Arana, leader of the Wayward Guardians in her faction's attire

The Wayward Guardians, originally known simply as the witch-rebels, are a group made up of the remnants of several Reachfolk clans which have been affected by the arrival of the Gray Host into the Reach.

They oppose Ard Caddach's reign, whose stubbornness and refusal in driving out the Gray Host out of their lands they feel is causing irreparable harm to the region. As a result, they have decided to take it upon themselves to fight the Gray Host in the hills, regardless of the risks.

After completing Blood of the Reach and discovering the deposit of enchanted silver ore, the rebels begin wearing armor and wielding weapons in their trademark style. This causes them to operate outside of Reachfolk's cultural norms, as they normally frown on making use of equipment and resources collected from the Dwemer's abandoned ruins.

Over the course of the zone's main questline, the Wayward Guardians officially gain their name and, by winning more and more of the people over to their side, their reputation as the defenders of the Reach.
