More then just bug fixes[edit]
I am under the impression that DFQFIX contains more then just bug fixes for daggerfall, I seem to gain a few new quests that are not mentioned on uesp such as getting rid of a daedroth at a nobles house for knights order, helping mannimarco to get a artifacts for nobles, and placing a kidnapped child somewhere else for thieves guild. I also found out that I cannot do any quests that are higher then "Still more Troubles with orcs" for Knight Orders which requires 40 reputation while I have above 75 reputation. So could someone please check if this file changes just more then quests. --Umbacano 19:30, 8 January 2009 (EST)
- DFQFIX contains nothing but bug-fixes for quests of the original game and the CompUSA Special Edition Patch, plus two special start-up files (STARTFIX and STARTFIN), that were only used under certain circumstances in older versions of DFQFIX. If one takes a look into the zip file, one will only see quest-files that are listed on this page. If you one has installed some additional quests, for example from the QUESTPAK file, one will have these quests also. But once again DFQFIX contains nothing but quest-fixes for the original Daggerfall game and its only official "add-on".--PLRDLF 15:29, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
- So could it be possible that QUESTPAK contains files that change the gameplay system (reputation & quests specifically)? Because I cant get any quests from knight orders other then the orc quests and the custom ones, the quest giver does not give me any higher ranked quests regardless of reputation.

- Daggerfall has a funny way how it handles arrays, for example inventories or the player's spellbook. Everytime one reloads a game, the entries of an inventory e.g. the spells in the spellbook are turned bottom-up except for the very first item in an inventory or the very first spell in the spellbook. This bottom-up turning also happens with quests, since normally quests are picked from low reputation to high reputation. Very often this picking stops around medium reputation. When a game is reloaded, the quests are picked from high reputation to low reputation. If one bugs the quesgiver long enough and he doesn't give the quests for higher reputation, reload the game and try it again. This "bottom-up feature" does not happen everytime a game is reloaded, but in most cases it does.--PLRDLF 15:17, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
(←) One issue circulating within the ES community should also be clarified at this point. Maybe the original game did have many serous bugs. However the latest official patch 2.13 fixes almost all of them. The nickname "Buggerfall" isn't appropriated for a game patched to v2.13 anymore. Only one major Main-Quest breaking bug remains, but it can be avoided if one knows how. Under normal circumstances the Main Quest can be played through without any major troubles, provided the latest patch is used.
Missing quest rewards, that aren't necessary for the plot or broken side quests are another matter though, but to fix all these issues, that aren't caused by the game-engine itself, DFQFIX was created.
- I moved these paragraphs from the Project page beause they are the wrong tone for an encylopedia-type article. "Issues circulating in the ES community", "Maybe the original game", "Buggerfall". None of these belong in this type of article. --Brf 00:40, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
"A mix-up" still broken[edit]
The quest follows through as it should, all until the witness hands me the note: it instructs me to go to my character's house (i.e. "Jacques's house"). What on Earth am I supposed to do in that situation, as my character does not own a house yet?? (the town NPCs also tell me to go to my nonexistent house). 174.89.243.49 07:22, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
- This is actually a bug in the game-engine, not in the quest. As I've already written in the notes of another quest, the game-engine has very often problems if a quest uses more than two houses in the same city. One would think with the vast amount of buildings in a big city this would be no problem, but oh well. In this case one of the locations can not be allocated, meaning it will not exist in the quest and this missing location is translated as "player's character's name house" in the quest-text and dialog menu. I assume Jacques is the name of your character. This is one of a couple of quests that are especially prone to this bug because in this quest are many locations. Missing Person Case is another quest which is prone to this bug. There is nothing that can be done about this except to reload a previous save game.--PLRDLF 22:03, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
Bug-list or todo list[edit]
PLRDLF, thank you for your work. Daggerfall is much more pleasure with your patches. Most of the important bugs are clear, thanks to you. But, as I understand, goal of this project is get rid of all bugs in quest files. Is there place where we can document remaining bugs, so it can be fixed in future? I think it would be useful for current Daggerfall players, and future DaggerXL ones. IE, I just run into bug that's been documented in The Exterminator (a0c00y07) (But you will get no notification if this is accomplished, so you must keep track of your kills. Report back to your employer when you are sure the building is clean enough.) I finished quest, received reward, but quest didn't finish (it is still in my log). I don't know is it a engine bug or quest file. I found few more strange things during my play-through, but I didn't write it down. So some bug-tracker or, at least, forum topic would be great. - First thanks and second there is a theory in computer science saying, it's impossible to get rid of all bugs a program contains, but this sounds like an interesting idea on th other side. To be honest I've discovered all bugs corrected by DFQFIX on my own and beside reading somr comments in the various forums from time to time I also had to find bugs in DFQFIX on my own as well. The major question is, who would be interested and beside almost all major bugs have apparently been eliminated. What's left seems to be mostly tweaking and cosmetic corrections. There are not that much people around that play these sort of games and even the contributions for Daggerfall on this side are done by only a few people, mostly my person.
Regarding the issue with quest a0c00y07, it's not a bug but done on purpose. There are a couple of quest that don't end immediately when you report back, but have a small time-frame ranging from a couple of in-game minutes to a whole day. Therefore quest related persons and journal entries remain visible until the quest is truly terminated.--PLRDLF (talk) 23:14, 3 September 2012 (EDT)

Still no fame from King of Worms?[edit]
I just handed the Totem to Mannimarco and he said stuff about enjoying the worldly fame I was supposed to have just received. I checked my save game using DFHACK before and after handing him the Totem and the reputations are the same for all factions. I checked the quest file with WinQEdit and it seems to indicate that I should have gotten my reward. 130.184.79.91 19:36, 31 May 2013 (GMT)
- I've tested all released patches by myself and this worked for me since v3.0 were it was added. If you have installed the latest version and it still doesn't work, I can't tell why it doesn't work either.--PLRDLF (talk) 04:18, 2 June 2013 (GMT)
- It could be that I applied the patch after starting my character (though I was pretty far from the totem quest). I wouldn't think that the game actually saves the quests in the save folder, but that might have something to do with it. 130.184.79.91 16:17, 3 June 2013 (GMT)
Glitchy dialogue option in Eastwick's mage guild[edit]
I noticed a weird dialogue option on an NPC in a mage's guild in Eastwick (Daggerfall). The mage appears as a red-robed NPC reading a flying book. He has the usual "Talk", "Join Guild" options, but the 3rd option is written in some cryptic way, like random letters/numbers i.ex. QsQQPPQRN. If I choose
that option he simply answers with "I can only offer my services for members" although I'm already a member of the mage's guild. This glitch is repeatable. If I load another character's savestate and travel to Eastwick I get the same glitchy dialogue option (but often with other random letters/numbers).
I installed Daggerfall using Ancestral Ghost's DaggerSetup with all install options chosen.
