Interplay[edit]

  • Oct 1983, Interplay Productions founded by Brian Fargo
  • Jan 1988, Wasteland is released
  • Circa 1991, Tim Cain joins Interplay Productions
  • Circa 1994, Fallout begins development
  • Dec 1994, Junktown, Mutants, and Ghouls were imagined for the game.
  • Jan 1995, GURPS Survivors design document is written.
  • Circa 1995, Chris Avellone joins Interplay Productions
  • Sep 1997, Fallout is released

  • Circa 2000-2003, Fallout 3 pen and paper design campaigns take place
    • Designer Chris Avellone runs two separate campaigns set in the same world instance at the same time, actions of one group affects the other, this idea of a rival party progressing as the player character progresses through the main quest is reused for Victor Presper, who would have been the main rival of Fallout 3.
    • These campaigns served a prototyping ground for the game's setting and design documents
