Walkthrough[edit]
This quest starts either when you find a note in the bandit's hideout near where you enter Mephala's realm, or when you approach the door to the Great Pyramid. You'll also find a man named Paladin Aurel near the pyramid; he'll tell you that he was going to meet a bookseller in Arena to find a way out of the desert. Unfortunately, the bookseller is dead - attacked by bandits on the road to Arena (his skeleton and cart can be found to the west). You will, however, find a tablet with him; unfortunately (again), it's in another language - you need to find a translation key.
At some point, if you've found Morbelln's sword and done the quest Way Into the Pyramid, Drela will appear in Arena. Talk to her, and you'll get the quest The Way of the Dead. Along the way, you'll get the option to drop out - don't do it! The rewards are worth the effort, and you'll need the book you find later on.
Once you DO find the book, you can translate the tablet - it's a bunch of religious mumbo-jumbo, but you might notice that each section contains a number: 3, 3, 5, 1, 9. The door to the pyramid requires a number combination. Coincidence? Go the pyramid and input the code. Make your way through the pyramid, recover the Pharaoh's heart, take Tyrfing's Hilt, and then you can leave (the envoy who appears is invincible, so don't bother fighting it - just flee).
Now you've pissed off Mephala. He's covered the entire realm with a sandstorm, and water will no longer refresh you. Good thing you grabbed that chalice from the Temple of the Dead, right? Follow the map you found to the tower and look around for a giant spider. Kill it, free the Argonian inside, and get the key to the Mysterious Passages. Once you get through there, you'll be sent back to Cyrodiil and this quest will end.
Journal Entries[edit]
Sword Search (ODDHQ03Desert) | ||
---|---|---|
Stage | Finishes Quest | Journal Entry |
10 | I found a note in a bandit hideout in the desert; the note speaks of a talking sword that gives supposedly great power. Is that the sword that Ocato spoke of? As he put it - Tyrfing? The note's author was of the opinion that the sword should be in the Great Pyramid. | |
20 | I found the entrance to a pyramid in Mephala's desert, but it is closed. Maybe I'll find clues somewhere nearby on how I can open it. | |
30 | The paladin told me about a bookseller who supposedly knows how to escape from the desert. Maybe he could also tell me how to get to the sword, with which Ocato wants to make me Emperor. Tyrfing. The paladin wanted to meet at the Arena, but apparently he has not yet surfaced. | |
35 | I found the book dealer who may know how can I get the sword. Unfortunately, he is dead. Presumably he was attacked on the way to the Arena, where he was to meet with the paladin. Maybe he has something with him that will help me? | |
40 | A mysterious tablet. Unfortunately, it is written in Daedric letters. I need a translation key or a connoisseur who would be willing to help me. Maybe a bookseller? But it seems like no one in Mephalas realm is particularly interested in books. Not even this poor bookseller was safe from the dangers of the desert here. And I have not yet seen a bookstore. | |
50 | A translation key! Thank Mephala! Now I can translate the mysterious tablet. Perhaps it is indeed something useful? | |
60 | I walked through the front door of the pyramid and am now in the interior of the mighty edifice. It's pitch dark here; hopefully I have a couple of torches. | |
70 | I didn't find a complete sword in the pharaoh's treasury - only the hilt was there. But I suspect that this is the sword mentioned in the prophecy and that Ocato seeks so fervently. | |
80 | I escaped Mephala's invincible guardian. | |
90 | Mephala is angry. The Daedra is furious! He didn't seem to care that I freed the pharaoh, but the theft of the hilt was probably a mistake. The Daedra showed me his power and darkened the sky. His servants will hunt me down and his water will not quench my thirst anymore. So either I stay here and wait for my death, or I make tracks as soon as possible. I should follow the map I have just found. | |
95 | A knight of the Order of the Dragon! What's he doing here? | |
100 | Finally, I'm back! Unfortunately, I only have the hilt to this cursed sword. Where by Mephala are my knights? We need to find the rest of Tyrfing to make the prophecy come true. |
- Notes
- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
- If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
- It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering
setstage ODDHQ03Desert stage
, wherestage
is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
