The Symphony of Blades in Depths of Malatar

The Symphony of Blades is the final boss of the Depths of Malatar. It is King Narilmor transformed into an avatar of Meridia's power, in the image of an Auroran suit of armor with four arms wielding blades. In Veteran mode, burning the Dictates of the Lady of Light will trigger hard mode, where it will now summon colored dark orbs.

During the fight, it can summon the four colors of Aurorans to aid itself, which will converge from each corner of the room to join it in the center and empower it. It will also summon the Auroran Phalanx, a formation of Aurorans that march with Meridia's Light at their side and will empower the Symphony of Blades if they cross paths.

The Symphony of Blades in the Colored Rooms

After reaching around 10% of its health, the Symphony of Blades will transport you to the Colored Rooms, healing itself back up to 25% of its newly increased maximum health. It can also summon the Auroran Phalanx in the realm, spread up into various groups marching in different paths with three Aurorans in each group.

Related Quests[edit]

Skills and Abilities[edit]

As a boss type enemy, the Symphony of Blades is immune to all crowd control effects.

Singing Blade
A basic melee attack that deals high physical damage.
Dissonant Blow
A charged heavy attack that deals very high physical damage. Block this as the tank or dodge this if you are not.
Blade Dance
The boss spins around, dealing very high physical damage around him as indicated by a red circle. The tank should stand still and absorb it if possible, while the rest of the group avoids it.
Curse Expiry
The boss stabs the ground and an AoE appears around a random target. The target will take moderate magic damage and get stunned in a few moments. This is unavoidable and should be healed through.
Decrepify
The boss stabs the ground. After a few seconds, all players take 50% of their maximum health as Oblivion damage over 5 seconds. At the same time, all healing taken is nullified. Ensure the party is fully healed before this attack lands.
Cowardice Purification
This ability will instantly kill any player that tries to exit the arena when they touch the barriers of light blocking the two exits.

Auroran Phalanx mechanic[edit]

Throughout the fight, the boss will summon Aurorans to attack the group. The group must immediately kill at least one of these to survive the mechanic.

Summon Auroran Phalanx
A line or Aurorans appears on the edge of the arena, and walks slowly across the room. Behind them is a wall of light that will instantly kill anyone who touches it. Kill one of the Aurorans to open a gap in the wall to safely pass through.
Meridia's Light
An instant-kill attack that accompanies the Auroran Phalanx, being triggered if you run into their barrier.

Add Phase[edit]

After a while, the boss will call 4 Aurorans of different colors from each corner of the room. Each Auroran will grant the boss a new ability if they reach him, as listed below.

Meridian Destruction
This ability is similar to the Templar skill Radiant Destruction. The boss will shoot a beam of pure light from his hands at the tank. This ability is powered up if a golden Auroran shade reaches him.
Sunburst
When empowered by a red Auroran shade, the boss will send fire AoEs spiraling everywhere. You should try to avoid these.
Agonizing Bolts
When empowered by a purple Auroran shade, the boss will call down lightning AoEs from the sky that deal more damage if you are hit in succession.
Summon Ice Pillar
When empowered by a blue Auroran shade, the boss will summon ice pillars across the room.

It is advised that the group focus on killing the red Auroran first and also the purple Auroran if possible, as their associated attacks are much more dangerous than the other two.

Execute Phase[edit]

Once the boss reaches 10%, he will teleport the group into Meridia's realm and recover his health to 25%. All mechanics from before reappear with some changes.

  • The Auroran Phalanx is much shorter and broken into many smaller walls than approach from many directions at once. Sidestep around them, as there is no time to kill the Aurorans. Staying near the cliff at the edge of the arena can help you avoid most of the walls entirely.
  • The boss is permanently empowered with all 4 attacks from the 4 colored Aurorans.

Hard Mode[edit]

The following changes appear on hard mode, on top of the boss having more health and dealing more damage.

  • Orbs will appear during the fight and should be destroyed quickly.
  • The 4 colored Aurorans walk much faster towards the boss.
  • The boss recovers to 50% health during execute phase.
  • Every 5 seconds during execute phase, the boss will use Purification, which deals moderate magic damage and is unavoidable. This damage increases over time, so be prepared to heal through it and kill the boss quickly before the damage increases and wipes the group.

Dialogue[edit]

King Narilmor transforms into the Symphony of Blades when you enter the room.

King Narilmor: "For three thousand years I have protected the Wrathstone! I will not fail her now!"

Idling before battle:

"Kneel before me, and I will make you pure."
"Her will is eternal and her reach endless. Submit."
"You may live to serve, or die a pointless death."
"Your lives are hers, as they have always been."

Summoning the Auroran Phalanx:

"Her power is limitless, as are her legions!"
"Aurorans! To me!"
"Warriors of Light! Join me!"

Summoning Aurorans to empower the boss:

"Deliver me her strength!"
"Meridia, lend me your power!"
"By her will, we stand united!"

The boss is empowered by Aurorans:

"Bask in the full spectrum of pain."
"Now you will know despair!"
"I shine in perfect glory!"

Using a fire ability while empowered by the red Auroran:

"Your ashes will be pure, at least."
"Flame is the vengeful weapon of light."
"You will burn in her radiance!"

Using an ice ability when empowered by the blue Auroran:

"There is order in ice. Rigid and pure."
"Water knows how to obey, and blood is its cousin."
"The cold will leech your insolence until you are frozen in eternal supplication."

Using Radiant Oppression while empowered by the gold Auroran:

"The sun warms the righteous, and scorches the worm."
"You will know the sun's fury."
"Her light will strip you of all your failings."

Using a lightning ability while empowered by the purple Auroran:

"Her light will flash from the sky and smite you."
"Her power courses through me!"
"Lightning is the whip she will use to break you!"

Entering Execute Phase in the Colored Rooms:

"You have yet to taste her power! Gaze into the infinite!"

Group wipe:

"Her will, is now your will. Rejoice."
"All must kneel before the Lady of Infinite Energies."
"Supplicants, you will serve for all time."
"The light has seared you clean."
The Symphony of Blades is defeated
"We will find you. Her reach is boundless!"
"There is no escape now. This will be your home or your grave."
"You will be cleansed, do not resist."
"You were blinded by greed, but her light will make you see clearly."
"This is the domain of the Lady of Infinite Energies and I am its guardian."
"However you may try, you cannot resist her."

Notes[edit]

  • Though the official name of the type of Daedra is unknown, Loremaster Leamon Tuttle gave them the nickname "Meridimincers" in jest.
    • Iratan the Lightbringer is another of this type of Daedra called a "Meridian guardian", though he has two arms instead of four, and is smaller.
    • They are mentioned in a Loremaster's Archive, in which Lyranth states that they are "of little concern to the Kyn."
  • They are comparable in appearance to Mournful Aegises and Air Atronachs; its internal mesh name is "TombGuardian_B_MornAeg".
  • "Symphony of Blades" is the name of one of the Mournful Aegis' attacks.

Bugs[edit]

Former bugs, fixed in Patch 4.3.1:

  • Symphony of Blades will now break from being stunned, should all of its summoned Aurorans be defeated.
  • Symphony of Blades will no longer sometimes get stuck in its Radiant Destruction animation and visual effects after the ability has completed.
  • Symphony of Blades will no longer keep you in an endless load screen loop should you fail the encounter
