Pythis the Betrayer

Pythis the Betrayer is a High Elf botanist and high-ranking member of the Psijic Order. He is Psijic Calis's mentor, having recently taken him on under the guise of their shared talents in botany, and is known to him as Master Pythis. He serves as the delve boss in the depths of Gloomreach.

In his journal, it is mentioned that he tends to be quiet; not unkind, but not overly warm, either. He kept their research mostly between the two of them, which Calis thought was because of how the Order would not take it seriously, but it is later revealed it was because he wanted to frame Calis for the tonal relic he took. Pythis had Calis transport the relic and blamed him for "breaking" it with the teleportation spell, but in actuality he had gone mad and sought to use the relic for his own power.

Dialogue

When combat is initiated he may say:

Pythis the Betrayer: "Did my foolish apprentice send you? How quaint."

As combat progresses, he will say the following:

Pythis the Betrayer: The artifact is mine! You cannot fathom its power!"

Pythis the Betrayer: You will not stop me! The artifact will make me all-powerful!"

Skills and Abilities

Pythis the Betrayer uses a mix of Frost Mage and Time Bomb Mage NPC abilities:

Ice Arrow

A basic ranged attack that does minor frost damage.

Ice Barrier

The enemy summons an Ice Barrier that absorbs projectiles fired at it until destroyed. The caster cannot be pulled if the wall stands between them and the enemy. The player should move so that there is a clear line of sight between themselves and the enemy.

Winter's Reach

The enemy unleashes an icy whirlwind in the direction it is facing. This whirlwind does moderate frost damage and roots all players that it hits. The root effect passes through block, but it can be escaped by roll dodging.

Void

The enemy summons a purple orb from the sky that explodes when it hits the ground splitting into three projectiles dealing moderate magic damage. This skill then sends out magic AoEs across the floor called Void Bursts. This attack can be interrupted to set the enemy off balance or simply avoided.

Void Burst

These AoEs are released after Void lands, the smaller AoEs deal minor magic damage.

Dampen Magic

Pythis the Betrayer casts a small damage shield for himself.

Relic Casting

Pythis the Betrayer spins its staff around himself. This ability is cast only two times in his fight: One right at the start and summons a Gloomspore Bear to fight for him, the second one when he is below 50% health and summons a Chaurus Reaper to fight for him.
