Oblivion Antag[edit]

I think Mehrunes Dagon would be more apt as the main antagonist of Oblivion. He's the final challenge and the events of the game revolve around preventing his emergence. Mindtrait0r (talk) 23:54, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

My line of thinking is that the antagonist is the lead person(s) causing the most active amount of trouble in the storyline; whilst Mehrunes Dagon is indeed the major threat, he is really treated as a background element only alluded to up until the final quest, whereas Mankar Camoran is the guy who's doing all the plotting and scheming to ensure Dagon invades Tamriel. Hence why I have Amiel Richton as the major antagonist for Redguard as opposed to Tiber Septim, Pergan Asuul as opposed to the Shadow of Conflict, and the Ice Tribes (since there is no apparent central leadership) as opposed to the Gehenoth. --Rezalon (talk) 00:14, 17 February 2024 (UTC)

Nice job![edit]

Excellent work! I believe these templates look great, up to date and ready. --KevinM(talk) 19:59, 2 July 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback and the courtesy edit! I still think the formatting could be made a bit tidier, I'll have a play around and see what I can do. After that I'll look into creating a proper page for them. --Rezalon (talk) 23:42, 2 July 2024 (UTC)

Redundancy[edit]

We currently have this template, as well as Template:Lore Major Antagonists. I'm not sure we should keep both, as this is resulting in a second nav template with the same (but less) information being present on all of those pages. The templates could effectively be merged, while still highlighting major antagonists, by having the names of the major antagonists in bold on this template. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 01:03, 5 July 2024 (UTC)

I have to agree. Having these two templates is very messy. While listing off antagonists is important it should only be done for the main ones, we can't be making articles for all of them, at some point its better to just put a template like this in gamespace. Sjoring Hard-Heart as the bad guy of the Fighters Guild isn't on the same level as Dagoth Ur being the biggest threat to Morrowind. At some point we have to draw the line or else one could but the villain of a 3 side quest plotline into this template too. I propose we reorganize it like this
  • Main Series
  • Spin-offs
  • DLCs
This would only list the main antagonists of the games and their respective DLCs. I feel that these are the most notable as well as DLCs usually have bigger stakes in their main quests than plots such as guild questlines do. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 02:19, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
Why not just keep it in lorespace and merge the antagonists template with the major antagonists template so it could be consistent with Template:Lore Heroes. --KevinM(talk) 03:34, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
I agree with merging. I'm not sure why this template was removed on a few pages, but I like it. Just have to keep the scope limited to questlines. ESO is a bit of a problem because there are tons of antagonists if you count each zone questline. For example, Angof the Gravesinger is absent. —Dillonn241 (talk) 07:13, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
I’m with Rims premise of only using the most prominent antagonists from a main questline and the various dlc questlines. This would remove the guild antags as I feel having Dagoth Ur and Carnius Magius on the same list is a large stretch. Some type of perimeters like this would be wise to set otherwise this is just a list about all opposing forces encountered throughout the series which could be almost endless in length.
