Ila the Upright, an Imperial citizen, is the stablemaster at the Bruma Stables. She will sell you a paint horse for 3000 gold and will ask for your help to locate a missing horse. She also owes Razzada the Resplendent for some "enchanted horse hay" she bought, and the enchanter will task you with collecting his debts.
Ila will sleep from midnight to 7am in the main building, eat a quick breakfast until 8am, and then spend the next ten hours working around the stables, offering her services as a hostler. At 6pm she will call it a day and head to the Jerall View Inn for some food and drink, heading back to the stables at 10pm. The only break from this schedule is on weekends, when she will head over to A Cut Above at 8am and spend two hours chatting to her business partner, Fadel.
Ila wears common clothes and boots, and carries a pitchfork, the key to the stables and a random selection of gold, lockpicks, rings, food and drink.

Dialogue[edit]
Upon meeting her, Ila will boast:
- "Paint horses for sale!"
- "I sell the finest horses in Bruma. Well, the only horses in Bruma, but nevertheless the finest."
- "I have paint horses for sale, if you want one."
- What breed of horse do you sell?
- "I sell paint horses. They're leaner and more agile than the hulking horses you'll find across the border in Skyrim. Admittedly there are "better" breeds of horses elsewhere in Cyrodiil, but none of them come as cheaply as mine."
- So your horses are faster than ones I could find in Skyrim?
- "Faster, and leaner, indeed. Might not be able to withstand quite as many sword blows, mind you, but who cares about that, eh. Unless you tend to use your horse as some sort of a fighting partner."
If you would like to proceed with a sale, she will be delighted:
- I'd like to buy a paint horse.
- "Sure thing. Got one all ready, if you have the coin."
- Deal. (3000 gold)
- "Great! Got her all saddled up for you, out in the yard. Take good care of her."
- "Err, you don't have enough coin. My horses may come cheap, but they don't come free." (not enough gold)
- No, thanks.
- "Eh, your gold, your choice."
Quest-Related Dialogue[edit]
Horse, off course[edit]
Asking her about any issues she's been facing will start the Horse, off course quest:
- Do you get a lot of problems at the stable?
- "Life as a stablemaster isn't so bad. It can be downright rewarding sometimes. Though, and I'm embarrassed to admit this, but... well, we did lose a horse a few weeks ago. The owner's incredibly upset, as you can imagine. According to a few people nearby, it galloped off to the north, but I don't know where it could have gone to or why. Sadly, I haven't had the time to look into it either."
- Err, good luck with that.
- "Ha! Let's hope it just wanders back here, eh?"
- I could look for the horse.
- "Believe me, traveler, if you'd do that for me I'd be very grateful. Like I said, it went off to the north. I'd start there."
Sure enough, if you head north from the stables you will eventually come across a small encampment with two bay horses, a chestnut horse and a mysterious Bosmer drinking at a table. Once you've dispatched him and his two fellow horse thieves, you can return to Ila to report back on your success and claim your reward:
- I found the missing horse.
- "Oh? Where was it? What happened to it?"
- It was north, as you predicted. Stolen by some horse thieves.
- "Fantastic news. So it's still alive? I'll go get it as soon as I can. Thank you very much for your help, traveler. Here, have this coin as a token of my appreciation."
Payments for Razzada[edit]
After having been tasked by Razzada the Resplendent to collect dues from various customers, you can pay Ila a visit to obtain the cash. She will grumble a bit, but eventually pay up:
- I'm here to collect payment for Razzada.
- "Ah, yes. The "enchanted horse hay" he sold me. Pfft! What a joke! The only thing magical about the hay was that it caught on fire. Very easily. My horses clippity-clop over it and boom, it goes up in smoke. Nearly burnt down my stable!"
- But what about the coin?
- "Well, I managed to get some use out of it as a way of getting rid of pests... pretty fun to use, too... but he did still swindle me. Here, take the coin back to Razzada. But tell him to check that his "enchanted items" actually do what they say they do next time."
