First Kinlord Sundavar Corelanya was an Altmer nobleman of the Clan Corelanya, and the founder of the Corelanya kingdom at Salas En in Hammerfell.[1]

History[edit]

Summerset Isles[edit]

Little is known of Sundavar Corelanya's life in the Summerset Isles. He was a descendant of Kinlady Valarmil Corela, an early follower of Veloth who chose not to join his exodus to Resdayn. Over the generations, Clan Corelanya grew in strength and influence, but their adherence to Velothi beliefs remained a political liability. In time, Sundavar rose to prominence within the clan and assumed its leadership.[1]

In the years following the Alessian Slave Rebellion of 1E 243,[2] High King Tenalarion faced with the rising power of Men in Cyrodiil that vieved the Mer wtith suspicion and Daedric worship with outright hostility, which led to him imposing a severe ban on Velothi practices. In 1E 522, rather than face the seizure of their holdings and the imprisonment of their leaders, the Corelanyas, under Sundavar's leadership, chose exile. They set sail for the distant shores of Hammerfell, abandoning their ancestral home.[1]

Salas En[edit]

Salas En
"As a noble house with significant commercial interests, the Corelanyas were well acquainted with the isles and coasts beyond Summerset. In the year 1E 522, Sundavar Corelanya sailed to the shores of Hammerfell and founded a kingdom of his own. Taking the title of first kinlord, he established a new capital in the former Ayleid city of Salas En." —History of Clan Corelanya by Regent Karinwe Corelanya[1]
Iniel

As a noble house with deep commercial ties, the Corelanyas were already familiar with the isles and coasts beyond Summerset. Sundavar established a new capital in the ancient Ayleid cidy of Salas En, founding a kingdom of his own. He took the title of First Kinlord and continued to lead the clan in Hammerfell. In the early years of their new kingdom, the Corelanyas flourished. Their merchant vessels plied the Abecean Sea, carrying goods and influence across Tamriel. Though exiles, the kinlords remained diplomatically neutral toward the Summerset crown, while fostering friendly ties with Clan Direnni to the north and conducting prosperous trade with the Bosmeri kingdoms of Valenwood. Eastward, their ships explored the coast as far as Topal Bay and beyond. Strengthened by Daedric patronage and protection, Clan Corelanya thrived in this new homeland.[1] The Ayleid structures of Salas En were not only inhabited by the Corelanyas but also expanded upon.[3]

Although Sundavar's people drew their faith from the teachings of Veloth,[1] the patrons they honored diverged from those of the early Chimer. Like the Chimer, they looked to Azura for insight and understanding, but they also revered Nocturnal as a guardian of secrets and shadow, a silent protector in foreign lands. When strength was needed to stand against their enemies, be they the Giant Goblins of the desert or the zealots of the Alessian Order they turned to Molag Bal, seeking the power to endure and prevail.[4]

Legacy[edit]

The date and circumstances of his death are unknown, but by 1E 667, leadership of the clan had passed to his grandson, Roliondil. With hostile desert tribes barring expansion inland, Sundavar's heirs turned their gaze to the sea. From secret harbors along Cape Shira, Corelanya galleys set forth in search of distant shores and untapped wealth. Among these seafarers, none sailed farther or returned with greater spoils than Sundavar's great-granddaughter, Iniel. It was during Iniel's reign that the isle of Solstice, the future homeland of Clan Corelanya was first discovered. But her era was also marked by loss, as the Corelanya kingdom based in Salas En was brought to ruin. Sundavar features prominently in History of Clan Corelanya, authored by Regent Karinwe, the leader of Clan Corelanya during the Interregnum.[4]
