Generic NPC represents the men and mer of Vvardenfell, Mournhold and Solstheim. Aside from his natural resistance to fire and the sanctuary provided by his ancestors, he knows no spells.
Initially based on Jiub, this page functions as a cheat sheet of sorts, with regards to how the sections and subsections of NPC pages should be displayed. Any changes to the layout, structure or style that deviate from the de facto norm will (and should) be accompanied by a detailed explanation that, hopefully, justifies them.
Related Quests[edit]
Section: Related Quests
- If all the quests share the same faction, theres no need for a (single) subsection.
- Otherwise, group quests into subsections, ordered alphabetically.
- As an exception, Main Quest always goes first.
- Another exception, Miscellaneous always goes last.
- Thieves Guild quests exclude those for the Bal Molagmer.
- Vampiric quests exclude those for the three vampire clans.
Main Quest[edit]
- Report to Caius Cosades: Deliver a package to Caius Cosades in Balmora.
Mages Guild[edit]
- Four Types of Mushrooms: Help Ajira research four different local mushroom species.
Miscellaneous[edit]
- Death of a Taxman: Investigate the murder of a tax collector in Seyda Neen.
- Fargoth's Ring: Return a missing ring and win favor with the owner and his friends.
- Fargoth's Hiding Place: Find out where Fargoth is hiding his money.
Dialogue[edit]
- Greetings:
- "The chairs. The tables. All confused. We hear the words, and must speak them. We take them, and arrange them, but still, they will not be quiet."
- "Everything is wrong. This is not straight. This is too high. This is in my way. We must put them right."
- tables: "Since the Merethic Era, tables have been used to display tabular data. In the second era, however, some mages misappropriated them to layout non-tabular content. They typically use an invisibility enchantment, which causes problems for mortals with narrow viewports. I fix these problems when I can."
- when I can: "I ply my trade by day. An NPC has to eat."
Spells[edit]
Section: Spells
- Spells should always appear before Wares, where applicable.
- No more custom notes; use {{Spell Merchant Note}} to be consistent across all spell merchants.
- Do not add
style=text-align:left
to the table; it is unnecessary.
Generic NPC has the following spells for sale:
Spell Name | Cost | Effects | |
---|---|---|---|
Restoration | |||
Ogrul's Lucky Again | 1 | Restore Luck 10 pts on Self | |
Ogrul's Quick Again | 1 | Restore Speed 10 pts on Self | |
Ogrul's Staunch Again | 1 | Restore Willpower 10 pts on Self | |
Ogrul's Strong-Again | 1 | Restore Strength 10 pts on Self |
Wares[edit]
Section: Wares
- No more custom notes; either use {{Wares Notes}} or none at all, whichever is applicable.
- No more custom tables; use the templates under {{MW Wares}} for better side-by-side tables, which stack properly on the app and the mobile site.
- Wares sections follow this order: A, W, C, I, P, B, a, R, T, Others. See Merchants page for details.
- All sections should start with a header. Add a (cont.) suffix if the section continues into the next table.
- For all sections, use {{ThickLine}} to divide subsections; if applicable, leveled lists are always the last subsection.
- For all subsections, the items should be sorted in alphabetical order.
- For ( A ) and ( W ), both base and magic items
- For ( C ), order subsections by quality, from common to exquisite, then magic. Also, header should be Clothing, not Clothes.
- For ( I ), header should only be Ingredients, never Food, which has no meaningful distinction.
- For ( P ), order subsections by quality, starting with spoiled, then from bargain to exclusive, then regular potions, then drinks. Also, header should be Potions, Drinks or Potions & Drinks, whichever is applicable.
- For ( B ), order subsections starting with books, then scrolls, then paper. Also, header should be Books, Scrolls or Books & Scrolls, whichever is applicable.
- For ( T ), order subsections by quality, from apprentice to secret master. Header should be Thieves' Tools; note the apostrophe.
- For ( a ), order subsections by quality, from apprentice to secret master. Header should be Apparatus, not Alchemy/ical Items/Tools.
- For ( R ), there will be no subsections since there is only one tool for each quality level. Header should be Repair Items, not Repair Tools
- For Others, order subsections starting with propylon indices, then soul gems, then lights, then clutter. Header should not be Miscellaneous Items, which has a very specific meaning.
- Negative numbers indicate restocking items.
- Items with a % in the Qty column are found growing on plants in the store, which will restock over time, not instantly like other restocking wares.
- Items in italics are equipped, and can be purchased if you sell him something better first. (If there is more than one, you may be able to purchase the others.)
- Items in bold are Leveled Lists. Click on them to learn more about what they may contain.

Bugs[edit]
Section: Bugs & Notes
- Bugs should always be the last section; second-last, if there are Notes
- As much as possible, all entries should use {{Bug}} and be independently confirmed by other contributors.
- Notes should always be the last section.
- These are typically trivial information that have the least game-related usefulness.
- Use {{MW Ancestral Tomb Note}} and {{MW Ashlander Note}}
- When you give him a Divine Intervention Scroll, he will disappear and give you a grand soul gem as well as a Reputation point. However, the dialogue is not ended; you can keep giving him more scrolls, thereby acquiring a potentially endless supply of grand soul gems, limited only by the number of scrolls you can carry at once.
- OpenMW fixes this bug.
Notes[edit]
- Generic NPC belongs to the Urshilaku family, which has their own ancestral tomb.
- As a member of the Generic Tribe, killing him will anger the tribe and prevent you from completing the Generic Nerevarine quest, a required part of the main quest.
- He also appears as a card in Legends.
