wine and the vision stops.>
Tanlorin: "Auri-El! How did I do that? You saw that, too, right?"

You can then speak with Tanlorin about what happened:

"It's like Wisteria was right there. I just thought of her, focused on her, and there she was.
I could feel the connection between us, stronger than it's ever been. All I had to do was reach out."
Was that like the memory from Hyacinth's disk?
"Sort of. But this was all me. Me and my magic. I think it was Wisteria's memory. I reached out through the connection we share and manifested a moment that happened, right there in that tent.
Wait. Do you think I could do it again?"
What are you thinking Tanlorin?
"Hah! Sorry. This is so exhilarating! Like the smell after it rains. Have I been able to do this all along? Not important right now.
What if we go to other places she's been? I can manifest her image again. And maybe use this to learn their plan!"
You want to go to the other locations in Snapdragon's journal.
"Exactly! Where were those other two places Snap wrote down? I think the next one was over near the Labyrinth? We head over, find another object connected to Wisteria. And this time I really focus.
Who knows what we might see?"
All right, to the Labyrinth.

Afterwards, you have the option of asking Tanlorin about their new ability:

"I think Snapdragon's journal said the next site was near the Labyrinth, not in it. Friend, if we can find something else Wisteria left behind ….
This is amazing! Wait until I tell Hyacinth about this."
You've never done anything like that before?
"Manifested a memory? No. Never. My deep magic, it's not something I really like to use. But that time? It felt natural. Like breathing.
I focused on how badly I wanted to see Wisteria. And it's like I just pulled part of her right to me."
Why do you think it happened?
"When I was younger, before my tattoos, my magic would flare up when things got too emotional. And not just me, people around me. Their anger, or fear, or joy. I could feel it, physically feel it.
I used to hate it, but this was kind of beautiful."
Before your tattoos?
"Yeah. My parents brought in a Sapiarch to examine me. Said it was undisciplined soul magic. And when I couldn't hide the flares? Tattoos.
After that, the flares were much easier to control. But that feeling of connection never quite went away."
Why do you think Wisteria brought this out of you?
"When I joined the Garland Ring, she accepted me, faults and all. Taught me how to use magic despite the dampening my tattoos projected. How to fight. Be confident.
How could I not fall in love? And now, that love might be just what we need."

When you arrive outside the Labyrinth Tanlorin will comment:

Tanlorin: "Hang on, I sense something. Let's check out that pavilion."

Looking around, you will find another bottle of wine in the pavilion:

Tanlorin: "Another bottle of Shimmerene Rose. Wisteria was here."
Tanlorin: "All right, Tan. You can do this. Focus. Think of Wisteria. Reach out."
<Tanlorin focuses on their connection to Wisteria while using the soul magic. A memory of Wisteria appears.>
Wisteria: "This is it. Our forces are gathering at Dusk Keep. It's all moving so quickly."
<Wisteria walks over to the firepit.>
Wisteria: "Breathe, woman. You are in control. No one can stop you. Not even Tan and that thorn."
<The memory ends.>
Tanlorin: "I did it again! That was incredible!"

You can then talk to Tanlorin about what you learnt:

"Did you see that? I'm amazing!
But this is so strange. Seeing Wisteria like this. She's stressed, I can tell. She's mustering the Ceythalmor at this Dusk Keep. Whatever they're planning, it "
Do you know where Dusk Keep is located?
"Never heard of the place. We tried to find the Ceythalmor's primary base for ages. But you can't throw a rock in Summerset without hitting a ruin. Any one of them could be a secret lair."
So how do we find it?
"We have one more location to check. Echo Pond. I say we head there and see what other memories I can manifest. We might learn more about their big plan or the location of Dusk Keep. It's obviously the staging ground."
Let's go.
"Echo Pond is north of Marbruk, just beyond Driladan Pass. Hopefully we can find something I can work with there. It's the last place Snapdragon lists in her journal.
The last place Wisteria went before … well. Yeah."

If you keep talking with Tanlorin, you can ask about the Shimmerene Rose wine:

What's with all the bottles of Shimmerene Rose?
"Echo Pond is north of Marbruk, just beyond Driladan Pass. Hopefully we can find something I can work with there. It's the last place Snapdragon lists in her journal.
The last place Wisteria went before … well. Yeah."
What's with all the bottles of Shimmerene Rose?
"I think, I think I may be on her mind. I once found her drinking a bottle before a mission. She was embarrassed. Told me that it reminded her of home.
I said it was a bad habit that would be a little less bad if we shared it."
Did you make it to the mission?
"Not even a little. Hyacinth was so mad.
Friend, I think she's scared. I mean, I clearly don't know everything about her. But if she's drinking this, she's worried. Worried that our—that her fight might cost her everything."

When you arrive at Echo Pond, you can look around the campsite. You will find a Torn Out Journal Entry:

Tanlorin: "That's Wisteria's handwriting. Hang on to that."

You can find another bottle of Shimmerene Rose sitting on barrel:

Tanlorin: "All right, reach out. Let's see what Wisteria was up to."
<Tanlorin walks over to the remains of a campfire and focuses, a memory of Wisteria sitting by the fire will appear.>
Wisteria: "This is it. There's no going back. Once we make our move, we succeed or die trying."
<Wisteria gets up and walks over to the barrel and takes a swig of the wine.>
Wisteria: "I promised the world for you, Tanlorin. That starts today with the head of the Proxy Queen."
<The memory ends.>
Tanlorin: "Auri-El! Did she just say they're going to kill the Proxy Queen of Alinor?"

Speak with Tanlorin about this revelation:

"The Proxy Queen! Wisteria you … all right. Focus. To take on the Proxy Queen of Alinor, she'd need an army. That's why the Ceythalmor are gathering at Dusk Keep.
They're consolidating their forces for one final mission. We have to stop them!"
We still don't know where Dusk Keep is.
"We don't know where it is, but we do know Wisteria will be there. Gods help me, I have an idea. I pulled on our connection to see memories of her past, right?
What if I try to push on that connection and use it to open a portal straight to her?"
You can do that?
"That's a reasonable question. Won't know until I try! But first, let's go to the greenhouse. Hyacinth and the Gardener have connections to Wisteria, too.
If I can tangle us all together and really push, maybe I can get us directly into Dusk Keep."
Met the Proxy Queen Previously:
Otherwise:
Before we go, I have some history with the Proxy Queen. She might listen to me.
"That's a casual way to drop that into the conversation. You have some history with Proxy Queen Alwinarwe? Friend, you are a never ending fountain of surprises.
If you know her, then you know how much we absolutely cannot let her get assassinated!"
Right. Let's go find Hyacinth and the Gardener.
"I know my idea is strange. But what I felt as I manifested those memories was so strong. Strong, like the bond we share. Like the bond I shared with Wisteria.
We can use that. I know it. Let's get to the greenhouse and I'll prove it."
(?)

Before you leave, you can ask Tanlorin several questions:

Can I ask you a few questions?
"All right, as long as we're quick. The Proxy Queen! I still can't believe Wisteria plans to kill her."
Do you want a look at that journal entry I found near Echo Pond?
"Let me see … oh. Heh. I remember that night. I wanted to warm my hands by the fire, but I didn't want Wisteria to see me shaking. I really wanted her to like me. I was so nervous.
She's usually so perceptive, but she completely misread me."
What do you mean?
"When I was oustered, my friends tried to be supportive. They said that I was strong. That I'd survive without my family. Find joy despite them.
But not Wisteria. She called my dream of changing the world childish. She was nothing if not honest."
She was honest by calling your dream childish?
"She was trying, in her own Wisteria way, to say that I had to fight for what I wanted. That I was oustered for not being strong enough. That I still needed to grow up.
I spent every day after that trying to keep up with her. Until I met you."
Why do you think the Ceythalmor are targeting the Proxy Queen?
"Queen Ayrenn leads the Dominion, of course. And personally, I think she's amazing.
But understand, for Summerset, the Proxy Queen is a far more public royal face. If she's killed, and the Ceythalmor have someone lined up to take her place …."
You think their goal is to replace the Proxy Queen with one of their own?
"If the Ceythalmor truly want to change the world, an Aldmeri Dominion civil war would be a great place to start.
The Eyes of the Queen fighting Ceythalmor in the streets of Alinor. Cyrodiil forces under the eagle banner struck from behind?"
I'm glad we talked about this. (Appears when you ask one of the above questions and will progress the quest.)

You can then head to Hyacinth's Greenhouse where Hyacinth and the Gardener will be talking, Tanlorin will burst in with the news:

Tanlorin: "Gardener! Hyacinth! We know Wisteria's plan! And I know how to get to her. But we need your help!"
Hyacinth: "Bogcup? Calm yourself and start from the beginning."
Tanlorin: "No time! I need to focus. My friend can explain everything."

If you talk to Tanlorin before the Gardener:

"I have no idea how taxing this will be. But given that I've never done anything like this before, I'm guessing it won't be easy. I'm going to focus, gather my strength.
You talk to the Gardener while I get ready."

You can then explain the Ceythalmor's plan to the Gardener and Tanlorin's idea to reach Wisteria. He will agree to it, and then asks Tanlorin what they need:

The Gardener: "All right, Bogcup. What would you have us do?"
<Blue magic gathers around Tanlorin.>
Tanlorin: "Everyone think about Wisteria. Strengthen my connection. I'll push out and bridge the space between us."
<Hyacinth and the Gardener join and the blue magic spreads to them.>
Tanlorin: "It's working! Friend, reach out with us. Dusk Keep, here we come!"

At this, you can interact with the magic the center of the ring, and you will find yourself teleported inside Dusk Keep with Tanlorin at your side:

"I feel like I got hit by a speeding carriage. But it worked. This must be Dusk Keep. I can sense Wisteria, somewhere nearby. Too bad there wasn't enough energy to bring Hyacinth and the Garderner with us.
Are you ready to cut down some Ceythalmor?"

While in the Dusk Keep, you will have to make your way through Ceythalor agents while searching for Wisteria. Along the way your find The Strike on Alinor on a small table. After reading it, Tanlorin will urge you to hurry:

Tanlorin: "We're running out of time. We have to hurry!"

When you enter the Dusk Keep Great Hall, you will have to defeat Interrogator Anorel before you can reach the Ceythalmor Inner Chamber and catch up to Wisteria. She will be behind a wall of ice and magic, and is accompanied by a Ceythalmor Captain. On the other side of the barrier, there is magical apparatus made up of 5 blue crystals:

Wisteria: "Tanlorin? I knew you'd find me. But you're too late."
<Tanlorin runs up to the barrier.>
Wisteria: "Just stand back, spitfire. Let me change the world. For us."
Tanlorin: "This isn't what I want, Wisteria. If you go after the Proxy Queen, I'm coming after you."
Wisteria: "There's that spark! Do what you must, Tan."
Ceythalmor Captain: "We're ready. On your order."
Wisteria: "Go! If you oppose me, Tan, I won't hold back."
<Wisteria and the Ceythalmor Captain use the device to teleport away.>

After this, Tanlorin will focus their efforts on the barrier:

Tanlorin: "I think I can bring this barrier down."
Tanlorin: "Focus, Tan. Just like before. Reach out."
<Tanlorin focuses their power on the barrier and the ice shatters like glass.>
Tanlorin: "Their ritual, it's still active!"
Tanlorin: "Just use the ritual foci to get the magic flowing again."

Speaking with Tanlorin at this point:

"She's really going to make me do this.
Maybe we can follow them using their own ritual. Let's see what we can do."

You can activate the four directional ritual foci and they will glow and blue magic will run between them as they are activated. The last step will be to activate the primary ritual foci:

Tanlorin: "No turning back, friend. Let's go cause some trouble."

Once this is done, you and Talorin will be teleported into the Alinor Royal Palace and you will find the throne room covered in ice and several bodies scattered around. Wisteria will be channeling magic against the red magic barrier which protects Proxy Queen Alwinarwe and her remaining guards. Tanlorin will call out to Wisteria:

Tanlorin: "Wisteria! It's over. Give this up. Please."
<Wisteria turns around and some Ceythalmor join her.>
Wisteria: "Never. It's you and me, Tanlorin. To the very end."

Speaking with Tanlorin before the fight:

"Don't hold back. Not for me. We have to stop Wisteria."

During the fight, Wisteria will use her frost magic and Ceythalmor reinforcements will join in. Once Wisteria has been slain, Tanlorin will quietly comment:

Tanlorin: "It's over. She's dead."
<The barrier protecting the Proxy Queen disappears and she walks down the stairs as her guards fan out.>
Proxy Queen Alwinarwe: "We appreciate your aid, but will someone please tell us what in Oblivion is going on?"

You can then talk to Tanlorin before you continue and see how they are holding up:

"Wisteria is dead. Despite everything she did. All the pain she caused. It still hurts.
Oleander. Snapdragon. Gladiolus. Was it worth it? All those lives. I wish I could ask her."
Are you all right?
"I can still feel her. The connection is fading, but still there. When we first arrived, she was like a storm beating against the inside of my skull. Anger. Frustration. Fear. Now, she's a breeze. A whisper in my ear.
And now, she's gone."
I'm sorry, Tanlorin.
"I'm not going to waste time wondering what might have been. If this is how she wanted to change the world, we never had a future to begin with.
Friend, hey, look. We won. The Proxy Queen is alive. Let's try to take joy in that."
You're right.

Tanlorin then awkwardly introduces themselves to the Proxy Queen:

<Tanlorin walks before the stairs and bows.>
Tanlorin: "Your majesty. Hello. I'm an admirer. Sorry about the mess."
<A portal then opens nearby and the Gardener walks out of it.>
The Gardener: "I see I'm just in time. Bogcup, well done. Hello, my dear niece. Don't I always say that your uncle has your best interests at heart?"
Proxy Queen Alwinarwe: "Uncle? We should have known you had a hand in this."
The Gardener: "I'll answer all your questions, I promise. But first I must tend to my associates."
Proxy Queen Alwinarwe: "We shall allow it. But we insist you return as soon as possible."
The Gardener: "Of course. Bogcup, would you and your friend care to accompany me back to the greenhouse?"
Tanlorin: "You don't have to tell me twice. Let's go."

You have the option of talking to Proxy Queen Alwinarwe before leave. If you talk to Tanlorin, they will stuck on the family connection between the Gardener and the Proxy Queen:

"The Gardener is the Proxy Queen's uncle? That certainly clarifies some things. But it also raises even more questions!"

Entering the portal, you will find yourselves in the Gardener's Greenhouse and Tanlorin will greet Hyacinth:

Tanlorin: "Hyacinth! Look, we're alive!"
Hyacinth: "Yes. I can see that. I presume everything turned out well?"
The Gardener: "Most extraordinary! Bogcup and their friend stopped Wisteria and saved the Proxy Queen."
Tanlorin: "After everything we've been through, can we stop with the flower names. Why am I a Bogcup, anyway?"
The Gardener: "Oh, Bog—Tanlorin. The name was never meant as an insult. The bogcup blossom flourishes in the harshest of environments. Just like you."
Tanlorin: "Oh, that's … that's sweet, actually. Thank you."

Speaking with Tanlorin before the Gardener:

"Everyone else got such nice code names. Hyacinth, Oleander, Snapdragon? Come on, Bogcup? It never felt like me.
But, I guess, I am kind of a flower that blossoms in harsh environments. Heh. What a strange old man."

Talking with the Gardener, he will explain the Proxy Queen's idea to fold the Garland Ring into her court to continue their work for the Aldmeri Dominion. He will then want you to participate in ceremony to honor the lost. You can then pick up the Bouquet of Ceremonial Flowers. Speaking to Talorin during this:

"Oleander. Snapdragon. Gladiolus. Even you, Wisteria. I'll never forget you. Any of you."

With the flowers in hand the Gardener will have you burn them in a nearby brazier as he says a few words and you can speak with Tanlorin afterwards. They will have overheard the Gardener talk about the new direction of the Garland Ring:

"I heard. The Ring becomes a part of the Proxy Queen's court, huh?
The Proxy Queen is no Ceythalmor, but royalty have their own particular ideas of what constitutes justice. I think … I think I say, no thank you."
No thank you to what?
"The Garland Ring saved my life. The Gardener, Hyacinth. Wisteria. They accepted me when no one else would.
But if the group is changing, I think it's time I change, too. Bogcup needed the Garland Ring. Tanlorin doesn't."
What will you do now?
"Well, that's the thing? I have this friend. And they're quite the adventurer.
There are Daedric realms we haven't seen. Dungeons to pilfer. There's so much of the world left to explore. Whole continents, even. And I'd love to see them. With you."
Well all right then.

Leaving and returning to the conversation at this point:

"I was so lost after being oustered. The Garland Ring saved my life. And I'll be forever grateful.
But now, friend, it's time to travel. There's so much of the world still to see! And I want to see it with you!"
All right then.
"Wisteria did everything she could to defeat us. She killed agents, tortured friends. She broke my heart. But thanks to you, I had the strength to face her. To stop the Ceythalmor plot.
As long as we're together, I'm ready for whatever comes next."

At the completion of the quest, Tanlorin will talk to the Gardener and formally resign from the Garland Ring:

Tanlorin: "Gardener, I understand what you're doing. But I think my time with the Garland Ring has come to an end. It's been an honor."
The Gardener: "Tanlorin, the honor was all mine. Of course, you should do what you think is right for you. I wish you only the best."
Hyacinth: "Do not forget us, Tanlorin. Though I suppose that is highly unlikely. I am quite memorable. Do come visit when you can."
Tanlorin: "Oh I will. I'll still drag you out to get drinks every now and then, Hyacinth. Thank you. Both of you."

Speaking with Tanlorin before leaving the Greenhouse:

"Look at us. Just two part-time do-gooders. Hunting spies, saving queens. We could make a decent living of this.
Hey, I know I've called you a friend from the moment we met. But I mean it. You might even be my best friend. Just don't tell Hyacinth."
Will you miss being part of the Garland Ring?
"Maybe. Probably. I've made incredible memories with the Ring. And drowned away an equal number of sorrows drinking with them.
Traitorous lovers and assassinations aside, I think we did some good."
What's next?
"I'm going to work on my brooding. Maybe flirt around. Most of all, I want to keep adventuring with you. See the rest of what Tamriel has to offer.
Check out all those Daedric realms. Maybe even an Aedric one, if you're up to it. Just say the word."

"I've definitely got some notes, but maybe we see how things go for a while?" "I thought we had more in common, but I'm struggling to remember what." "Sometimes I wonder if I would've been better off stuck in that ice trap. Does that answer your question?"
Let's talk about something else. (Returns to Greetings)
Tell me something about yourself.
"Some people think magicka is something that needs to be controlled, but I say they're wrong. Magicka is just as much a part of this world as we are. You have to respect it. It can shape you as much as you can shape it."
"Being the child of powerful mages, they really instilled in me a fear of Daedra. I don't know if they predicted I'd fight them as much as I do now? But they sure did prepare me for it."
"I love picking locks! All that treasure! And the only thing between me and the coins are these tiny little mechanisms? Look, it's the closest I'll get to enjoying puzzles."
"I don't know the first thing about wine, but the second I'm feeling flirty, I pretend to have an encyclopedic knowledge. I just can't stop myself from digging a wine barrel sized hole every time."
"It's not that I find books boring, it's more that they were all I had growing up. I wasn't exactly the pride of my family and they thought whatever was wrong with me could be fixed through rigorous study. So no books for me, thanks."
"I used to read Maormer stories that made them out to be swashbuckling adventurers. Even dreamed about sailing the seas like them. Never meet your idols. I've seen the harm they can cause first hand. No thank you."
"Have you ever looked into the eyes of an indrik? There's so much love in those little black eyes. If I ever saw anyone hurt one, I think I'd go feral. I'd start biting!"
"Some kids get really into horses or dragons, but me? Gryphons. I see a gryphon flying around? Full stop. Staring, probably crying a little. Beautiful creatures."
"I try to avoid most magical institutions. I just don't think they have our best interests in mind, you know? I've had my fair share of curious mages try to solve.. well. Me. Like I'm a puzzle, not a person."
"Magic might not be my strong suit, but alchemy? It's like second nature. Flowers just show you who they are, you know? Every bloom, ever [sic] petal, it's screaming. This is me! Take it or leave it! I respect that."
Let's talk about something else. (Returns to Greetings)

Responses[edit]

As a companion, Tanlorin will remark on various situations encountered during your travels.

After being summoned:

  • "Now we're talking."
  • "You know, my ears were burning."
  • "Where to first?"
  • "I missed that twinkle in your eye."
  • "I knew you were thinking about me."
  • "Troublemakers, ready to cause trouble!"
  • "Always ready to jump in."
  • "Hey! Let's get a move on."
  • "Let's go, let's go, let's go!"
  • "Hey! What's going on?"
  • "Let's cause some trouble."

When Tanlorin levels up:

  • "I've still got room to grow."
  • "I didn't think I could get any better."
  • "Nothing will hold me back!"

When you level up or gain a Champion Point:

  • "You're a natural."
  • "I'll drink to that!"
  • "You just keep growing."
  • "Never hurts to learn something new."
  • "Nothing can stop you."

When idling:

  • "I'm not much of a reader, but I love quirky adventure novels. Have you read the one about the pirate captain who searches for her long lost love? It turns out that Nirn is hollow! It's bad but so good! I should have a copy in my pack somewhere."
  • "I should probably mention that sometimes I walk around in my sleep. It's really important that you don't try to wake me up, especially if my tattoos are glowing. If you do, well. You know what? It's been ages. Probably nothing to worry about."
  • "You ever wonder what your flower name would be? I've thought about it a lot. I've narrowed it down to three. Aster if you're leaning towards spellslinging. Thistle if you're feeling brawny. Or Foxglove if you like sneaking around."
  • "Silence is nice. I definitely respect silence. It's calming, right? That's what people say? I've never found it calming. I sort of dread it. Not that we can't sit silently. We can absolutely sit silently. Just like this. Silent. Totally. Silent."
  • "(Popping sounds)."
  • "Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever tried flirting with the Daedric Princes? I think there's a good chance some of them would mellow out if they got just a little kiss on the head. Just an idea."
  • "Even after everything she put me through. I sometimes see a breathtaking sight or a feat of magic and think of my mom. Strange, isn't it? How a person can break you down to nothing, but still leave you feeling grateful."

When getting on a mount:

  • "You lead and I'll follow!"
  • "Race you there?"
  • "Who's a good mount?"
  • "Love the wind in my hair."
  • "Who's a pretty mount? You are!"
  • "Giddy up!"
  • "Here we go! Hah!"

  • "Nothing will hold me back!"
  • "This shouldn't take long."
  • "Let's shown them what we've got."
  • "Cute. You think you'll win."
  • "You're going to regret this."
  • "Just what I needed."
  • "Give it your all!"
  • "(Excited laughter)."
  • "Let's teach them a lesson."
  • "Please be a challenge, please be a challenge."
  • "Let's show'em what we're made of."
  • "Time to knock some heads."
  • "Be warned, I fight dirty."
  • "Cut them down!"
  • "Stay on your toes!"
  • "Let's make some noise."
  • "Let me at em!"
  • "We've got this."
  • "Don't hold back!"
  • "Hey, you asked for this."

When ending combat:

  • "That was fun!"
  • "That's it?"
  • "Done. But don't let your guard down."
  • "I was just getting started."
  • "Barely broke a sweat."
  • "Just when I hit my stride."
  • "Almost dozed off there."
  • "Let's do this again some time."
  • "Give me. A second."
  • "Thanks, I needed a stretch."
  • "Could've been worse."

  • "Stay with me, friend!"

When you use an ultimate:

Furnishing[edit]

Some may call Tanlorin a rabble-rouser or rapscallion. They much prefer being called a friend. After adding Tanlorin to your home, you can set them on a path to wander. You can also speak with them. But be warned, they're a bit of a talker.
Tanlorin
Furnishing
Type Houseguest
Acquired From Obtained by completing quest "Of Crown and Flowers."

You will earn the ability to have Tanlorin as a houseguest once you've completed Of Crown and Flowers.

Houseguest Dialogue[edit]

When placed within your home, they will say one of the following lines when spoken to. They are a combination of lines heard from their environmental voice-overs and unique lines:

  • "Not only was my mother a skilled mage, but she was a celebrated architect. I used to fawn over her worktable trying to decipher her drawings. Was it a palatial dome or an arcane circle? She'd never say. Just said one day I'd learn."
  • "A friend of mine, Hyacinth, once described for me in excruciating detail how lopsided my gait was. So, I started glueing thin bits of leather to one of his boots. Took him months to realize it."
  • "A while back, I tried my hand at being a bard. Even wrote a few songs of my own about a magical indrik maybe, sort of based on Queen Ayrenn. Unrelated. I am no longer allowed to bring a lute into any tavern in Reaper's March."
  • "You know, I almost joined the House of Reveries. I was young and depressed and thought I could hide my shame behind a mask. Then a troupe member named Alchemy set me straight. She said there was still room in my pot to grow."
  • "You should see the sorts of little machines my friend Hyacinth builds. Hummingbirds that can pick locks. Snakes that turn into impromptu lamps. He likes to say he hates whimsy, but come on, seriously?"
  • "You ever really try to get a nickname to stick? Most of my friends call me Bogcup which, let me tell you, does not impress the ladies. A friend once called me Spitfire, almost as a joke. I'd always hoped it would catch on."
  • "One time, just because I felt like it, I broke into the Alinor Archeological Society to steal back a Khajiiti relic. This beautiful idol carved from an enormous chunk of moonstone. You should try it sometime. Very cathartic."
  • "My tattoos were meant to lock away my magical abilities. For years I hated my mother for carving these runes into me. Now, I can't help but smile every time I chip away at these seals. Every new spell I learn proves her wrong."
  • "Not only am I at my most peaceful in a garden, but I once fell asleep in a rose bush while hiding from guards. Must have slept through two rotations without getting caught. Best sleep I'd had in ages."'
  • "There's a member of the Ring, Verbena, who is assigned to keep an eye on M'aiq the Liar. No idea why. All I know is that her discretionary budget is huge and it's mostly spent on wine. Says it helps keep the cat talking."
  • "Not sure if you'll ever get a chance to meet Yarrow, but he's an amazing healer. Says it's on the account of his family helping treat the Thrassian Plague. From scrapes to boils, he's your guy."
  • "The Garland Ring has hideouts all over the Aldmeri Dominion. Caves, churches, basements. One was in a haunted Ayleid ruin! We had a member named Marigold whose whole job was to help those ghosts move on."
  • "I'll admit that I'm about as gentle as a gryphon in an antiques shop, but here's the thing. I decided a long time ago that I don't need to be delicate. Refined. Controlled. And I'm happier for it. Life is better when you let things get messy."
  • "Have you ever met an ouster? A Hulkynd? High Elves like to think that we all deserved our exile, but some of us? The only crimes we ever committed were failing to meet our parent's expectations. Does that seem fair to you?"
  • "Summerset society was built on high ideals, a grand culture. So many twist that for their own gain. And if we stay complacent, we just feed that corruption. If we want a better future for the Dominion, for Tamriel, we all have to fight for it."
  • "I like to think I'm good at alchemy, but apparently I'm not make your own soap good at alchemy. At least, that's what my friends say. The friends who organized an intervention to explain how badly I smelled."
  • "How are you supposed to learn things about wine? Are there classes for that sort of thing? I just swish it around in my mouth while I wait for others to share their thoughts. Then I just agree with them."
  • "I'm a bit of a sucker for grand romantic gestures. I once dated a woman who didn't know what kind of wine I liked so she bought one of everything, just to be safe. Said we'd get to know each other while we worked our way through them."
  • "The first time I learned how to breathe fire was when I was trying to blow the candles out on my birthday cake. It would've been funny if it weren't for the fact I also burned off my friend's eyebrows."

Appears when player character has completed Of Crown and Flowers:{[verification needed — see talk page]

  • "I went back and visited the city where Wisteria grew up. Shimmerene. Gorgeous, of course. You'd be hard pressed to find a dull view anywhere in Summerset. Spent the whole night exploring, wondering which window little Wisteria used to dream out of."
  • "Something's been bugging me. If the Gardener is the Proxy Queen's uncle and Queen Ayrenn is the Proxy Queen's cousin, you don't think …? No. There's no way."

For Your Eyes Only

I don't often find myself at a loss for words, but this letter? This was difficult.

You've seen me at my worst. Stood by me as my world fell to pieces. I've wondered how much I could've changed if I'd just told Wisteria what I wanted? Could there have been a different path for us?

I don't know, but I do know that when you find someone worth cherishing, you best cherish them while you can. To that end, I nicked something from Hyacinth for you. A delicate, mechanical hummingbird with a tongue that can pick any lock. As beautiful as it is useful. I hope you think of me when you use it, because, if I'm being honest, I'll probably be thinking of you.

Your friend,
-Tanlorin
