Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
Pass through any of the three gates at Hallin's Stand and the very first person you'll see is Ayma. You may also notice the hostile Seventh Legion soldiers occupying the city beyond. Speak to Ayma and she will angrily explain the situation:
- "We lie about like whipped dogs. Ufa drags his feet, waiting for aid. Can he not see that none comes?"
- Aid for what?
- "The Imperials hold our city. We were taken before our swords could leave the sheath. There's a traitor, my people whisper.
For now, we wait. Wait for the Covenant to send help and the Imperials to tire. But you don't seem like the waiting type." - And if I'm not?
- "I warn most against entering Hallin's Stand. But you might help us in our resistance. Go to the alchemist's shop in town. You'll find like-minded people there.
The Imperials won't let you pass in peace, but any of their blood spilt blesses the sand." - I'll check it out.
The alchemy shop she directs you to is on the south side of town. Depending on the gate you entered through, you may have to fight or sneak around a lot of soldiers who will attack on sight. There are, however, many baskets (labeled "Laundry") lying around that each contain a Hallin's Stand Seventh Legion Disguise, and you can also get it as a drop from the legionaries. This uniform will turn all soldiers except the sentries neutral towards you (neutrality is indicated by a yellow glow). The sentries, being a bit more alert than the others, will still be hostile on sight. Whether you take advantage of the disguise or not, make your way to The Sublime Elixir near the south gate.
Enter the shop through the front door (if you enter from the side door or the balcony, the quest won't update until you get close to the front). An Orc named Othulg will hail you, saying, "A new face! What's your business?" Speak to him.
- "We don't see a lot of travelers these days. What brought you here?"
- Ayma sent me.
- "Hm. You'll want to speak to Ufa, then. Too bad no one knows where he is. Even if we did, can't say he'd even want to talk to you, seeing as you're a stranger.
Yarah might see you though. She's upstairs, on the balcony." - I'll talk to her, then.
- "And don't think you can try anything. I'm not just here for my good looks, and Yarah is more than capable herself."
Head up the stairs behind him and to the balcony, where a pensive Yarah sits overlooking the city.
- "I don't think we've met. And I don't think we need to."
- I hear you're part of the resistance.
- "And I hear the Imperials have spies everywhere. So why would I admit to being someone they want to kill?
That said, I know one thing Imperial spies wouldn't do: arm their enemies." - With what?
- "Across the way is a guarded warehouse. If someone took weapons from there, it'd be a blow against the Seventh Legion. And I hear the stablehand knows the people who need such weapons.
Someone who did that, I could trust."
To prove your worth, head west and cross the street. There are six stockpiles of weapons in total, three outside and three inside the large warehouse. You need to steal from four of them. One Imperial soldier patrols the inside, with one more on either side of the building, plus one sentry on the east side.
Steal the weapons and make your way east to the stable right next to the south gate. Haytham, the stablehand, is unfriendly at first:
- "What do you want? Can't you see I'm doing my work? Or are you harassing me because I don't bow my head to the ground before the Imperials?"
- I have something for you.
- "Why would I want those weapons? I'm no friend to the resistance, or to the Imperials. I just want to work in peace."
- Yarah told me to bring them to you.
- "Is that so? Let me fix them for you, then.
There. No one will suspect you carrying sacks smelling of the stable. Ones who need these wait in and near the town square. If you're caught. we've never spoken." - Who am I looking for?
- "I name no names, but seek the poor near the town square. Ask if they've seen a cat with red fur, and there will be your answer."
The town square Haytham speaks of is called the Fountain Court Market on your map, and is right in the middle of Hallin's Stand. The people you seek are each simply labeled Peasant, and they are scattered around the area. The easiest one to spot is likely the one behind the stall in the northwest corner of the market, near Nasir, but there are a few others. Their dialogue varies, but when you speak to them and ask about the cat with red fur, they will mention that they have seen it, though not recently. It is lost, they say, and will ask if you bring tidings or something else.
When you give a peasant the weapons, a mysterious beggar will appear nearby, saying, "These old eyes see you! Come, come!" Follow him to a sheltered corner nearby.
- "You did not see me, did you? No one sees the poor, the sick. The oppressed!
You help these people of Hallin's Stand, but for what? You put yourself in harm's way, but why?" - My reasons are my own. Who are you?
- "One of the destitute, no more. I have nothing, except my eyes and ears. And I see Yarah wants to trust you, but she cannot. Not until now.
She will look for signs of treachery, and find none. But even that will not be enough." - Why doesn't she trust me?
- "Unimportant! But here is how she will.
She waits by the tavern, as she was spying on you. Go to her, clasp her hands, and tell her that the Red Asp lives."
The tavern is just north of the town square. Yarah is waiting in the attached storage area to the side of the building.
- "Ah, I was not expecting you. How did you … never mind. What news have you?"
- I've delivered all the weapons I was able to find.
- "One of our allies passed with a peculiar bag from the stables. It's good to know you were the one to supply it.
Well, then. I think it's best if we go our separate ways. Though you helped considerably, I can't take this risk again." - One more thing … I was told to tell you the red asp lives.
- "Wh … what? How do you know this?
The wind is truly at our backs! I've misjudged you. My apologies."
Complete the quest at this point to receive an average amount of leveled gold and XP, and the next quest in your mission to retake Hallin's Stand will be available: The Lion's Den.
Notes[edit]
- Though considered part of the Daggerfall Covenant's quest chain, this and the subsequent quests to liberate Hallin's Stand can be completed without any of the others, and though the Bangkorai story directs you to the city, you can skip it entirely.
- Despite telling Yarah you delivered all the weapons you could, only one weapon can be given prior before the next objective triggers. After giving that one weapon, the other three are removed from your quest items as well.
Quest Stages[edit]
Hallin's Burden | |
---|---|
Finishes Quest | Journal Entry |
It appears there's an underground resistance to the Imperial occupation of Hallin's Stand. If I'm interested in helping, I should look for like-minded people in the alchemy shop.
Objective: Find the Alchemy Shop
|
|
Upon entering the alchemist's shop, a large Orc called out to me. I should ask him what he knows about the resistance.
Objective: Talk to Othulg
|
|
The Orc said if I wanted to know more about the resistance, I should talk to a woman named Yarah. She's presently on the balcony of the alchemist's shop.
Objective: Talk to Yarah Upstairs in the Alchemist's Shop
|
|
Yarah refused to say anything outright until I've proved myself not an Imperial spy. She said there were weapons stashed in a nearby warehouse, and if I were to steal them from the Imperials guarding it, I could prove my loyalty.
Objective: Steal Weapons from the Imperial Supplies
|
|
I've stolen weapons from the Imperials in Hallin's Stand. I should bring them to the stablehand Yarah mentioned.
Objective: Bring the Stolen Weapons to the Stablehand
|
|
The stablehand said I could find people to give the weapons to in the town square. He disguised them as nondescript packages, so even if the Imperials stop me, they shouldn't be alerted to what I'm up to.
Objective: Pass the Weapons to a Supporter in the Town Square
|
|
After passing out weapons in the town square, a beggar grabbed my attention. I should see what he has to say.
Objective: Talk to the Beggar near the Town Square
|
|
The beggar gave me a cryptic message to tell Yarah, and also told me where I could find her again.
Objective: Take the Beggar's Message to Yarah
|
|
The beggar gave me a cryptic message to tell Yarah, and also told me where I could find her again. I should let her know her allies are armed.
Objective: Talk to Yarah outside the Tavern

- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
