Archmage Voa was the Archmage of the Stros M'Kai Mages Guild during the reign of Prince A'tor of Hammerfell. After Voa's death, he was succeeded by Archmage Jaganvir, who was considered an unworthy successor by local guild members.[1]

As chief advisor to the prince and a loyal Crown,[1] he served aboard the flagship during the Battle of Hunding Bay in 2E 864. When the prince was mortally struck by an arrow, Voa saved his life in two pieces by placing his body in a stasis field and transferring his soul into a soul gem. Voa used his magical ring to accomplish these feats. He died shortly afterward when the dragon Nafaalilargus burned the flagship.[2]

The prince's body was saved by the Restless League and kept in secret storage in Stros M'Kai's temple of Arkay under the protection of the Brothers of Arkay.[3] Due to some trick of undercurrent in the wake of the battle, Voa's body and ring ended up in the goblin caverns below Stros M'Kai.[4] Cyrus the Redguard found the cavern while trying to track down Kithral, an acolyte at the temple of Arkay, who theorized the location of Voa's final resting place. Cyrus traversed the caverns to locate the Archmage's ring and killed the massive ogre guarding it.[5]

The soul gem containing A'tor's soul would end up in the hands of the Sload necromancer N'Gasta, via Iszara, but eventually was reclaimed by Cyrus. With Voa's ring and A'tor's soul gem, Cyrus brought the Yokudan witchmother Saban to the temple of Arkay to restore the prince to life. As fate would have it, the soul transferred to the prince's sword, becoming the Soul Sword. Despite this failure, Cyrus rallied the Restless League to topple the Empire's military occupation of the island.[6]

Notes[edit]

  • During his tenure as Archmage, Voa used his close relationship with A'tor to ensure the Mages Guild had a monopoly on sales of all magical items, to the detriment of local business owners.[7]
  • Voa's ring bore the symbol of the Crowns upon it.[8]
