Will killing him affect the College's quests?[edit]

How closely is he related to the Winterhold College quest line? After I had completed the dwemer puzzle he said he'd tell the Council in Cyrodiil about the Eye of Magnus. At that point he wasn't essential so I killed him, will it affect the quest line? 80.66.241.131 16:57, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

No, it will not — Unsigned comment by 75.84.209.125 (talk) at 06:17 on 9 December 2011

Redguard?[edit]

I'm pretty sure Paratus is a redguard. Can someone verify this? — Unsigned comment by 75.84.209.125 (talk) at 06:17 on 9 December 2011

The race info is dubious on a lot of pages. Paratus is a Imperial, Ulfr the Blind is a Dremora, Meridia is an Altmer, Sheogorath is a Breton, the list goes on and on. But it all ostensibly came from the game data, so that's the story we're sticking with for now. Minor Edits 06:30, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

Only Living Synod?[edit]

Wouldn't Gavros Plinius be considered another living member of the Synod, even if he died shortly after being encountered? Arycon 17:44, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

No, because by the time you meet Paratus, Gavros has died. I don't know if it's possible to met Paratus otherwise. — Unsigned comment by 124.148.234.45 (talk) at 14:29 on 14 August 2012

Is he really essential?[edit]

I noticed that the box that answers if an NPC is essential or not is marked as yes on the article. However, I have killed him on the PC without using the console, and also on the Xbox. Therefore, i shall change his essential status to no unless someone else can verify otherwise. Voraxith 04:27, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

He is essential to the quest in which he is encountered. He has to let you in to his chamber, otherwise you cannot continue the quest, and he must do some scripted interpreting and explaining in order for the quest to advance to the dwemer puzzle. However, he is one of several essential NPCs who can be killed before their related quest is completed. Odd (and uncommon) situation, but he is indeed essential. -Arycon 05:18, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
The game's definition of essential is that the NPC cannot be killed. He can be killed. So while he is important to completing a quest, he is not essential. I tested this both on PC and Xbox, both before and after the related quest was complete. He dies when I attack him. However, I will leave your revision alone until others chime in on this. I will say that having him tagged as Essential on the article is misleading, as he does not match the actual game's definition of essential.Voraxith 05:40, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
I just tried killing him without having the quest Revealing the Unseen. He just did go in the crouching position after no health was left and stood up after some time again. I repeated that twice in a row, so I guess he really is essential before the quest. --Alfwyn 14:39, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Latin[edit]

The note at the end of the page is bang on, but they're missing half of the pun. His full name is Paratus Decim(i)us -- as in, "Readiness, Ten Percent". --173.180.86.252 05:52, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

That seems like a good addition to the note to me. Feel free to add it to the page. Most pages don't restrict IP edits (although we certainly encourage you to join if you plan to edit regularly). Robin Hood  (talk) 18:50, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

Does he really die?[edit]

Is it really true that he dies shortly after his quest? I met Paratus in Mzulft still wandering around the ruins while I was searching for a Dwemer convector while doing the Arniel's Endeavor Quest, and the only thing he had to say was “Hey, watch where you’re waving that fire around“ or words to that effect, because I had Arniel's Convection spell activated in my hand at the time I approached him! --Grimbold (talk) 03:54, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

You've misread it. It is Gavros Plinius who dies. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 12:18, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
