Abusing your spouse[edit]

Has anyone tried attacking the spouse (wife) in a fashion it is counted as assault in the game? Why do I get the feeling that it just might not be counted as just an ordinary assault, especially if its done in front of the children?

Voices[edit]

Hey, I went ahead and added voices to the candidate tables as suggested here. If it doesn't get reverted and people think it's a good idea, I can add the wiki/IMDB links like on this page, where I got who's who. 82.8.187.22 00:20, 21 April 2020 (GMT)

Is or isn't it safe to give items to a merchant spouse?[edit]

The article says:

  • You don't need to worry about losing items by placing them in your spouse's inventory because they sold them to someone. Like all merchants in the game, they will actually only sell things to you, and not other people.
  • This inventory is randomized and seems to reset once a day (along with the amount of gold your spouse has to offer).

These seem to contradict each other. Do you need to worry about losing items if you place them in your spouses inventory, or not? The first point says you don't, but if the inventory resets like the second point says, then the answer is 'yes'. --Irrevenant (talk) 06:45, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

Sylgja the seamstress?[edit]

"The "Merchant" column lists only the merchant type for those NPCs who were already merchants prior to marriage." Sylgja is not a merchant prior to marriage, she is a miner, so I removed the store type listed for her ("Clothing"). But is it actually true that she becomes a clothing merchant and not a general merchant after marriage in a vanilla game? Seems unlikely but if it's true it would be worth mentioning. 73.87.137.195 18:56, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

Can confirm she is always General. She once picked up Miraak's Staff from a weapon rack in Hjerim while I was experimenting with a follower and I bought it back from her. Never levelled Speech much during this playthrough either. Mindtrait0r (talk) 23:48, 12 December 2022 (UTC)

The statement "If your spouse has property, you can elect to move in there. Items you place inside their property will not disappear."[edit]

In Sylgja's home, all the barrels and the chest at the end of the bed reset the others appear to be safe. This was using vanilla (unmodded) Legendary and SAE versions. Adsjaldjjfgwetwlla (talk) 03:09, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Spouse store-item categories[edit]

Heya, Wolfborn (and anyone else interested!). I made that edit based on my experience marrying Morwen, as reported on Morwen's talk page https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim_talk:Morwen#Marriage_options as well as the results from my asking on the UESP discord: -- naga007 (XBNA) — 07/07/2024 7:18 AM Unsure about the mods, but if I’m not mistaken an NPC’s store inventory is dependent on the nearby merchant chest. Not exactly how sure that works with spouses, but if you want her old shop inventory, you’ll need to move her out of Lakeview and back to the Skaal Village so she can access her merchant chest.

There’s probably some way to alter the spouse shop inventory but that’s not my expertise --

If Morwen is an outlier based on living in Solstheim, fair enough, though there's a dearth of female blacksmithing spouses (and Orcs can't be asked about the children, so aren't great in the spousal role either). 73.236.244.102 12:01, 13 July 2024 (UTC)

I've added a reply on Discord. The problem is, we now have two contradictory statements one after the other in the article, one saying the spouse keeps the same items they would normally, the other saying they don't. Obviously, this is no good since it will only confuse readers, so we need to investigate this further. Does this apply only to Morwen, perhaps since she's from Solstheim? Does it only happen if the merchant is moved out of their home city? The statement that the spouse keeps their inventory (presumably) came from someone's experience or research, so it's (likely) true at least some of the time; we need to clarify the conditions under which it holds true and when it doesn't.
Unfortunately I'm not in a position to test this in-game myself, which is why I added the [verification needed — see talk page] tag. Hopefully someone with some time and energy will see this and can check this out and clarify this issue. — Wolfborn(Howl) 20:45, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
I'm not in a position to test this with Morwen either but I can guess the cause. It is clear from the game files that Morwen is not in the JobBlacksmithFaction which is one of the specialized merchant factions that the RelationshipMarriageSpouseHouseScript checks for when adding a spouse to the JobMiscFaction (the faction for general merchants). I play the Legendary Edition with no mods other than the unofficial patches and when I moved Balimund and Ghorza gra-Bagol to player houses (Balimund to Honeyside and Ghorza to, I think, Heljarchen Hall) they continued to sell blacksmith merchandise and use the correct vendor dialogue for blacksmiths. According to the Creation Kit whether the unofficial patches are enabled or not with the Legendary Edition both Balimund and Ghorza are added to the JobBlacksmithFaction through quest aliases in the dialogue quests of their respective cities. The Creation Kit data on the DLC2SkaalBlacksmith faction suggests that Morwen should sell blacksmith merchandise when she is near the forge in Skaal Village (I assume she has to be outdoors for this).
