A lodestone

Lodestones are metals with strong magnetic energy. They can attract dust, debris, and metals like iron.[1][2][3] They are commonly used for navigation. Generally, they are made into compasses for sea travel.[4][5] Lodestones can also manipulate electricity and its associated magic. The Maormer, who often travel the sea and use storm magic, use lodestones for several functions.[6][7] But lodestones can also have magical properties. Enchanted lodestones can focus magicka over a distance and usually come in pairs to form sympathetic links between them. They can also be focused for navigation spells[8] and through the links, trace each other's location.[9] Lodestones are also used in alchemy and can enhance one's jumping abilities.[10]

The All Flags Navy used enchanted lodestones to navigate to the Sea of Pearls and keep numerous ships in formation and on course.[11] The druids of the Firesong Circle create rough-hewn lodestone compasses that always point to their home island, Y'ffelon.[12]

The Tarnished of Slag Town, the slums in the Brass Fortress use artificial lodestones to find metal scraps and metallic threads to make anything from clothing and air filters.[13]

Storm Atronachs can drop lodestones crackling with lightning. Adventurers tend to collect them as trophies.[14] Aetheric Lodestones are extremely rare and come in the form of a perfectly round orb threaded with Aetherium.[1]
