Celence is one of the survivors of the unnatural storm which hit the temple, she has no idea why it happened there of all places:

"So much blood, so much pain. And on Meridia's holy ground. How could this have happened here?"

Once you have agreed to look for other survivors, she'll tell you:

"Priest Bavian was so brave. She led us to this cave and safety. But those noises outside … what did the storm bring with it, I wonder?"

After searching the temple with Bavian and returning to the cave, Celence's faith in Meridia has been shattered:

"There's no escape. Nowhere to run from the evil of these storms or the apathy of our god.
Meridia has abandoned us. I will never speak her name again!"
