Lore:Kinhouse
Kinhouses are a feature within the elven societies of the Dunmer,[1][2] and the Altmer.[3][4][5] Definitionally, the term kinhouse can be used in place of the terms 'clan' or 'house' when referring to a noble elven political faction or family (sometimes called a "Kinship").[6][UOL 1] A kinhouse may also refer to the central clan building(s) of an elven clan, whether the kinhouse is used for residence, administration, gathering place, or some mixture of the three.[4][7][2][8][5] The term kinhouse can simultaneously refer to both the building and the family that resides within it.[9]
Among the Dunmer, ranks within the kinhouses are often displayed through tassels hung from clothing, indicating a Dark Elf's rank within their particular kinhouse.[10] Kinhouse colognes are spiced perfumes created by the alchemists of House Indoril, each featuring unique fragrances specific to each house.[11]
Among the Altmer, the leaders of Kinhouses are referred to as Kinlords and Kinladies,[12][UOL 1] with some being designated as High Kinlords and High Kinladies.[13]
Notes[edit]
- During the development of base game ESO, Summerset Isle was going to be included as a zone called Varyllis, which was meant to contain the southlands of the isle, from Alinor to Dusk. That zone was meant to feature a number of Altmeri noble kinhouses across its landscape, each headed by a kinlord or kinlady.[UOL 1]
