Cannibalism is the act of eating a member of the same kind or species. Cannibalism is somewhat common in nature, often the strong preying upon the weak of their species.[1][2][3] Among sapient beings, the term cannibal is also sometimes used to describe intelligent beings that eat other intelligent beings regardless of species.[4]
Cannibalism of intelligent beings is a taboo in many of the major cultures of Tamriel, with one of the notable exceptions being in Valenwood, where ritual cannibalism is part of the faith of the native Bosmer. Often among the more societally developed races of Tamriel, the consumption of certain primitive or violent races is considered acceptable.[5][6] Inversely, it is common for many members of less developed races to eat members of the more "human" races.[7][8][4][9]
