Deathbringer Zara-Vyln

Deathbringer Zara-Vyln is a Deathbringer Xivilai who has a special animosity for Sir Cadwell. Her latest plot is attempting to steal his steed Honor in Western Solstice.

Quest-Related Events

After finding Squire Albec, he will ask for your help finding his would-be master's steed Honor. While tracking him, you find signs of Deathbringer activity and Squire Albec warns you that Honor would have started hunting the Daedra and says you need to find Honor before he goes berserk. Eventually you come across Zara-Vyln lambasting a scamp:

Deathbringer Zara-Vyln: "You let that silly guar get away? Find it! I want to send its bones to the knight."

<Deathbringer Zara-Vyln opens a portal and the two daedra depart.>

Squire Albec: "That Deathbringer knows about Honor! Let's make a plan."

Talking with Squire Albec, he explains that Zara-Vyln has a special hatred for Cadwell and is always trying to ruin his day. He realizes Zara-Vyln's latest plot is trying to steal Honor. He will hand you Honor's Fruit Blend Snack and tells you to put it on the ground to lure Honor out. Once you do so, you can wait for Honor to appear, however you were not the only one to be waiting for the steed:

<Honor appears and moves cautiously to the bowl. Zara-Vyln suddenly jumps out of a portal.>

Deathbringer Zara-Vyln: "There's the little beast. You're mine now!"

<Squire Albec runs in and jumps in the path of the portal trap.>

Squire Albec: "I'll save you, Honor!"

<Squire Albec is pulled into the portal and Zara-Vyln leaves.>

After talking to Honor for help, the bantam guar wordlessly leads you to a stone door in the northern side of the mountain. You can knock on it to see if anyone answers:

Deathbringer Zara-Vyln: "Go away! I hate interruptions when I'm tormenting a mortal."

Deathbringer Zara-Vyln: "Just ignore them. Whoever it is will go away eventually."

The door to the Hillside Refuge is locked, so Honor will help you by entering a hole in the wall and search for a way to unlock the door. While he is exploring the ruin, you will be able to overhear Zara-Vyln interrogating Albec:

Squire Albec: "You have this odd fixitation [sic] on Honor. Might I recommend a different hobby?"

Deathbringer Zara-Vyln: "I want Cadwell's creature, not you. How do I find it? How can I lure it in?"

Squire Albec: "I won't tell you anything, so you'll just let me go? Right?"

Deathbringer Zara-Vyln: "Sit tight, scrawny mortal. You'll serve as excellent bait."

Deathbringer Zara-Vyln

Once Honor has found the lever to unlock the door, you can enter the ruin and walk into the inner shrine. There, you will find Squire Albec tied up and Zara-Vyln stalking around. You will need to kill her to free Squire Albec.

Skills and Abilities

Quick Strike

A basic melee attack that deals low physical damage.

Heavy Attack

Deathbringer Zara-Vyln performs an overhead swing that causes a frost explosion, dealing moderate frost damage and roots the target. This can be blocked to stagger Deathbringer Zara-Vyln.

Hand of Flame

Deathbringer Zara-Vyln sends three fire lines towards its target, indicated by moving red circles, dealing moderate flame damage. The fires split off a second time shortly afterward. This can be interrupted to stagger Deathbringer Zara-Vyln.

Lightning Grasp

Deathbringer Zara-Vyln raises their hand and shoot a bolt of lightning which spawns numerous small pools of energy on the floor, indicated by small red circles, dealing low shock damage each.

Ice Cage

Deathbringer Zara-Vyln summons a ring of frost around themselves, indicated by a donut-shaped red circle, dealing continuous moderate frost damage and snaring targets.

Bugs

• Despite being referred to as a Dremora by Squire Albec and in your journal, Zara-Vyln is actually a Xivilai.
