The latest news about Oblivion possibly getting new content...[edit]

I'm not much for editing these things so I'll add this to the discussion page and hopefully someone who does this regularly will see it. Someone would probably just have to some along and clean up my mess anyway.

Here's what Gstaff (Bethesda employee) had to say about it in a topic on the official forums.

Hi there To clarify, we don't have any plans for new content for Oblivion, but like Pete said, there are some plans to do something with Oblivion. When I have more information, I'll share it with you guys.

http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?s=&showtopic=977563&view=findpost&p=14139678

Something could be anything. For instance, the half off DLC promotion we did a few weeks ago was something. There's nothing in the interview that points to new DLC -- Fighter's Stronghold was the last one. Sorry if we got your hopes up.

Elder Scrolls Novel[edit]

So if a novel of the Elder Scrolls is released, will the full details of the novel (character, setting, plot etc.) be documented on the wiki, or will it be treated more as fan fiction?--81.158.56.153 15:10, 27 April 2009 (EDT)

If it's supported by Bethesda, then it's canon. We will obviously not be hosting the text, but quotes should count as "fair use" for expanding articles. –RpehTCE 15:12, 27 April 2009 (EDT)

Announce when the games are on sale on Steam?[edit]

As I post this Morrowind is on sale for $4.99, and all Bethesda games until the 3rd are discounted.

By the time it gets added to the main page, the sale will probably have passed, but it may be worth noting. -Nesskid 00:07, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Misnamed news?[edit]

I'm not sure if I misread the article but the title of the latest news (June 3rd 2010) seems to be inaccurate, as the article does not confirm that there will be no news at E3. Or maybe I am just being pedantic! --Kvaener 17:55, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I messed up when I posted it but Krusty fixed the title and it's fine now. rpeh •TCE 17:58, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Help[edit]

I'd like to contribute to the news page but I'm not sure how to add an article. If someone could explain it to me I would appreciate it. Manbearpig 18:21, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Just take a look at one of the current news articles for an example. For instance, UESPWiki:News/TES V Game Engine. You'd create a new article with "TES V Game Engine" replaced with the title of your proposed article. The date is formatted in a specific way, so be sure to look at the way it's done on the example I provided. Also, don't forget the <div> tags that are placed between the title and the body, and also at the end. Once your article is created, edit UESPWiki:News#Proposed News and add a bulleted link to your article. Then, an administrator will review your article and determine whether or not to include it on the Main Page. --GKtalk2me 20:18, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Screenshots[edit]

Some TES V Screenies. Do these warrant a place on the news page?--86.143.111.196 01:17, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

I'd prefer some half-competent scans instead of those, and Bethesda has made it clear (on their forums) that that will not look kindly upon those linking to such images. I'll leave this one up to the admins and Daveh. rpeh •TCE 01:41, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Let's wait a bit and see what comes next - those scans are too lousy, but contains a wealth of interesting facts; to be honest we can start creating some pages based on these scans alone. As for copyrights, I have no idea. --Krusty 01:45, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Thinking about this, those screenshots are clearly violations of copyright, so we can't host them. Most of the text is written by Gameinformer staff, so that's copyright too, and we can't use that either. Information such as the next game definitely being 200 years after Oblivion, or that Max von Sydow voices the last-surviving Blade (I thought he'd be a Greybeard!) is okay, but don't use direct quotes. rpeh •TCE 02:09, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

I agree with Krusty that at least the Skyrim page should be made now. --Arch-Mage Matt Did I Do That? 18:33, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
The name space does exist. GK has a sandbox (9 i think) with a proposed header page for Skyrim. - Emoboy64 18:35, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
TAO also works in the article in one of his personal sandboxes. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 18:44, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Well, it's probably time to start making the Skyrim pages then. This page should ideally only be a place to post information on the settings/plots of future TES games (in my opinion, most gameplay elements are not relevant to this page). Many websites have now begun to do write-ups of the main points discussed in the recent gameinformer issue (see here for example). As you can see, almost all of the things discussed on these online write-ups are based around gameplay rather than the setting/plot, so a new section is desirable. This would also allow us to categorise emerging details rather than overload one or two pages with a bit too much info.--Tovenam 17:11, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

More news?[edit]

An article detailing the new 'Dragon Shouts':

[1]

--Tovenam 00:24, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

No. The escapist is reliable for Yahtzee and that's all. rpeh •TCE 01:28, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
“There are several characters that can use dragon shouts, but this phenomenon is very rare. You are the only one that can absorb the souls of dragons and get new shouts. There is a total of about twenty, which grow stronger the more you kill dragons.” -- Todd Howard.
So we know that at least some of the info is genuine.--Tovenam 01:33, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Still no proper link, I see. And individual pieces of game mechanics aren't news-worthy. rpeh •TCE 01:39, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Sorry for the late reply. I just checked the TES:V article on Wikipedia and it was using two sources (see here). One of them was the Game Informer article (which I do not have access to so I cannot verify it) and the other was from a website called 'Gamegasm'. I do think that this info deserves a mention somewhere on the wiki.--Tovenam 23:15, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
Update: As posted by Western3589 under proposed news, this article gives a lot of background info on the shouts. It now seems that they are a big enough deal to be put on the main page.--Tovenam 13:34, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
I still don't see this as important enough for the main page. I've added the salient details to the Dragon Language and Dragon Alphabet pages. rpeh •TCE 13:55, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
It's good that this new info is now documented on the wiki, but I still think that this article is news worthy. The dragon shouts stand out from the other game mechanics announced so far (the gameinformer article states: "Dragonborn and the shouts they employ stand at the center of the Skyrim game experience"), and the article also gives a bit of info on the development and the lore of the game.--Tovenam 14:12, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
I haven't seen any mention of this yet but, Gameinformer now has a new article, and this contains a video, so I thought it might be worth mentioning on the main page this time, or at least I put it here so people can check it out: The Art of Skyrim: http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/01/26/the-art-of-skyrim.aspx ~ Dwarfmp 00:14, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
In my opinion, it is time to stop putting things on the main page and just put things on the Skyrim:Skyrim page, with maybe a Skyrim link on the main page. --Arch-Mage Matt Did I Do That? 00:17, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

() Agreed, if all the Skyrim news like this goes on the main page, it'll be crazy and updated every week. Maybe the more "major" news related to it should go on it. I don't think it should go on the Skyrim page however, maybe a Skyrim news page perhaps? Just some ideas anyway - Emoboy64 00:22, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

I was thinking about that too, putting links of the articles on the bottom of the Skyrim page. That way all of the articles can be added, instead of discussing whether an article is good enough for the main page. At this time, I wouldn't see any problem adding links to the bottom of the Skyrim page. Although, at the rate they're providing info, who knows how much articles there will be after those 10 months ~ Dwarfmp 00:33, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
Also agreed. The Skyrim page is now open for business so stuff related to the game can go there. The news page can go back to being about actual developments (say, if the game was delayed). rpeh •TCE 09:51, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

April Fools Joke?[edit]

"Redguard" next Skyrim DLC?[edit]

Not sure if this is solid enough to use as news, but it's here if you want it: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news/news-13756-Next-Skyrim-DLC-to-be--Redguard---Trademark-Rears-its-Head-Again.html 65.189.34.199 20:57, 3 January 2013 (GMT)

The DLC names haven't exactly been creative thus far, but I doubt they'd reuse the name "Redguard" when it was already an individual game. Until we get more information, it seems dubious. —Legoless (talk) 21:06, 3 January 2013 (GMT)
Considering they set two DLC's in the same place (Bloodmoon and Dragonborn) in the same exact place, I woldn't be suprised. Only time will tell.--~The wind, forsaken~ (talk) 00:57, 12 March 2013 (GMT)
Moved from Proposed News section.

() I have read that Zenimax Studios filed a patent for the term Redguard, as a downloadable game. If this is in keeping with the pattern the other dlc's for Skyrim had, this will presumably be the next dlc for Skyrim. I apologize if I did not write this in the preferred format, or if this has been mentioned already. 5:21 pm March 10 2013 (Pacific)— Unsigned comment by 98.244.53.118 (talk) at 00:22 on 11 March 2013

They have had this trademark for around two years. They didn't file for a new trademark, they extended their existing ones. It is possible that it is the next DLC, but there is no real evidence to support that. Plus, the extension came over a month ago, it really isn't new at this point. Jeancey (talk) 00:31, 11 March 2013 (GMT)
Not exactly. They've cancelled some trademarks, like for Shadowkey, and they've allowed others to expire, like for Morrowind. With the exception of their most current game, any current game series, and company names, they rarely renew a trademark if they don't have any plans for it. Also, the trademark for Dawnguard wasn't even discovered until a month after the fact, so a late discovery doesn't make it invalid. • JAT 02:06, 11 March 2013 (GMT)
Maybe it's not for Skyrim, but rather for Online; we do know that not all places are gonna be available since the start of the game. Elakyn (talk) 20:07, 11 March 2013 (GMT)
Naw, then we would see trademarks for every major term in online, like imperial, breton, altmer, etc, and we just don't have that. The most likely scenario is a Skyrim DLC, but that isn't for sure. People got all excited when the name Firewatch got leaked for Morrowind, and that turned out to be a tiny tiny add-on. Just because it is trademarked, doesn't mean that's going to be the name, or even the subject of the DLC, and even if it is, it might not be very large. We just don't have enough information at this point. We could just as easily report on the 'leak' that TESVI will be called Dominion and will take place in the Summerset Isles. It's 'possible', maybe even fairly likely, but we just don't know. Jeancey (talk) 20:16, 11 March 2013 (GMT)
Well technically, it would be based in Alinor, because the Thalmor renamed it ;) But we can still run a minor story on this, simply stating that a new trademark has been filed that matches the description of past DLC, because it is for "Computer game software for use with computers and video game consoles; downloadable computer game software offered via the internet and wireless devices", but that it may be related to ESO, because it is also for "Entertainment services, namely, providing on-line interactive computer games and providing information relating to electronic computer games via the internet".
Oh, and a link to the Redguard trademark. • JAT 00:09, 12 March 2013 (GMT)
The online thing doesn't always mean a whole lot. Morrowind was originally filed as "Providing online computer game programs". It could just be that they are double dipping the trademark for the race in online, and a skyrim DLC, or it could mean that they intend for always online DRM type thing. I wouldn't read too much into that. Jeancey (talk) 00:40, 12 March 2013 (GMT)
I didn't say to make any assumptions. Just make a basic news story simply stating that a trademark has been filed, and that it's trademark two things, one of which is identical to other DLC. If no one else does, I'll draft a story later this evening. • JAT 00:52, 12 March 2013 (GMT)

() They also trademarked the "Void Walker's Arsenal" as a DLC wording, and as Silencer pointed out, the Void is the domain of Sithis. They filed it at the same time as a DLC that is clearly for Dishonored, so the question is, did they file TWO dlc trademarks for dishonored, or one for dishonored and one for something else. Jeancey (talk) 00:55, 12 March 2013 (GMT)

I think it should go up as a news item. We are supposed to report news on this website anyway, if it ends up being untrue, so be it. It's not like there's no evidence for this. --~The wind, forsaken~ (talk) 00:57, 12 March 2013 (GMT)
Actually, Jak, how about we just post it on the Social Media sites, since its kinda iffy? Would that work? Jeancey (talk) 00:58, 12 March 2013 (GMT)
Since these things are so popular, could we make an article for trademarks filed by Zenimax that relate to/are very likely related to the TES series? Vely►t►e 01:04, 12 March 2013 (GMT)

ESO DLC announced at E3 2016 after all[edit]

According to game director Matt Firor. Future DLC packs to be smaller, and items currently in the works include an "Argonian Dungeon Pack", a barber shop to customize characters, and player housing. I'm not sure if this should be included as an update to the existing post about Bethesda's E3 '16 announcements (which says no ESO DLC was announced), or if it would be considered a separate piece of news because it occurred after Bethesda's conference. Croaker (talk) 03:17, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

Very weird that they didn't announce it at BE3 and went to IGN instead (damage control?). Seems like Q3 DLC will be Ruins of Mazzatun then. Not sure if we should push it to the front page with so little information though. —Legoless (talk) 03:44, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

ESO data centre power outage[edit]

Might be worthy of news. While I would definitly not post normal server status updates, a whole data centre losing power isn't exactly a normal outage and quite rare. It also has huge impact, even after the tedious process of carefully rebooting everything it remains to be seen if all data is still good. I feel horrid for those who have to work on fixing this. Might be good to wait a bit until it's back up however, to avoid rumors/speculation and be sure all the article can have all the relevant info at once. Updates while ongoing might be best left to the official forum (https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/8235739/). —Cambionn (talk) 11:28, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
