Neresa Veran, the Minister of Temple Affairs in Old Ebonheart and wife of the disgraced General Casik

Neresa Veran is a Dark Elf priest, and the Minister of Temple Affairs. In this capacity, she advises the Burgrave, Caros Cocceius on Temple matters, and he values her word highly enough to ban necromancy on her say-so, during the events of Outlandish Heresy. Despite her faith in the Temple, she is under investigation on suspicion of heresy, due in part to her closeness to the Empire, and this is a matter of some upset to her.

Another possible reason for the suspicions the Temple have of her is her marriage to the now-incarcerated General Casik, who is accused of aiding an Argonian ambush during the Arnesian War, in which Morrowind and Black Marsh came to blows. She is close to her bodyguard, Rumus Stannicus, although Rumus will deny any emotional attachment to her beyond a sense of obligation arising from General Casik's fall from grace.

She wears a common robe and a pair of common shoes.

Aside from her natural resistance to fire and the sanctuary provided by her ancestors, she knows the following spells: Absorb Health, Absorb Health (Ranged), Almsivi Intervention, Blightguard, Burden Touch, Detect Creature, Detect Key, Divine Intervention, Enrichment, Feather, Fierce Fire Shield, Fierce Frost Shield, Fierce Shock Shield, Great Heal Companion, Hearth Heal, Mark, Recall, Resist Poison, Resist Shock, Rest of St. Merris, Telekinesis, and Vigor.

Miscellaneous[edit]

  • Belated Justice: General Casik has been languishing in a dungeon for three decades. He still insists that he is innocent.

Dialogue[edit]

  • Greeting:
"Hello there, %PCRace. How may I be of assistance? Is this regarding the Temple?"
"Yes, what is it? Are you here to discuss Temple affairs? If so, I'm afraid I can't do much for you just now."
  • Background:
(If Disposition < 30):
"I am Nerasa Veran, Minister of Temple Affairs."
(If Disposition ≥ 30):
"I am Nerasa Veran, Minister of Temple Affairs, although I haven't been able to attend to my duties recently. A matter of theological dogma, I'm afraid."
(If Disposition ≥ 50):
"I am Nerasa Veran, Minister of Temple Affairs. I serve as a liaison between the Imperial government and the Temple, but I haven't been able to attend to my duties recently. My theological views are not accepted in all quarters. My husband, General Casik, is the former commander of the Legion forces here in Old Ebonheart. I know quite a bit about Temple affairs, if you have questions."
  • Casik:
"Yes, General Casik is my husband. He has dishonored our family by his actions, and it is painful to speak any further of this."
  • Rumus Stannicus:
"Rumus Stannicus is my bodyguard, yes. He makes sure I am free from unwanted guests."
(If Disposition ≥ 30):
"Rumus has been very kind to offer his protection these past thirty years. No, before you ask, there is nothing between us."
(If Disposition ≥ 50):
"Rumus is a tireless protector. After Casik was arrested and imprisoned, Rumus resigned his commission and devoted himself to serving as my bodyguard of sorts. He is one of the only true friends I have left."

Outlandish Heresy[edit]

  • Greetings:
(If you got necromancy banned in Old Ebonheart):
"%PCName! You rat! I haven't received any word from the Temple. My belongings haven't been returned to me. You lied to me, didn't you? I am still an outcast to them, after all I did for them. Please leave." Goodbye (Disposition -100)
  • necromancy is legal in Old Ebonheart:
"Well, well, well... I see how it is. The Temple finally sends a representative to speak with me and it's only to make demands? Indeed, I have the Burgrave's ear and he heeds my advice on every matter pertaining to the Temple. I could persuade him to ban necromancy in the city to improve the Empire's relations with the natives... Yes, I could do that."
  • Continue:
"I have no love for Hastophos Velifer. I would gladly help the Temple to put an end to his heresy. However, I have fallen out of favor with the Temple. It has been that way ever since I took over this office of the minister. The Temple has all but renounced me as if I had turned my back on them. But it's not true. I only wanted to serve the Three by making their will known within the Imperial government."
  • Continue:
"And on top of that the Order of Inquisition is suspecting me of heresy! Me! They say that they suspect me of being one of those Dissident Priests. My assets in my old home of Almalexia have been seized. My books, my scrolls, everything... The Inquisition refuses to give them back to me until that sham of an investigation is over. It's humiliating, %PCName. Before I help to make necromancy illegal in Old Ebonheart, I would appreciate if the Temple first vindicated my honor and returned the seized assets."
  • [Lie] I have the authority to call off the investigation. I will do that if you help.:
"No, I don't believe you. You're just a lackey. Speak with Andor Orothi, the Majordomo of the Crossing in Almas Thirr. He has the authority to tell the Order of Inquistion to end their investigation. Tell him what I want." (Disposition -5)
(If Disposition = 100):
"Thank you so much, %PCName. It feels truly good to be welcomed by the Temple of the Three Living Gods once again!" (Disposition +15)
  • Continue:
"I will hold my end of the bargain, of course. I will write up a motion to make necromancy illegal in the city of Old Ebonheart and present it to the Burgrave personally. I'm quite sure that he wouldn't be comfortable with necromancy being punishable by death, but a hefty fine and the threat of prison are more than enough to make it impossible for Hastophos Velifer to practice his outlandish heresy ever again. I am sure that the Burgrave will do as I suggest. Necromancy has been vanquished in Old Ebonheart!" (Disposition +10)
  • I don't have the authority to call off the investigation.:
"Very well then. Speak with Andor Orothi, the Majordomo of the Crossing in Almas Thirr. He has the authority to tell the Order of Inquistion to end their investigation. I will wait." (Disposition +5)
  • You'll get no favors from me.:
"Then you will get no favors from me either." (Disposition -15)
  • Let me think about this some more.:
"Go ahead and think. Let me know when you're ready to help me, so I can help the Temple."
(If you are at least Master rank in the Tribunal Temple):
  • I'll use my authority to call off the investigation if you help.:
"Thank you so much, %PCName. It feels truly good to be welcomed by the Temple of the Three Living Gods once again!" (Disposition +15)

"Have you reconsidered? Will the Temple vindicate me and return my seized belongings back to me?" (See choices above)
"Come back when you've gotten the confirmation that the Temple will vindicate my name and return my seized assets."
"The Temple has agreed to put an end to the investigation and return my seized assets? Wonderful. It feels truly good to be welcomed by the Temple of the Three once again!" (Disposition +15, see 'Continue' choice and 'I will hold my end...' response above)

Belated Justice[edit]

  • Greetings:
(After finding General Casik innocent):
"It is good to see you again, %PCName. What can I help you with today?"
(After finding General Casik guilty):
"I'm still coming to grips with what happened to Casik. It just seems so unbelievable. Anyway, was there something I could help you with, %PCName?"
(If General Casik is dead):
"Frankly, I'm surprised you have the gall to show your face around here again after what you did, %PCRace. What is it?"
(If Disposition < 30):
"Well, she's Lord General now. Everyone says she's honorable and upright."
(If Disposition ≥ 30):
"My husband spent too much time with the now-Lord General. Victrix showed no loyalty whatsoever to her commander. Rather than attempt to listen to Casik's story, she had him thrown in prison. Such commendable fidelity on the Lord General's part."
  • Casik:
"You're trying to prove my husband's innocence? But -- no, I cannot tell you this. Go on, then, but he has been in prison for thirty years. The case is cold. I doubt you will be able to uncover any fresh evidence that will exonerate him."
(If Disposition ≥ 50):
"You are wasting your time. Casik claims that he is innocent, but I know that he is not. The night before he was arrested, he told me himself that he was guilty of his treasonous plot and that he made up the story about the Daedric doppelganger."
  • I see. If that is the case, your husband deserves to die for his crimes.:
"You see? You cannot save my husband. He is guilty of treachery and betraying his oaths. He has ruined me and our family's name."
  • He told you this the night before he was arrested? What if it was the Daedra who said this?:
"I know my husband. It was his voice that confessed his guilt, his eyes that could not meet mine."
(If Disposition ≥ 80):
"Perhaps -- perhaps you are right, %PCRace. For three decades, I have been certain that my husband committed this act of treason. If it really was a Daedric impersonator, then I have done my husband a great injustice. He was always a man of honor. I -- I wish I knew what to believe."
(After finding General Casik innocent):
"I am amazed that you were able to prove Casik's innocence. He asked me to return with him to the Imperial Province, but I've decided to remain here."
(After finding General Casik guilty):
"After Casik's execution, his body changed to that of a Daedra's! It's all so horrible! How long was he like that, I wonder?"
(If General Casik is dead):
"When you attacked Casik, did you know he was really a Daedra, or were you going to kill an unarmed man? You did us all a service in revealing the truth, but I find your methods sickening." (Disposition -20)
  • property in Nibenay:
"Land in the Imperial Province? Believe me, %PCName, if we had land in Nibenay, I would have moved there to escape the shame my husband has brought on us."
(If Disposition ≥ 30):
"A land deed? From my husband's papers? I'm not sure, but I can see if I've overlooked anything. I think I have some of his papers here. Let me have a look...
I don't believe this! You were right, %PCName, my husband did have a land deed for holdings in the Niben Valley. How strange! Look, it's signed in his hand. I have half a mind to travel there to see the land myself."
  • May I keep the land deed as evidence?:
"No, I don't think so. I'm not going to let this land deed out of my sight."
(If Disposition ≥ 75):
"Well, okay, %PCName. I trust you enough to give you the land deed for safekeeping." (You receive the Nibenay Basin land deed)
  • You should hold onto that deed and keep it safe.:
"Yes, I suppose you're right. Thank you for your concern, %PCName. I'll be sure to keep this land deed safe."
"Yes, it's the strangest thing, this land deed. I cannot imagine where my husband got it."
  • May I have the land deed to use as evidence?:
"No, %PCName, I'm going to hang onto this land deed."
(If Disposition ≥ 75):
"Well, okay, %PCName, I trust you enough. You may present the deed as evidence." (You receive the Nibenay Basin land deed)
  • Keep it safe.:
"Yes, %PCName, I quite agree. Perhaps once I tire of my role here, I can retire to the Niben."
"Yes, I already gave you the land deed. You didn't misplace it, did you, %PCName?"
