Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

After rescuing the three alliance leaders from Amenos, Lady Arabelle Davaux returns to Gonfalon Bay to investigate the final pieces of the Ascendant Order’s plot. She has received intelligence that the Ascendant Magus plans to meet with other members of the Order near Mistmouth Cave, and she asks you to join her there immediately.

At Mistmouth Cave, Lady Arabelle reveals a bold plan: infiltrate the Ascendant Order’s secret gathering inside Navire Dungeons by disguising yourself and Jakarn as members. She gives you a forged invitation and Ascendant Order attire. After donning the disguise, you and Jakarn proceed to the dungeon entrance, where a sentry stops you. Presenting the forged document works, and you're allowed inside.

Inside the Navire Dungeons, you walk into a secretive chamber where a group of masked Ascendant Order members are gathered, including the Ascendant Magus himself. As the meeting begins, the Magus detects something is off. Rather than raise the alarm immediately, he presents a challenge: identify him by name. You’re given several choices. Drawing from past interactions, letters, and suspicious behavior, you name Count Damard Dufort. Whether you choose the correct name or not initially, the story reveals him as the Magus either way. He teleports out using a powerful escape spell, and chaos erupts in the room.

After the failed confrontation, Lady Arabelle deduces that Duchess Elea Dufort, Damard’s wife, might be in danger or possess useful information. She sends you to The Silver Swan, the duchess’s private vessel moored in Gonfalon Bay. You board the ship and find the Duchess safe, though disturbed by recent events. She mentions that her husband gave a sealed letter to his steward, Hercian, before disappearing.

You begin searching the ship’s private quarters. In a locked drawer or nearby cabinet, you uncover Damard’s letter, which contains detailed plans and instructions related to the Ascendant Order’s future goals. This includes hints of a massive assault in the near future, and references to the next phase of their uprising.

With this incriminating evidence in hand, you return to Mandrake Manor and speak with Lady Arabelle once again. She’s disturbed by how far the conspiracy reaches and begins planning the final effort to stop the Ascendant Order’s leadership. The quest concludes with the stage set for the final showdown, which takes place in the next story quest, The Ascendant Storm.

This quest is a turning point in the High Isle storyline, where mystery and political intrigue give way to confirmed treachery and imminent war.

Notes[edit]

  • This quest confirms the true identity of the Ascendant Magus as Count Damard Dufort.
  • The Ascendant Order disguise is automatically removed after the dungeon sequence and cannot be kept.
  • The confrontation with the Magus includes a unique interaction where the player must deduce his identity—no matter what dialogue option is chosen, the correct identity is ultimately revealed.
  • The letter aboard the Silver Swan is a crucial item tying Count Damard to the Ascendant Order's plans.
  • This quest features a blend of infiltration, deduction, and investigation rather than heavy combat.
  • Leads directly into the final High Isle main story quest, The Ascendant Storm.
  • Stealth is not required in the dungeon despite the disguise—combat is minimal but may occur during escape or exploration.
  • The narrative arc intensifies political intrigue, particularly involving House Dufort and the stability of High Isle.

Bugs[edit]

  • Ascendant Order disguise may not equip automatically. ?
  • Dialogue option to accuse Count Damard may not appear. ?
  • Jakarn or dungeon guard may fail to spawn. ?
  • Quest may not update after finding the letter. ?
