The ingredient Scales is primarily collected from dead Slaughterfish.

Ingredients

4 guaranteed samples can be found in the following locations (magenta crosses on map):

• 1 sample is in Honmund's House in Bruma
• 1 sample is in Brotch Calus' House in Bruma
• 1 sample is in Howling Cave Lower Galleries
• 1 sample is in Veyond Sea of Darkness

It can also be found randomly in the inventories of alchemy vendors, starting at level 2.

Shivering Isles adds three additional samples, in the following locations:

• 2 samples are outside in Crucible
• 1 sample is in Tove the Unrestful's House Upstairs in Bliss

Creatures

Scales come from standard Slaughterfish and Giant Slaughterfish (but not from Rumare Slaughterfish, which yield Rumare Slaughterfish Scales instead). In addition, Bitterfish Goblins always carry Scales (however, most of these goblins do not respawn).

Slaughterfish are commonly encountered underwater, and may appear at any level. Outdoors, various deep bodies of water have locations where slaughterfish may randomly spawn. Also, most deep pools of water inside dungeons contain slaughterfish. Places where respawning slaughterfish are guaranteed to appear include (red circles on map):

• 7 in Fort Magia
• 5 in Quickwater Cave
• 5 in Silorn
• 5 in The South East Tunnel
